Hello,

How frustrating it is to play ME3 and realise afterward that nothing has been saved...
I hope the technical support can fix this one:

System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits
Language: French
Origin: last version installed from http://www.origin.com/download

INstallation directory for ME3: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3
My Documents is pointing to: F:\\

Résult: no party can be saved. Why?

After going through several forums, I noticed that similar problems already occured with ME2. It says that it could come from the fact that My Documents is NOT pointing to C:\\. I think I am not the only one to have such a config where games and private files are stored on another hard disk than C:\\. How come the DevTeam would have overlook this?

Well, I created a directory structure as recommended in My Documents, namely F:\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 3\\Save. When I tried to save in game, I switch back to the folder and noticed the creation of the file Local_Profile.sav.

Problem solved? Not really, the saved progress was not visible in ME3. I exit and close the game, and when I launched it again... OMG... it was a fresh start with no game, no profile, no nothing. As if I just had installed the game. :(

What should I do to solve this?

Additionnal info extracted from file: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Data\\MassEffect3Config.xml

<string name="Language">en</string>
<string name="ROOT_DIR">${CONFIGXML_DIR}\\..</string>
<string name="BINARIES_DIR">${ROOT_DIR}\\Binaries</string>
<string name="USERDATA_DIR">${CSIDL_PERSONAL}\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 3</string>
<string name="SAVEDATA_DIR">${USERDATA_DIR}\\Save</string>
<string name="SCREENSHOT_DIR">${USERDATA_DIR}\\ScreenShots</string>
<string name="SYSTEMINFORMATION_FILE">${USERDATA_DIR}\\SystemInformation.xml</string>
<string name="CONFIG_DIR">${USERDATA_DIR}\\BIOGame\\Config</string>

I look forward to reading your solutions

This problem and the solution is discussed here:
http://social.biowar...-9653018-1.html

The problem lies in the path to "My Documents" folder. If it's different from Windows default (C:\\Users\\bla-bla-bla...) the saves won't work. Don't try to change manually config files or reroute My Documents back to default folder - it won't help.
But don't panic, there's very simple solution.

Just create new User in Windows (the path to My Documents will be automatically set to default for new User). Login under this new user, Launch MassEffect3Config.exe and MassEffect3 itself.
Voila, everything should work.

You can always check My Documents after MassEffect3Config.exe was started: the BioWare folder should appear.

Of course it's an outrage - such bugs to exist, but rumors are that Techs are working on this.

Ask if I'm not clear enough.

I think you are clear enough. and Thanks a lot for giving me the soluce.
It is a pity to have to create a new user just for ME3. If it works Ill then do it. If and when the Techs would have patch this, will it be enough to copy-paste the sav-file in the new folder (under my normal user profile)?

I've tried many other more complex approaches - this one is the simpliest. No problem at all.
Regarding your question - I'm positive about that. The problem is not in saves.

Yes it works. I had to reinstall Origin because launching directly after the creation of the new account was preventing me from logging in because of 'invalid cache folder'. The reinstall of origin overcomed that issue and I could launch ME3, save, exit, come back, continue playing... all fine.

I hope the Techs will come back soon with a patch because it isn't fun to create an account just for Origine/ME3.

Big thanks to you for the soluce mate.
