While it would have been loads better to make an actual 3D model of her face, I can understand why they would use a stock image if they -only- planned to show that one picture of her face by design (and not out of laziness).
Fun fact: Twitter's mascot is based off of a $6 royalty free stock photo

It's pretty lazy and it's not because there's no 3D model. That photoshop looks like it was done in about 10 minutes; check the hand. They just cut it in half lol.

I don't mind that they used a stock image. I do mind how badly that hand is photoshopped.
I, like everyone else, would have preferred seeing a unique character model. It's entirely within the realm of possibility that they tried to do that, but it didn't work out for one reason or another (the helmet may have forced really ugly proportions). So they just did this with little time left.

It's not like Shepard's existence is based on pictures of some random Dutch guy or anything.
It's a simple picture for simple purposes, and the general appearance (since they edited it) fits for a quarian. I don't see what the big deal over this is.

The big deal is that it's lazy as hell. They couldn't be arsed to make a unique design in a AAA game that every reviewer seems to think is the best thing since sliced bread.

Quarians are more credible as looking human than the Asari. Since they're Dextro, they fulfill the role of an evolutionary "mirror image."
Asari are just.........I don't know.
