Well, I destroyed the box and she certainly survived me saving the Hanarr world. Was that just bad information or is there something later in the game?

Yeah she Scared the SH*T out of me when she did that. One of my favorite characters was almost gone.

The other characters were all Reaper fighters or heroes born for the Reaper campaign.
That doesn't mean I didn't like the other characters, but I think Kasumi's life could have been interesting enough for a game. Even without that gray box.(I never liked the graybox tbh, but I accepted it)

The graybox choice does not affect her survival. It does however make her role go from "unacceptable" to "wtf I wanna claw my eyes out".
In case you hadn't figured it out, destroying it is the less vomit-enducing option. Though even there your choice doesn't matter if we take epilogue slides into consideration...

You realize this is a 3 year old topic that has been resurrected, yes? Talk about necro.
It was probably pointed out already but you do need to get the gray box for her to survive in ME3. That doesn't mean you have to let her keep it. It essentially just means you need to do the loyalty mission. The confusion may have come from misunderstanding or miscommunications. Someone likely misinterpreted what was meant by "you need the gray box". The loyalty mission lets you destroy it or save it so people likely assume saving is what is being meant by "get the gray box". When in fact all that was meant was you getting the gray box in the first place. What you do with it after you have it is irrelevant.

Huh, didn't see that. Oh well. What was true three years ago is still true today.

Better you keep it. She can resurrect him in the Green ending.

As bad as synthesis is, this just makes it worse.

Keiji wants the grey box destroyed. Kasumi wants to keep it. It needs to be destroyed so Kasumi can move on.

If only she did...
Yet another ME2 character that was given a cheap faux-dramatic and one dimensional background to hide the fact that the writers just didn't give a damn about these characters.

She kinda does. But I tend to question her judgement with her being interested in "Mr Personality Bypass" Jacob. I don't blame her in the tend. Keiji has more of a personality and he's dead.
