I don't know what you were playing before, but ME has always been a story driven 3rd person shooter with RPG elements. NONE of the games are what I would flat out call an RPG. It's like you're complaining about a new model of Ferrari not having conservative styling.Soulwatcher1974 wrote...
And over all game play I am going to give it a 7, beause it played more like a FPS then a RPG.
Over all it took me 13hrs to finish the game and I think its safe to say that Bioware are no longer the Great RPG makers they use to be. Until (if ever) they break away from EA, dont expect too much from Bioware!
Greg
It's also laughable that you have apparently finished what is intended to be a 40ish hour game in 13 hours and give it low marks.
Have you even played the game? As I stated over and over in this thread the planets are nothing more then FPS levels. Could I give myself the mind numbing task of exploring every single planet to kill time so that I feel justified paying $70 for the game? Sure I could, but thats not the way I play a RPG.
Give me real quests and I will complete them all. As I stated in this thread eariler my last Oblivon save has 320hrs on it and I completed every single quest in the game.
A honest review from a hardcore RPG fan!

Problem is the Citadel was waaaaaaay to big and spread out (yes I know that's how it would be if such a thing were to exist). Mako levels got old FAST. Putting along in boring, uninspired, and seemingly computer generated terrain to get to cookie cutter side mission levels was DULL.VironZ wrote...
Mass Effect levels have always had a set path, hell the planets you could explore in ME:2 where only a few areas, the only moment of exploration on ME:1 I could recall was the Citadel and the Mako space areas.
Exactly, I don't see why people are complaning, always the same
ME:1) Dull, citadel too open, mako missions are boring as hell, not an easy game to break into
ME:2) why is the citadel smaller? no mako, aww that sucks, I loved the mako, oh its the hammerhead, oh wow hammerhead missions are boring, where are the hardcore RPG elements from the first one, I want what we had
ME:3) Oh look at the stat progession, much more complex than ME:2 more like ME:1 more RPG elements, oh wow it doesn't play like an RPG game, this sucks! look at the customisable content, this was missing from ME:2, oh no theres no more hammerhead or mako, but I loved that!
The developers can never win and the majority beats the small amount of people, especially length, people say 'I beat the game in 13 hours it sucks' to be honest, someone that beats a game that pointered towards 20-30 hours didn't find everything, as a true fan would, if you truley loved the series heritage you would have took the time to go through every little bit of the game in detail.
Its only 20~30hrs if you drag it out. As I stated many times over there is no questing only new FPS levels. If you want to play every single level just to say you played it, more power to you.
When I play a RPG I want to quest and explore, not kill wave after way of mobs and funnel from point a to point b. If I wanted to do that I would load COD MW3!

You didn't even read my posts it appears. EVERY single plot mission in EVERY ME game (including 1) is linear. Does that = FPS level to you? There is very little of what you could call exploring. The extent of that is "Oh here's a side room with a safe full of goodies." This is gonna blow your mind, but most of Dragon Age: Origin's levels were linear too. Damn FPS levels!!!
Driving around empty, boring, and computer generated terrain to get to a side mission location that is IDENTICAL (except for the way the crates are arranged inside!) to several others you have already been to is not what I would call "exploring." Doing a completionist run of ME1 after having played it before is mind numbing.

You seem to not be able to discern a difference in game types. Elder Scroll games are RPGs with FPS/Action elements. ME games are 3rd person shooter action games with RPG elements.Soulwatcher1974 wrote...

Not really, no.

I do know the difference, and Bioware stripped almost every RPG element out of ME3. And made it a glorifed shooter with RPG stamped on the box. If you like it better then ME1 more power to you.

That is borderline gut wrenching to hear. I was hoping for at least 20-30 hours of playtime.
Gaming length is a very subjective topic, you'll have to see for yourself.
I for one will not try to guess how long it will take me to go through the game based on other's playtime, past experience says it never works.

If Bioware is reading through these threads, which I know at least some of you who are responding are, don't take this as an indicator of general fan opinion. The game is great and everyone I know who has played it has it as their best game of the year and of last year. I see Zelda being discussed and I have to laugh. If Zelda is the style of RPG you crave, my guess is that you never knew what Mass Effect was about to begin with.
Its very obvious that you have not read all 6 pages. Zelda was a old school RPG, I am talking about the 80's Zelda. Games have come a long way sense then.

I'm just a little over 20hrs clocked in the game and I think I'm around the half-way point. So far it's been great and having fun. There are some parts of the game I feel is lacking but generally it's just minor stuff.

Every time the game gave me something to do I did it. I guess you could play the game on insane and drag out the fights.
If you dont talk to anyone or even stop and listen what people are saying, I guess you dont get many side quests. Just waiting for the game to give you something to do? You are prolly one of those players who need hand holding through a game because you cannot search, explore and find out stuff for yourself?
Yeah, Insanity does make fights more lengthy and a hell more intense and challenging. But if you want to RP a real hero that is the way to do it. Pain heals, chick dig scars and glory lasts forever. There is no glory in lower difficulties! But the worst thing you can do is to rush through a wonderful game like this.
Did you even find your Shepard VI to talk to? I would bet you did not.
Mass Effect 3 - The Real Shepard HD
No i did not go and look for every single side quest. But every time if the game gave me something to do I did it. Like I said the game plays very much like a FPS and not a RPG. Every time I went to a new planet, it felt like a new FPS level and not a rpg map.
You can not explore anything the game leads you on a pre detrim path and you get waves of mobs until the time limit is reached. Just like a FPS!
Now if you want to talk about real RPG's. I put over 800hrs into Oblivion, I dont think may people can say that.
I don't think you know what FPS means. It means First Person Shooter, so unless you did some kind of hack to only be able to see shepards arms or gun sights, you aren't playing an FPS. Bioshock was a FPS, Call of Duty was an FPS, Even elder scroll plays as a FPRPG, unless you pick the option to see your character all the time.
In FPS's, you never get to see your character, in ME3 you are expected to always see your characters face. You probably mean TPS, third person shooter, but I would debate you on ME3 being an actual shooter. It's agenre blender, and I'm enjoying every minute and hour I play of it.

If you want to get technical yes its a TPS. I am not a huge shooter fan there all fps in my eys.

Obviously you do not. If you expected ME3 to be an RPG, you do not know what mass effect is about.
Mas effect 1 was the worst of the three, but had the most RPG elements. Just because you like that does not mean that that is what the develepors were going for, or that it's the best game.
But then again, you're not going to open your mind to that train of thought, so why even discuss it?

It's just not the style of RPG she particularaly likes. That is what I was getting at basically. I personally think that is a tad narrow minded, but to each their own.
