Was doing the Urn quest, and came against an opponent mage, who immediately popped up a anti-magic shield.
It seemed that he could maintain this almost indefinately (would pop up another after the current one faded, which I can't do due to cool downs).
I am a mage soloing him, and found I died a few times on him (and the other mobs with him) from the mana clash spell he would cast on me.

I think I tried dispel magic on him, but it seemed to fail...

1)  Is the anti-magic shield resistant to dispel magic (or did I just get unlucky)?

2)  Would life ward protect my mage from being one shotted with Mana Clash?

3)  Is there any other way to deal effectively with an anti-magic shield using a mage? ( I know that staff damage penetrates)

Tough....tough...

1) Have you tried confronting him while you are low on mana? Might prevent being one-shotted..
2) Try using Dispel Magic on him lots, maybe that will help and  work one time
3) Deal with the adds and then slowly kill him by just stabbing him? Might take ages, tough....
4) Cast a spell indirectly into the room he is in? (never tried that, but I know it works in other games)

All in all, I make this out to be a very tough fight....Good Luck xD 
Also, what kind of other spells do you have that you could use?

Hmm yeah I have dumped my mana for it which has saved my toon.

Yeah I think in the end I wore him down with my staff lol

I noticed that fireball or AoE spells didn't go through the anti-magic field either.
