I've had this happen to me towards the beginning of the game if I try to go there from the Citadel. Not an issue from other locations or later in the game. Weird.

The only way I could get to the Holding Docks (except for the save method) was to use the elevator from Purgatory. Any other method would lock up the PS3, but it worked every time from the club. Also, if you manually save your game before entering *any* elevator and load the Holding docks while the game is saving..it seems to work. At least that has been my case.

Sweet, I'm not the only one that has ran into this issue. I figured accessing the area through the Normandy would work but I have not yet had the chance to try it. Glad it worked for most people, I just ope it works for me. Sucks that we have to find alternate ways of accessing areas in the game when the game should have been ironed out in the first place. I guess that's what happens when you had a crappy port.

The work around only works for so long.  I got through one playthrough, avoiding the Citadel as much as possible and suffering for it in the end, but I wasn't so lucky trying to start over.  Anytime I try to go into the Citadel at all I get blackscreened/frozen.  Doesn't matter if I come from the Normandy or try to go from one place on the Citadel to another.  The Dock Holding area is where it started for most, but it escalates.

The game is pretty much unplayable for me and some others I've noticed.  They need to fix this ASAP.  Nothing like shelving a game a week after purchase because of heavy glitches/bugs.

The patch (if it really meant to fix the issue) seem to fix the black freeze issue during my first playthrough, now on my second and it's back plus the going-out-on-the-Normandy-then-docking-again trick not anymore working. Why? D2, Holding Area, Refugee camp isn't available anymore on one of the options. The ending I've come to accept but this bug overshadows that, hopefully it will eventually get fixed.

EDIT:

Managed to enter D2 Holding Bay recently however the Bau quest is not working anymore: the terminal you're supposed to investigate cannot be accessed but the docking bay map indicate it's there.

I have the same bug with the Bau quest...it's really a pain to not be able to access the terminal, I took the Normandy route, in accessing the Refugee Camp. I sincerely hope Bioware takes notice of this issue, and the "black screen of death" sooner rather than later.

Just FYI - Created about 13 days ago. Unlikely that something will happen any time soon.

Use the PS button work around and then just go there straight from Normandy ... Or just don't bother playing.

And still, no response from Bioware. Can we get a weekly update? I don't understand the lack of communication. Is it punishment for people's response to ME3? I know there's a process which Chris Priestly posted which takes time. I just think we need some kind of update on what's going on. Sure, people might not like hearing it may take more time, but I think most can appreciate someone letting us know something.

Do the right thing.

I got this too today.
In the begginining game i was able to access the refugee. But after some missions i cannot enter it without screen going black. However i can enter it straight from normandy. can anyone confirm that later on accessing from normandy still will be working?

Yes, I can confirm that still works for me. Around 20h gameplay.

The PS button workaround worked for me only the first time, but thankfully I can access the refugee camp from the Normandy every time, otherwise it's just black screen.

Can you really get to the Docks Holding Area from Purgatory? I have to try that sometime ( whenever I feel like playing ME3 again ) since it beats the crappy method I'v ebeen using to get there.

The direct access from the Normandy to the Dock Holding area worked for me on my first playthrough. I tried avoiding the Citadel as much as possible, but I managed a whole playthrough. I think I did a 45 hour first playthrough. I imported this character from ME2 and tried for a second playthrough with the same character.

You can only access the Dock Holding area after you've visited it from the elevator, at least once. I can only access the Embassies or the hospital from the Normandy. Since I have to use the elevator to access the other floors before using the Normandy to whichever floor, I've tried to go from other places. When I use the elevator to get to Purgatory, I freeze/blackscreen. No floors are accessable to me except Embassies or hospital from the Normandy. Elevator doesn't work for me at all.

Perhaps I have a corrupted save. That happened with Skyrim. Only problem was, even if you delete save and start all over again, it would still happen. The more gameplay you have saved the worse it gets. I've learned my lesson. Wait for the patch. Not fun, not at all.

I was also experiencing a black screen,
however I tried to access the refugee camp.  Did not have an option to
select this area when docking.

There is a certain point in the game where you have to meet a councilor
at the citadel.  After I completed this mission, the refugee camp then
appeared as an option when docking at the citadel.  As long as I enter the camp this way,  do not get a black screen.

Starting from Purgatory was the only way I could get there without freezing until I experimented with saving the game and immediately using any elevator to load the docks. So rediculous to have to do either of those.

And these lockups did not happen to me until patch 1.02. Prior to that patch, my game would bug out and I couldn't finish the Spectre/Hanar mission...but I could at least get to the Docks no problem.

I tried to start up a new game yesterday. I got three hours into the game before a freeze. Wasn't in the elevator either. I managed to take the elevator from the Embassies to the Dock Holding area and within about a couple minutes of running around the game froze in mid run.

I shouldn't have tried. Hope to hear something on a patch or some kind of acknowledgement that this issue is being worked on.

I have the same problem! I'm supposed to go there to talk to Sayn but the black screen just doesn't go away.

*edit: I found a solution! Try to access the Holding Area from the Normandy instead of the elevator (when that woman asks you where in the Citadel you want to dock, pick the refugee camp.)

I got in with no problem and was able to continue my quest. I just couldn't access the holding area directly from the presidium commons.

I had the same problem two days ago. I tried this solution yesterday and it worked. I do hope Bioware could fix this.

same thing happened to me the easy way around it for me was to not access the holding docks from the floor above or below it go to the commons and then access the holding docks from there that always works just never from the one above or the one below

Interesting, I'll have to try it.  Thanks KonohaNoShinobi.

Also experiencing this issue; took more notice of it during the Aria: Eclipse mission when trying to access the holding area via the Presidium commons (after speaking with Jona Sederis in the C-Sec office. Hopefully 1.03 will fix this?

Will try approaching the holding area via the Normandy.

This happens to me consistently during Act 1.

After Act 1, it seems to work fine.

But before doing the final Act 1 mission on Tuchanka, I consistently get the "Black Screen of Death" and have to hard-boot my PS3 when attempting to go to "Docks: Holding Area" on the Citadel.

Kinda sux, because there's a number of Citadel missions that must be turned in before completing Act 1, or else you don't get the war assets.

Yeah, the Citadel is where it all happens.  I love the Citadel.  It's funny each game it looks different.  It looks good in ME3.  I just wish it didn't freeze up so much.  I really don't know what kind of damage it does so I can't bring myself to keep trying.  I am really hoping to see Bioware's response on this real soon.

I can wait on whatever it is they are working on for the future, but not being able to play at all is tough.  Maybe next week we'll get good news.
