I know there are a billion or so of these now, but I can't help it! I'm completely giddy after playing the first three missions or so: thank you so much for all of your hard work, Bioware! This game is AMAZING.
~ I love the dense feel that two games worth of background has given this game. I can't imagine the complexity involved in accounting for all of the many decisions every individual player might make. So many little subtle touches already that are connected to MY Shepard's journey are just fantastic. In ME2, it was exciting and fun. But in ME3 it feels like an even richer ecxperience.
~ The subtelty of the characters and their relationships. I completely feel the frienship my Shepard has with Liara, and the tension and uncertainty between Shepard and Kaidan...even in the moments with no dialogue whatsoever. I cannot wait to interact with the other squad members!
~ Having just played ME2 DLC yesterday, I can say with certainty that while the combat in ME3 is a harder difficulty, it still works smoother and more effectively. And I say this as an RPGer who does not play shooters, and frankly, is a not the best at playing combat!
~ The game is pretty. MUCH prettier than ME2, especially in the textures and details of character's faces. I keep catching myself admiring the pattern and color of Liara's skin.
~ The little touches that say this crew has been through a lot - I can't go into more without spoilers, but I've already gotten choked up just walking around the Normandy. I fully expect this game to make me cry more than once.
For those that still wonder about such things:
~ I had no difficulty importing my save game. I did make a couple of small adjustments to my ME2 Shepard's appearance once imported, but that was just because I wanted a slightly different hair style. I figure Shepard changes a bit as time has marched on.
~ I LOVE that we start with the same abilties we had at the end of ME2 (or darn close to it, if I recall my last save correctly!)
~ I totally get how multiplayer works smoothly alongside the single player campaign, and how it would work to avoid it altogether. But mutliplayer is really just bonus fun for me! I'm playing it just because I'm enjoying it, not for how it will "help" my campaign. That said, it TOTALLY sucks to go from lvl 20 in the demo, to lvl 1 with literally no points but one to start multiplayer with! Only had to suffer for one map, but man, that is a harsh transition, especially since the combat feels like the difficulty has been tweaked to be harder than the demo. The Reapers as enemies feel like a Silver map, even on Bronze.
Um, I'm sure there's more, but that's it for impression right now.
Another First Impressions/Review Thread (no spoilers, obviously)
