I find the trick to avoid romancing Tali every game is just to play as FemShep sometimes. You then end up romancing either Tali or Garrus every game.

To be honest, as much as I grew to like liara and then cheat on her with garrus, I dumped both of them in the end for Traynor. Although her character development is very lacking, what little of it was done is wonderful.

ME1 Romances are so... forced and immature. Give me Thane. He really is the only option for a more mature female audience. Hell, even Garrus' romance feels too... "young"... to me when compared to Thane's, and I love his whole romance arc.

DAMN YOU BIOWARE!!!!!

I bought them both at the same time, but I played ME2 before ME1, did the same with the Half Life series, First and only romance i ever did was Tali, so when I played ME1 I didn't want to do the whole romance thing because you only had 3 choices back then, I had Garrus and Tali in my squad a lot because they're the only charachters in all 3 games, unless they kick the bucket in ME2 or something.

Liara vs Liara, tough choice.

Pretty much how it goes for me.  I was really thinking I would actually go back to Liara since I like her a lot too, but once Tali showed up I couldn't help it.

I romanced Liara in 1 but I didn't really like her character change and how she developed in 2-3. So I went with Tali, because I really liked her character in 1 but was confused as to why I couldn't romance her.

That was one thing Bioware listened to the fans about and implemented for the most part, CORRECTLY. Tali was such an awesome character throughout the series and besides for the hiccups in ME3 (the "face" reveal, the lack of closure because of the ending, really poor handling of romance dialogue, etc.), she could arguably be the best romance option even though she was introduced as a non-romanceable character.

I feel like such a jerk for cheating on my ME1 LI's, but the ME2 ones are so much better!

If I romanced Garrus--I always choose Garrus. He's my best bro and it's impossible to break up with him. Although I felt REALLY guilty when I turned Kaidan down. In my first Garrusmance, I went on Garrus' date first so I never got the "I know why you cheated but I still love and want you back" talk with Kaidan. He just accepted that I had moved on and we were like brother and sister.

In my second Garrusmance, I went on Kaidan's date first and got that dreadful conversation. Really tough. Won't be doing that again.

I find I have to do loyal playthroughs to continue my first romance. I guess you can technically do a Thane romance and not have it affect your ME1 romance (much), but that just seems way too depressing.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it plays out when you go from either Kaidan to Garrus, or Garrus to Kaidan. Wish there was some little jealosy-banter... but that's just my inner fangirl who likes such things, lol

I think they're both a little to mature to engage in such snarky behavior (such as the catfight between Ashley and Tali), but I would have appreciated some kind of acknolwedgement--even if it was just like...I don't know...finding Garrus and Kaidan on the ship somewhere and one telling the other congrats and take care of her or whatever.  It certainly didn't seem like much of a love triangle.

Something like that would have been perfect   =)     but I can imagine it happening so it's not so bad.

This game makes these choices brutal. I thought it would been fun to have a love triangle but really it stresses me out more than the real decisions like curing the Genophage. For example James Shepard was going to break it off with Miranda to get back with Ashley. All goes well at the hospital with Ash and then when I meet Miranda at the docks it all goes to hell. I mean...tears?! From Miranda?! Why couldn't she curse you out or something? Like I need this guilt trip.

I cut off the game and haven't played James Shepard since.

Main one is Ash... sucker for females who are into poetry and sonnets.
Jack ... well because egh into good-bad females too.
Tali... the shy nerdy techy type (though that pic was so anti-climatic).

At OP: if Kaiden wasn't so backstabby, I might be inclined to agree. Still, at least he's better than Ashley, who comes across as whiny, accusatory, AND xenophobic.

Still, strict ME2 romances got screwed (I mean characters that weren't in ME1). To be fair, anyone who didn't romance Liara kinda got screwed, with VS a close second to Liara.

PS: fave romances: Tali, Liara, Jack

For Femshep, Garrus FTW, as it's hard to feel fulfilled when space cancer destroys the only other viable emotional romance...

Why is it that FemShep's most developed romance scene is with Liara, of all people? VS don't get quite the same development, in my eyes...

Speaking as someone who has played ME3 twice, once with Miranda as my LI and once with Liara, I actually vastly preferred how Miranda's was handled in spite of the minimal screen time she has.

Liara's is written so bad it's ridiculous. She'll tell you you haven't been together in years even if you got back together 6 months ago in LotSB, she'll repeatedly call you "just friends" and it's like the entire romance exists in a bubble. I thought it was pretty much the worse romance in a single game in the series.

Kicked Liara aside for Jack without a minute's hesitation.

And I'll happily kick Ashley aside for Miranda if I ever import that Shep into ME3.

Even though Jack and Miranda got bent over a barrel in ME3, I MUCH prefer them and their weak romances because of how amazing they were in ME2.

You are a smart man.

There are some buggs in the Liara romance, sounds like you encountered at least one of them. She is supposed to have different dialouge if you did LotSB.

Kaidan for my FemShep, always and forever.

Horizon sucked, and I would have written it differently, but I understood his issues and mistrust. It made sense to me, and I had no problem staying faithful. I knew he would come around.

I won't say that I didn't eventually make other playthroughs to try out Garrus and Thane, but only for curiosity's sake. They were nicely done (in ME2), but I don't think I'll be able to finish Garrus' in ME3. I tried to do Thane's... and ended up right back with Kaidan. I felt kind of bad. Thane's character treatment was just horrible though.

As for BroShep... I find Liara boring, to be honest. I've got a playthrough with her (faithful) that I can't bring myself to finish. Then I've got another that went from Ash to Jack, and that was fantastic. I have yet to bring him into ME3 though. I'm still too hung up on FemShep/Kaidan to really go through with the others. Maybe if/after everything's fixed, because unless/until it's established that he doesn't lose her again (the thought of that kills me) I can't move on. Sad, no?

Kaiden is a wuss. I romanced him in 1 - he pissed me off in two - and been with Garrus ever since. Garrus's romance (out of only two available for hetro women) is by far the best. Kick kaiden to the curb...you wont regret it. :)

I agree. The conversations with Liara have been horribly overdone since ME2 and the fact that no matter if you break up with her or never initialize the romance, it still feels like there is something going on between her and Shep is just plain annoying.
