lol at the first reply.

I think the romance part is cool its also cool that you usually get a choice in it.it gives the story and characters extra depth

KTOR had romance I  didn't get much in the way of romance from Jade Empire just some flirting .

I'm both a completionist and a roleplayer, so I try to play all the possible romances in games (but only if the replay value is good enough to justify doing other playthroughs), but I'd never force a romance on a character that weren't suited to it.

My first character, for instance, is usually a rather antisocial mage who is mostly interested in knowledge. He's unlikely to be interested in romancing anyone. Other characters will be, though, when i get around to playing them.

It was there. But it was not really shown beyond the post game "where are they now" text you get one of many tales. For example from the Wiki:

If the student does not romance Silk Fox, she will become Empress of
the Jade Empire. If the student does romance Silk Fox and the student
is male, the student and Silk Fox will rule the empire fairly, or with
an iron fist. If the student is female, Silk Fox will either rule the
empire fairly with her 'companion,' or will again rule with an iron
fist, and both the student and Silk Fox don the Silk Fox costume to
silence dissenters.

My opinion on romance... Bioware games are fantasy novels with very good paranoid thriller serving as the backbone of the plot. The gameplay is drapped over this. What parts of the daramatic formula one indulges in is up to the reader.

Personally, I will do at least one completionist playthrough to see every corner of the game. Romance must be a part of it. Then will come the RP playthroughs were I go throught it with the story I want my characters to be a part of. One will be a "Jerks for Justice" play through (Dirty Harry with a sense of humor) and no romance and one will be a "I #### marble I'm so virtuous" play through witha romance.

If I really likethe story I will do more play throughs. I am on my fourth ME palythough and, IRCC, i did seven BG2 playthroughs.

The romances are going to be an integral part of the Dragon Age experience for me, just like in BG2, KOTOR, Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

However, I heard some people saying around here that they were really trying to stay away from romancing a party member as much as possible. Why?

Is it for role-playing reasons? Is it because you find these romances too "cheesy"?

For me, I think the romances in the previous Bioware games were very un-life-like, so I can understand where you're coming from when you say "They're too cheesy for me". However, don't ask me why, but I think that's exactly one of the facts why they fascinate me so much.

In BG2 you had three interesting romances (+ a few interesting mod-romances): Jaheira was a very interesting character (and very resisting at times). Aerie was super-cute and you just HAD TO like her. And Viconia was... well, she was quite different.

The Bastila-Romance was not deep enough but still awesome and a very important part of the game for me.

The romances in Mass Effect were much too short for my tast.

And I can't really remember Jade Empire at all... Although I know there was romance SOMEWHERE in it... Right?

So, anyway, why not romance in Dragon Age? And if you say "No, I don't want to romance." then based on which experience are you trying to avoid them? Were it the KOTOR-romances which made you stay away from more in the future? Was it Mass Effect? It can't possibly be BG2 with these beautiful three characters that these virtual women are, right?

Why... is it in any way any of your business how some people want to or dont want to play a game that has no tangible impact on you or your life? Also, some of us have romantic relationships IRL.

Yeah but I found the ME romances unsatisfying. It was harsh to romance Liara then go for the human domination ending. Viconica from BG2 was still the best. You had to show a willingness to sacrifice yourself for her and if played right she would change for you.

I would like to see a romance where the object of affection would influence the character down paths or try too. One where they play you as a pawn. It is a great fiction stanard that would be nice to see. A real black widow found in classic Hamet or noir films would be great.

I think the main problem with the Mass Effect and Jade Empire romances were that the games themselves were way shorter than previous Bioware titles. I liked them(hell, you could get a threesome in Jade Empire), but Baldur's Gate 2 had the best ones. I'm looking forward to trying out Dragon Age romances, though.

I like romances in game but  I never play romances for " romance sake"., and I don't plan any romances in DA:O. The first reason, is NPC appearance, and I have to say that personaly I don't find any of DA:O romance interests ( for straight female) attractive. We got two blondie, while I prefer dark haired man. Also elf as an option isn't interesting for me, while I never romanced with Elf but once ( it was in BG2 Tsujatha mod, but he wasn't typical Elf).. Another thing is my PCs stories. I will play as a Dalish Elf, Human Noble, Dwarf Commoner and Mage. While I don't want Zevran, only Alistair left..well my Dalish will not romance with him becouse of his race, my Mage don't want him becouse he is ex Templar, while my Noble will take her duty as a Grey Warden very serious, and there's no time for "love" on a battlefield.  Also there's no option for my Dwarf ( don't want Human or Elf in her bed)

Honestly, I played and beat all of the Baldur's Gate games and it wasn't until after I had beat Throne of Bhaal that I even realized that you COULD romance another character :P

Yeah, I am pretty oblivious. So as far as this game goes...I'll just play it by heart.
