The coloring isn't accurate on hair. I made my Shep have dark blonde hair, since that's what I have, and dark blonde is now dark red/brown and the dark blonde facial hair is black and that is what bugs me the most, no amount of tweaking can fix that unless Bioware release a patch to fix character creation.

They improved the cc. Faces seem much more defined to me. For example, to me the ME3 version of your character looks best - more realistic. If you feel the face looks different, you can always tune it, right? Also don't underestimate how much a different hairdo can change a the look of a face (they made yours more voluminous).

I'm not sure it's a matter of the cc. The same basic options that have been there since ME1 are still there. It's not like they added twice as many nose shapes or anything. They just look much worse in-game. The same goes for the 'extras' (generic characters) in game that I guess are created with the cc options. (Like, the committee right at the start.) They look bad compared to ME2.
You're right about hairstyle influencing facial appearance, and some I've tried work better than others. But I liked the tight bun specifically because of how it framed her face. Replacing it with a granny bun is...not an improvement. If they wanted to add a granny bun, fine, but don't take the other away.
Now, the specially designed characters, Anderson and Vega and the default Shep, look pretty good. I remember back to ME1 people saying that the quality of the default Shep was way better than the cc versions. I didn't see that big a difference back then, but the difference now is huge.

If the above pic actually shows ( I'm on the PS3 browser atm, lol) , then that's a pic of ME. No exaggeration. This CC is awesome. I could never recreate my self in the first 2 games. My wife actually asked me how I managed to put a facescan into the PS3.

I have always thought the CC generated faces looked poor, especially in ME2 compared to the squadmates. I actually think the CC generated faces are considerably improved, from what I've seen in screenshots and the demo. Of course, they also improved the pre-generated faces, so the difference is still there.Clarian wrote...

So far I've put in way more work than I did with ME2, and no reward.
How specifically do you think it's better? I don't see that it's really changed. All the same options for facial structures, mouth shapes, etc., are still there. If they had expanded the options, that would be an improvement, but that's not the case.

I thought mine looked great, even compared to squadmates.

Even if that were true, I'd argue that for this series, improvements that come at the cost of being unable to retain a resemblance to your previous characters is the wrong direction to go. I think the appearance of cc faces from 1 to 2 improved quite a bit, but while still looking like the same people.

Not so much about increased option, but about how what you create transfers into the main game. ME1 & 2 CC faces looked way worse in-game. ME3 ones actually look better in the game than in the CC.Clarian wrote...

And BTW, does that pic show? I'd hate to fire up the laptop to fix it.

Obviously you're right that the actual CC functionality hasn't been improved, but in general the faces it creates have. That's what I meant, and I suspect this poster as well.Clarian wrote...

I was able to get an uncanny resemblance of myself in ME1. Haven't imported him to 2 yet, let alone 3. Maybe I just got lucky.
But if you want to prove the superiority of this cc by recreating the look of my ME2 Shep from the first post, you have my enthusiastic support.

Just out of curiosity. Did you design the face to be appealing or just 'real'? I don't mean to offend, but I have a hard time seeing this as appealing. Which is fine of course, especially since it comes across much more real than many of the other faces I've seen around. Just goes to show how subjective all of this is.

Even if you think it looks better, do you think it looks like the same person? That's not so much just a matter of taste.
And since the cc options haven't been expanded, it means I don't have a good chance of getting the same ME2 look by picking different options in 3. It's unlikely that "ME3, option A" is going to look more like "ME2, option B" than "ME3, option B" does.

I don't think that nose is in anymore... The rest is doable.. Do you have an ME2 facecode?Clarian wrote...

Might be they actually shifted some of the paramters, but you're probably right. Still, it isn't about the actual shape of the heads, more about the impression you have from specific angles. It's quite possible that a slightly different headshape in ME3 will make it appear more like the face you remember from ME2. Weird, yes, but there you go.Clarian wrote...

I'll give it a whirl later on... meanwhile here's more of Jack Shepard AKA dw99027. Too bad I don't have any ME2 pics for reference....

Sorry about the crappy quality, but I'm a lesser PS3 user....

My sole (soul?) comment is that when I remade my Shep on the second game (to get the code) and imported to the demo, his face looked caved in. I mean, literally, his cheeks must have been blended directly with his teeth. And his wave/hair flip turned to a plastic cap.
I fixed his face, and changed his hair to the spikey type (without the widows peak, left side of slider) and he looks like he changed his hair between games (and, well, graphically, his face).
That's my Paragon. My lean faced Renegade had to get lean again, lol.
Next time I post on here, I'll have my Sheps faces hopefully.

Yeah, I love the new CC aside from the hair options and the longer hair looking plastic.
I will also say that I totally remember using the facescan option in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, and it never came out looking right.
