These companies waste millions in R&D yet they can't understand how the media is loaded to their machines. It's almost like the first console maker looked at his product and said to himself "I need to keep the user as far away from this thing as possible.
Much like Chewbacca, this makes no sense lol

thats so stupid, i have the game installed and that is going to cause so much unneeded wear and tear especially since the collectors edition disks are so tight i feel like im going to crack them everytime i pull them out. Why cant we be able to use only 1 disk to load up an installed game off the hard drive, disk switching is so primitive.
Unfortunately the reason we can't install one disc so we don't have to swap anymore is because then you could just buy one copy of the game and two people could play it. So instead of you and your cousin both spending $60 (well $70 because of the stupid From Ashes DLC) you would just end up splitting the cost of one game (plus $10 each because of the stupid From Ashes DLC).

Anyone that has a problem getting up to swap discs is just pure lazy and needs to go for a walk.
I dont agree swaping disks kills the immersion of a game. There is nothing worse then being in the zone and seeing the disk swap message!

I suggest keeping your game disks in paper sleeves. All of my xbox games are put in paper sleeves and slipped into the case where the instruction booklet goes. I have been able to keep all of my games in perfect condition this way. Pulling a disk in and out of the case can cause the inner ring to crack.

They really need to add a blueray player to the xbox. more space on the disks (~50GB)
next year the xbox 720 will have blue ray so we wont have to worry about that.so they say

Ah good idea! I dont actually have the console version, so I don't need to disk swap, but I never thought of doing this with my console games! Thanks!
As for disc swapping on consoles, yeah I agree it's annoying and wish they would make it so you can install and not need to keep swapping, although as another said, I see the sharing discs thing.
Although... I wonder if it would be possible for the programmers to code the game so that if it's running off the hard drive, it requires disc 1. That way, if you put in disc 2, it would be like "Please insert disc 1 or delete installation and play game from the discs." Not sure if that's possible, but if it is it would make for future games to not have disc swapping but still not allow it to be played on more than one console at a time.
