It happens all the time, just for that area. Not good for my PS3.

Same problem here as everyone, in my 2nd playthrough i tried getting into the docking bay where the refugees are but after the first loading screen i get a black screen with some background noise but nothing more, i have to reset my PS3 to solve this problem, the strange thing is during my first playthrough i never faced this problem.
And no i can't access the docking bay of the refugees from the Normandy, the option isn't open until you actually visit it through the elevator.
The only way to make it work is to bring up the XMB by pressing the Playstation button, wait until the loading is over then press it again to get back into the game .. i tried that and it works .. but seriously this needs to be fixed in the next batch.

Same problem as the others. I thought it was just me. It only happens at the Citadel, and I have to restart the game. Luckily, I have anal retentive personality and save anytime I touch the elevator.

There is also a short cutscene where an Atlas is supposed appear from the debris. You can hear the clunking of the footsteps - but you don't see the Atlas.
Twice this has happened during subsequent playthroughs.
(This has been confirmed on youtube to show correctly on the PC/Xbox360).
Sloppy programming I tell ya!

Still no word as of yet.... You know i will say this it does bother me abit when the devs somewhat respond to the pc/360 players on the me3 forums but not us. Its almost like they dont moderate these parts. At least with dragon age 2 fernando melo and others would come in and ask questions and just let us know the very simple " we are aware if this issue and are investigating it". I always apreciated that. This citadel buisness is game breaking and these freezes and fps have already bricked some ones ps3 come on BioWare please check out these parts of the forums for all that is holy.

My guess is they haven't nailed the problem yet. I've seen some responses to stuff on the forum so it's not like there has been total silence on the BSN. I would think they'd love to respond to keep us updated. Like you said, I remember with patches needed with Dragon Age in the past, we were well informed on the progress. At least weekly.
I've seen patches on other games rushed, which have been kind of messy. Hopefully, with them taking time to respond to us, it just means they're making sure it's a complete fix of the freeze/blackscreen issues. Of course the other issues as well with some of the quests and the fps issues others have posted about.
I doubt they have a full staff on the weekends. So hopefully sometime during the week we'll hear something.

Thanks all for the work around of using the Dock Control Officer. This has been frustrating me for the past few days. I figured it was just me. Glad I had multi-player to keep me occupied until I found the board and this workaround, but really, BW needs to fix this!

Thanks for the help with this one guys.
Fast travelling from the Normandy to inside an elevator, immediately saving, then selecting the Refugee Docks worked like a charm for me. Unfortunately, the terminal for the Hanar mission was still glitched so I had watch that one on Youtube.
It's a damn shame. I had only two extremely minor glitches when I did my entire Xbox playthrough, while my PS3 has been worse in terms of textures, framerates and loadtimes.

This is not happening to me. I used to not have the problem if I went to the Normady docks than the holding area, but now that doesn't work either.

For me the same.
Hope this will be fixed in 1.02.
Even if its not in the patchnotes.

I gave in, traded my PS3 copy in and had to pay for the price difference for a PC copy. I know that's not the answer, but I couldn't take it. As much as I was disappointed in the ending, I love the rest of game. I want to play it.
Sadly, the game is 100 times better on PC. The graphics, the framerate, and so far in a new game no bugs. Was it worth it? It was to me, even though I know I got ripped off. Lost my pre-order stuff and the demo for Kingdoms of Amalur is a nightmare to play on my PC. So I lost the bonus items for that too. The one thing that worked better on my PS3 (KoA demo, lol).
I hope Bioware fixes this for the PS3 users real soon. Good luck guys.

Got the same problem, but not every time. Thus far it has frozen on me about 50% of the time. Very annoying but now I've learnt the lesson and save every time I take the elevator.
The first time it happened the restart did fix another glitch where the volus in the bank didn't want to speak to me. Mixed blessings huh?

Now, on a new playthrough, it's glitching out on the mission for the spectre guy where you have to find the consoles ... I do the one at the embassy, but I try to go to Holding Area, it black screens, I restart, and when I finally get to Holding Area, the map says there's a "Terminal" point of interest, but the brackets to X on it never show up.
This is ANNOYING!
It was mildly annoying the first time around, since it just went away later in the game, but now it's REALLY ANNOYING because it totally ruins the replay value of the game. Instead of looking forward to trying all the things I missed in my first playthrough, I DREAD starting a new game because of the CONSTANT REBOOTING OF THE SYSTEM it requires.

Same issue. It was fine on my first playthrough including the Hanar / Spectre quest. Second playthrough I get the black screen when going to the holding area. Workaround via the docking officer lets me get to the holding area but the hanar quest is bugged out.

Sorry for the necro post, but I just experienced this glitch.
TLDR Version. Go to elevator, select location, hit PS3 button, wait a few seconds, hit PS3 button again.
I tried accessing the Dock Holding Area/Refugee camp from the Normandy (I had already been there) and was able to get back to the Dock Holding Area/Refugee camp but I was not able to access the terminal to continue the Hanar Kasumi mission. I then went back to the save before first trying to get to the Dock Holding Area/Refugee camp. When I got elevator and immediately after selecting the Dock Holding Area/Refugee area I hit the PS button, waited a few seconds then hit the PS button again. I was able to access the terminal to continue the
Hanar Kasumi mission.
The only reasons I am posting this are to hopefully assist others who have not read the entire thread and to give a big thank you to the poster who suggested pressing the PS button.

As per a new Bioware post in the News sub forum, a patch scheduled for April 10th will be resolving this issue.
