I've played as the same Shepard from back when I bought Mass Effect 1 in 2007.
It was a lot of fun importing him to ME2 and seeing a familiar face.
I get an error message when importing him into ME3 from a ME2 save file. All of his data such as story info comes over fine, just not the appearance.
I've tried to recreate his look but I just can't get it quite right.
Is there a solution for this problem coming soon?
Failure to import character appearance.

Its a known issue. I don't have a link to the forum that discusses it, but you can find it by searching the forum or google. Its discussed in several places.
Bioware is working on a fix. As far as I know there's no ETA on a patch.

Yeah just saw that in the General Discussion board... my mistake for heading straight to Tech Support
