Happened to me twice in two days. This is nuts.

I contacted technical support "Live Chat" and they had me delete my computer's temp file.  Of course, that didn't work.  Next they wanted me to play without a virus check and without a firewall.  Wrong! Their final recommendation to fix the level reset problem was to reboot.  None of their silly suggestions worked.  Then they told me to "have a nice day" and contact them again if I needed help in the future."

Big bucks for an unplayable game.

Same here, as well. Luckily, when I finish playing, I always do a regular save and then a quicksave. My quicksave was level 1 but my regular save was 52 or whatever I was at the time.

Why would you not quick save for 15 hours though? Quick save every opportunity you get.

I gotta agree here... f5 is too easy to press to not use it for that long.

Happened to me last night. All my saves are infected by it execpt one. But if I load it I'll lose over 8 hours. The save is from when I first set foot on the Normandy.

Just happened to me. The save before it is from 6 hours of play earlier and I don't particularly want to sit through 6 hours of gameplay that I just finished. This is an utterly ridiculous problem :s Level 40+ charachter is now level 1 and my face is reset as well.

Shephard imported from ME1 + ME2.

I just lost 10 hours of gameplay to this ****.

Level 30, then BAM level 1, no armor, no credits, no fuel, no NOTHING.

I withstood the crap of Dragon Age 2 and the travasty of SWTOR.  Now this? This is the LAST time I purchase a Bioware game.

This was in another thread that someone above linked to. It's not a fix, but at least it's a workaround.

Full credit to NedStarIced for posting it -

Mass Effect 3 save editor can be found here: http://svn.gib.me/builds/masseffect3/

Open your save > raw > scroll down to player > level

Its not a fix but its a work around so you can at least play again. Kudos for this goes to a friend.

In addition to the level though, remember to change the XP level as well. It took me a while to figure it out but if you don't, you won't be levelling up. Took a while to figure out the right amount it should be at. Noticed it because the bar never moved when on the squad screen. Repeated checks of xp amount in the editor showed that xp was increasing, just not showing up so a few random guesses led me to an amount that filled up the bar a little bit so I assume this was the issue.

Pity it doesn't get back my shephard's face.

@Torsional: The quick saves and autosaves are the ones getting corrupted, thus the lost gameplay. It's too easy to just hit F5 and overwrite your good save with a corrupt one.

Does it happen after you play MP game? Or when you lose connection to EA servers.

I was level 51 and all of a sudden I am now level 4!!
I also noticed that all my choices for armor and guns reset. (I still have the guns and armor) but I have to re-equipt them..

I didn't lose any credits, but now my "talent" tree is all screwed up and it has locked abilites on it!!

SPOILER!!! (would it be that hard to add spoiler add-on links to your forums BioWare!?!? :P)
This happend to me aftyer I destroyed the reaper base on Tali's homeworld.

Since this bug has happened to me a couple of times, I figured I would either give up on the game completely or figure out a way to play with this ridiculous bug until it's fixed. After reading player feedback on this forum (since technical live chat support didn't help at all), I've tried the following approach. It's worked through playing last night and some this morning.

I found my last, uncorrupted save, and restarted from there. Had to accept losing lots of play progress.

From now on, I don't use "resume." At login, I use load, and pick my last manual save.  I do not load from an auto-save.

I manually save at every progress step. Before I save, I check that Sheppard is at the level she should be. I'm not using quick save since quick save might cause me to save a corrupted character.

This seems to work so far. It's added steps to check Sheppard and then manually save. But it's better than having to redo content over and over.

Maybe there is a faster, easier way of playing until this bug gets fixed. But until I know for sure what is causing the bug and that the bug is fixed, I don't trust "resume," "auto-save,"or "quick save."

I can say that the same worked out for me as well.

Just try to avoid Resume, auto-save and quick-save. Try to save as often as possible manually and only load those savegames. then you should be fine.
Had no problems whatsoever after i started doing so.

For me its happened only once and it was right after playing MP and going straight into Resume. I found out that when I restarted game and loaded game my char was back to its original level. I am above level 52 when it happened. Also I think it happened a second time and all I did was just load up a save. The best thing is to do is notice right off the bat and see if your char is right level and then simply just load.

How does something like this ship with the game?

Because several hundred thousand (or million?)players can find more bugs than a department of a couple dozen bug testers. Say 80 hour work weeks, 50 people in the department, testing for 20 weeks. That gives you 80,000 hours of game testing, spread out over the entire game. If only a hundred thousand people buy and play the game for a mere two hours on the first day, that's 200,000 hours of 'game testing' in a single day.

And they don't 'play' the game. They get to repeat walking up to Joker for a couple of hours to find the reproduction steps to get stuck on that precise bit of floor. So someone has to think, "what if the player makes a multiplayer character, backs out and resumes playing singleplayer again?" and test it when there already is a gruelling testing schedule and no time to sleep. As bugs go, I can see why this one slipped through the cracks.

Yup I agree, the people find the bugs waaaay faster than the game company. But thats also due to so many different computer rigs too. Bioware at least when finds bugs they quickly fix them for most part. Unlike other companies who just don't respond and make excuses. There is so many factors now in games as they become more complex and how computers are now widely customizable. It just makes sense to find these small bugs to be missed. At least for most part it isn't entirely game breaker bug so thats a good thing.

+1 on the issue. Luckily I had a hard save not too far away. I was going to do the ex-Cerberus scientist missions.

Had basically the same thing happen for Multi-player. All my pack-earned stuff disappeared. Happens when you (accidentally) click "Shop" during a match start up. Awesome......

Just lost more than 12 hours of gameplay (I was relying entirely on quick and autosaves). Now I'm level 1 and the rest of my team is 45. The next closest hard save is 12 hours earlier...
It happened after playing multiplayer and clicking "Resume".
Seriously.. what the ****. This is the last time I purchase a game under EA/Bioware logo.

Its from using "resume" too fast at the load screen while its still verifying your content. As long as you pay attn after the load and dont get to an autosave point without noticing you can just reload immediately and its fixed.

To avoid it you can just wait a few second longer before you spam click that resume button on the main menu. Is that ideal? No, ideal would be no loading issue, but a few seconds is way better than 12 hours getting back to the same point.

***I was bumping my thread explaining how it happens and how to avoid it for days... no one was bothering to pay attention and kept posting new threads saying they were now level 1 so I stopped wasting my time.

Shadedsoul, thanks for the thread explaining the issue and how its replicated.

Just need Bioware to acknowledge this issue and get it fixed.

I lost 6 hours worth of gaming and haven't gotten the motivation to continue.

Imagine only being able to play for 5-10 minutes at a time before crashing out to the desktop and count your blessings. Find your motivation and kick some ass!

Happened to me too. I repaired my download, and then realize I'm back to level 1.  How can I fix this?
