Ok, people on both sides: let's please recognize that all textures in the game aren't the same resolution - there are some good ones and some bad ones.  For the most part, Bioware prioritizes texture resolution where it makes the most sense.  Clothing textures for incidental characters in the Mass Effect games have always been pretty terrible. I mean in ME1 for example, the main character armors all look decent, but then you have stuff like Dr. Chakwas uniform which looks like it's from an N64 game (note that I said ME1, she's much improved in ME2)

SlappyHam posted a cherry picked screenshot that shows a legitimately low res texture. There's nothing wrong with his PC and I'm sure that specific character would look the same on all of your PCs, it's just that you don't notice it, because it's a bit character who has only a few moments of screen time.

Is it something a picky criticism, that in practical reality doesn't detract from the game that much - yes. Is "Get a better computer" is an flippant, unhelpful response to that criticism - absolutely.

Why is anyone surprised that a game made with a console-first mentality has crappy textures compared to modern games made with a PC-first mentality?

IMO the game looks very good even though it looks like a 5 year old game from a purely technical standpoint. The design and art direction are absolutely top notch amazing.

Maybe they spent time making an awesome game instead of the most beautiful game ever. What a stupid thing to complain about. I have no complaints about how my game looks, and the coop is amazing. I'd rather have a fun MP than the most beautiful game on the market. No one sees it but you.

Game assets are usually made in very high res and then scaled down for user consumption anyway.  No reason why we should get textures too scaled down for PC's.  Just hope they release a high-res pack like Skyrim :) Skyrim's high-res pack was really awesome.

It seems that people just pass up what Mr.Priestly says.
He threatens you all a ban and you still go on about it something that is really ridiculous?

I mean seriously, I laugh when people go at it and make popcorn and make smart comments but jesus you would think when a mod is threatening a ban people would keep it civil.

But I guess BSN doesn't like civil things.

Some computers can give so much detail with the high graphic cards that you see more then intended.
So.. the guy has a red face in a way.. so? Whats the problem? Is he a LI? No. Is he a sqaddie? No. Deal wid it.

EDIT: And also, I play on Xbox. Do the graphic look bad and my eyes glitch on there sometimes? Yea. So you people have nothing to complain about with a little red on the face.

I think he was refering to the hand in the picture not the face.

I have a single 580 in case anyone is wondering about my pics. The game looks better than average from a distance and the quality decreases the closer you get to things.

But still nowhere near the worst textures I've ever seen.

Everything WAS civil after his post. No one cussed at each other or name called after he posted about it. Arguing isn't always a hostile thing.

Doesn't matter if it was red face guy or the hand or a random person kicking someone in a picture.

I think texture issues are a minor issue at most. I am far more concerned with auto dialogue, lack of choices, ending people seem to be claiming are not well done and this talk of timed quests without telling you which are timed.

Textures are secondary to all those and can be easily resolved at a later date with possible texture packs or mods, while those elements cannot. I will state I do not have the game yet but I am concerned greatly by those elements by what is being said on here especially auto dialogue and lack of dialogue choices.

Don't get hissy with me, I merely pointed out what you mentioned was not what he was referring to.

Yeah those would be more important concerns. I can't really comment on them though since I've only played for a couple of hours. I've been hooked on the co-op. But you're right, textures can be fixed and that stuff can't. I'm having fun though so that's all that matters.

The texture quality is highly variant. Clothing texture and some environment texture is straight up garbage, other times it can be fine.

I can nit-pick Bioware for many things but the game looks fine on my 60" Sharp.

Until Bioware moves the camera in for a close up and you see how horrible clothing looks. Or hands for that matter.

The texture quality on most clothing and smooth armors, most notably around seams, layers and welds, is pretty poor compared to the facial texture resolutions. It isn't a matter of computer hardware or graphics settings. It's simply a fact of pretty much every Bioware game, unfortunately.

At best, perhaps modders will be able to decompress the texture files and bring them up to par. At worst, well, just try not to notice it as much as possible.

Their biggest mistake in terms of graphics was going with software based 4xAA instead of allowing scaling hardware AA. Which I really don't understand when the game uses the same engine as ME2 and that supported up to 16xAA.

This. Cutscene textures are not too good, but I think the in-game graphics are better than ME2.

Had to disable and re enable AA to get it to work properly on mine. Make sure your card isn't forcing textures.

ME games have had issues like this for a while. ME3 is better than the other two though. I think this is because they have simply made the clothing designs with high detail to start with as opposed to the way most PC games work where they add additional code or layers to be interpreted by your graphics card, thus giving you more detail. This is common among games that started off (and the main player base) as console gamers.

At the ME3 midnight launch event I attended here in Chicago, I was the only person amid a massive store full of fans that ordered the PC version (I am old school and like physical media). The rest were all 360 owners and like 2 PS3.

Games that are conceived for the PC first and then ported over to console always have better (and more) graphics options. Hell even StarCraft 2 has more graphics settings to tweak in-game than most FPS games LOL.

But if you run a PC rig and you have a graphics card from the last year or two, you can probably assign desktop profiles for that card. Those profiles carry over into ANY application you launch (provided you don't use the 'application specified' option in those settings) and that will improve image quality on some fronts, such as Anti-Aliasing, Tesselation, etc.

I REALLY hope this happens. But I seriously doubt it as BioWare has never cared about this kind of thing in the past and all the high-res textures mods come from fans. I seriously do not see why on earth they don't release it though... except apparently there is some inane argument that they want there to be parity of experience between PC/PS3/360. I personally think that view is total crap.

is there any custom graphics settings you can manually enable in some configuration file - I heard you can add trilinear filtering etc

Faces and environments look nice, but Shepard's own outfits look terrible. I wear the dress uniform casual outfit, and the piping around the collar (just like Anderson's) is terrible. We have the camera zoomed in on our characters the entire time--their textures should be stellar. Instead, they look woefully out of place.

The uniform itself, while my favorite outfit, has another problem: the next clips right through the collar, just while standing there. How did that slip through?

I have to admit that the quality is uneven to say the least. In most places the graphics are really good or I just do not notice the flaws (immersion and all that jazz). I expected worse after the demo. But there are still instances when I cringe my teeth :/ Its bipolar story with textures here... I game on GF 460GTX and upped everything that I could (Ihave to mention that the config tool is rather poor... especially when I look at TW2 I must say - yeah, that game spoiled me a little ;]), will post screens when Im back home to show ou what it looks like.
