When I start up the game, it gets to the intro sequence with the globe (immediately after the omnitool sequence) and then the screen goes black. No sound, no video, and the Xbox guide button does not work, I've hard reset this 4 times already after waiting almost 40 minutes each time.

What is going on?

edit: I would also like to add, I was literally just playing this game 8 hours ago, and everything was fine.

An update, it's still failing to load. I've changed the system resolution this time, figuring it may be a similar lockup to some of the people with DLC but, it hasn't changed.

Further updates on the situation overall:
Apparently this is a common issue that's been happening where some of the discs refuse to start up again.

Edit: However, apparently purchasing a new game will not solve this issue.

Oddly, every other game I own (including ME1, 2) work fine on my X360. This is the only game that refuses to load.

I'd also like to add how wonderful (not) the support is in this forum.

I am in the same boat as you. Ever since the December update of 2011, many Xbox 360s are having trouble reading disks. MS released a software update that "upgrades" the anti mod/copy feature on the Xbox 360 , thus the Xbox thinks that some of the Xbox 360s are modded or something.

Here more about it in the following links. Proof that MS caused all of this and since December hasn't admitted to the issue, nor have they planned any type of patch. I am going to remember the Xbox 360. I've had a total of 5 soon to be 6 Xboxs’. MS will rush out the next console to beat Sony. Myself I am not nor will I ever buy MS next gen console. I am getting the PS4 without question.

Remember DON”T buy MS’s next console. I won’t be.

It's MS's fault. The update isn't compatible with some of the older Xbox 360's. It is a software issue that MS created. The thing to do is, send your Xbox off to MS. If course, if it is under warranty, MS will pay to get it fixed. If not, you have to pay around $100 to get it fixed or buy another Xbox.

i have not been able to play ME3 since Wednesday do to the Black Screen returned game for a new ME3 and still black screen so im either stuck with a 60$ disc that wont work or i can trade it in as used and get less than 40$ for it.

this is not acceptable and i think Bioware needs to give a full refund for this error or compensate those of us that are experiancing this GAMEBREAKING bug!

This needs a fix, or at least a official response from Bioware that they are working on it.

I'm having the same problem. I have my gamertag loaded to my memory card. With it in the game locks on load. If I remove the card and load without using a profile then it loads fine. Seems like there's something associated with my gamer profile that is causing it to lock. I've only played through MARS on the first disk.

I had this problem.... then i tried another game... funny any ME game would NOT load, all others would . I started looking and found a "corrupted avatar item" in my system storage on the hard drive. I deleted the 2 corrupted files and now the game seems to be working again.

I am able to play the other 2 Mass Effects, no problem, and I did find 2 corrupt avatar items (deleted them). But unfortunately this did not solve the freezing issue, checking everything else on the HDD now.

It turns out it was the two avatar awards from ME3 that were corrupt for me, just downloaded them again, seeing if that changes anything.

UPDATE: No, it didn't.
