So after taking a break I restarted the game and went into the multiplayer, after clicking it I changed my mind and went back into single player, when I logged into the game my level reset from level 41, to level 1. Luckily I had quick saved just before the autosave and was able to load back to my original character. I just thought I should report this bug.

My imported character has this happen sporadically too. I have to keep reverting to earlier saves. Happened on lvl 31, 35, 39 and 41. each time after dying, i'd continue the game and my shep would have the default face, no powers (just points) and a default level 1.

weird thing is that my squad mates retain their levels and their powers/skillpoints but mine are reset everytime I go to a new area.

Its a good thing to save often.

I am having this issue as well, I didn't catch it until the assault on the Cerberus base, its basically made the game unplayable, as a level 1 character has pretty much no chance on this mission. the only save I have to revert to is 12 playing hours out of date.

I'm having the same problem, had a lvl 41 shepard stopped the game to download some DLC (ashes and argus) reopened the game and now hes level 1.
None of my other squadmate were effected.
Also all my credits went missing.

Anyone have any ideas on whats causing this or how to fix it? I really don't care if I need to use commands to restore my credits and levels or something else but I don't want to have to restart.

I'm currently trying to keep a list going of all people who spent money to buy bioware points from the origin store to buy veteran/spectre packs for multiplayer use. This happened to me as well, on top of the reset ashley (my romance since first game) ha ha s disappeared, i can use her on missions but she is not in the normandy or citadel between missions... This is ruining the feel of the game for me

This just happened to me right after taking out the[SPOILER]............................. reaper base.

I'm now on the N7 Fuel mission, landed and im lvl 4, while james is lvl 33, and garrus is 35. got bug?? wtf, this is a horrible bug. This really saddens me.... ruining the game experience!!

Used Gibbed editor, and gave myself enough XP to level up.. Issue resolved using the gibbed tool.

I had the same issue as the OP, but for me it didn't happen after a multiplayer session.

My instance happened when I was just starting a mission after doing scanning on the Galaxy map.

 I just encountered the same issue, upon starting the mission on Eden Prime I realized I had no abilities and checked my squad, we had all reset to Level 1 from Level 36.  i continued playing and then the game locked up.  Dohhhhh:(

I've also run into this problem - just now for the second time. Haven't logged onto multiplayer yet, though, so that wasn't the cause for me.
