Origin as Launcher for ME3 - Explanation Requested

I tried to re-download the game from Origin but some error occurred. I 'talked' with Live Chat for this issue, and in the process, I found out that we are being FORCED to use Origin as our ME3 game launcher. This made me p***d because I do not want to have to go through another program just to launch a game. I expect that in MMORPG games like WoW and SWKOTOR but not a multi-platform (mainly single-player) game. That's one thing I liked about playing ME2 on my laptop and PC. I could launch ME2 without having to go through Origin.
IF we have to go through Origin to play ME3, I ask you BioWare, why do you even have the option for shortcuts or pinning to menu for ME3? How do you expect people to be able to play offline?
I personally do not care for these types of hassles (read being forced to use another program) for these types of games. I bought the product, and as an end-user licensee, I should be able to play ME3 in any system I have the game installed in any manner I like, online or offline.
I respectfully ask you, what is the reason behind all this? Why are we being forced to use Origin to launch the game I paid for? I just want to understand. You at BioWare should be able to sympathize with my and other fans with similar feelings. I'm pretty sure you would end up with a bad taste in your mouth if you had to go through this for one of your new favorite PC games.

It seems that all of this is being done as anti-piracy measures, but it seems it's going too far. Pretty soon, we are going to have to provide DNA samples every time we want to launch the game. Exaggeration of course, but it feels that way. I mean the discs themselves already have a code check, e.g., disc must be in the drive, before you can play (at least for ME2).

I will not be buying from EA until this pathetic "get on the steam wagon" debacle is over.
A release game should not be on a Beta program, who thought this would work well?

I never had this problem with any previous BioWare game, and this is the first to require Origin in order to play it. I have no idea if the two things are connected, but I am about ready to just do everything to return my game.
In short, I hear you OP.

Same here. I bought the game, downloaded it, installed it, and Origin simply won't launch the game.AK3Hiker wrote...
Agreed, but I can't even get mine to launch.
I've tried everything, including reinstalling both Origin and ME3.

I got the collectors edition for both pc and xbox. I understand xbox needing the internet connection because of windows live on it but pc I don't understand it. Yesterday for me was a bit annoying for when I was playing the pc game. My game crashed when I lost internet connection in the middle of a mission. I tried restarting the game to play offline and I couldn't. Once the internet came up, origins was still running and connected because I never exited the origins program. I found that if you lost connection and don't restart origins, you can't log into bioware. I was not able to play since my dlc was not authorized. I feel like I am playing wow or another online game that without internet I can't play it and the is sorta of annoying that if I closed my laptop I have to exit origins then go through the whole process again to get it running so I can log into bioware and be able to play the game.
This is the kind of crap that I am very much against. The only aspect of this game, as far as I can see, that REQUIRES an internet connection at all would be for multiplayer. Like I mentioned, this is mainly a single-player game that the fans like to enjoy online or offline. This Origin crap is really shackling the enjoyment of these types of games.
I also do not see the logic of having to authenticate the bonus materials every single time. Why do we even have physical copies of ME3, pre-order, play demos for bonus items, buy collector's editions etc. if we can't have/access to them offline? This seems to be a sure way of ostricizing a large demographic of paying customers.

-.- Got my copy today in the mail only to have it not install the moment I put in the disc. Then, I spent a good half hour scrounging the forums for how to install the damned game because the little pamphlet didn't tell me jack. Why do I have to go through a bunch of damned hoops when I paid $90 for this thing. And I also learned that you have to be constantly online to play this? AHHH WTF.
Hope you don't have the same issue I have when you finally get the game working then. Constant lock ups/not responding problems every few minutes, and lasts for a couple of seconds before returning completely to normal. Tried playing a couple of other games on my computer, including ME2, no problem. ME3? Smooth until it locks up and I have to tweedle my thumbs for a few seconds waiting for it to unfreeze.
Meanwhile, it seems other people are having heavy crashing issues. Forgive me if I am a little disgruntled.

I was under the assumption that I would actually be able to start up the game. The demo ran fine, but now that they have my money, I can't even start ME3.Yuoaman wrote...
They announced this in January, you had two months to decide not to get the game if you found the idea distasteful.
Sorry for making the assumption that I was paying for a product, not just donating money to EA and BioWare. My bad.

This seems like the scene from 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' where the Vorgons yelled "Well you knew about this for over 50 years! The paperwork was filed (on some other planet)..."
... just before they blew up Earth... (apologies for the nerd moment)
- aaand for those who like/love the Mass Effect series, how many would opt out of getting ME3? To them, this seeming facade of a choice is really no choice at all. Wouldn't you agree?

I'm willing to wait until I can play ME3 w/o origin before I let EA keep my money.

Well, it runs amazingly so far. Other than this glitch where Shephard bends his arm the other way and commences to hump what ever console he's interfacing with.
