One problem is people were posting impersonating EA staff (me included - ugh). Granted, most people know it's BS, but still - that's not ok, right?

That is pretty seriously uncool. Another reason to distrust metacritic on top of just producing bad data by virtue of a bad process.

I just get tired of people giving it bad reviews solely because the ending didn't happen the way *they wanted it to* or somesuch crap. Most of the bad reviews came about because some fan or other got pissed about one thing they didn't like, which colored their whole view of the game and made them overlook all the good things about the game and trash it publicly just because this one aspect of the story or the gameplay didn't plan out exactly the way they wanted to. It's immature and shows that they're either children or have malfunctioning mental development.

My problem is the first 100 negative reviews were posted within a matter of hours after the games launch.  There is no  way anyone of of those first reviewers played before submitting their reviews.

The endings are so full of fail on so many levels , it's a common one. Your judging user reviews by paid reviewer criteria. Users will for the most part go with emotion. Best game ever ! ME3 ? That's lol worthy. Likewise someone who is disapointed will exagerate in the other direction.

The most useful reviews are the ones that list points. That way you can just tick off what matters to you and come to a conclusion.

Autodialogue, yep plenty of that. How much it bothers you, thats the deciding factor how much it would influence a score.
Someone not bothered could easily rate the game a 9 someone who just saw their Shepards personality of 80+ hours nuked could well rate it 3 or even 0 if it completely ruined the game for them.

Yet again I'm saying is it shouldn't be illegal to just say something.

I think you may have been confused with what I was trying to say

It's not illegal to say something... if you say it in a public place. Websites aren't public, they have rules and terms of service, like any company. You start bashing gays, impersonate people, or just post 0-reviews with SUXXXXX as the justification... then kindly go spout your free speech somewhere else.

Beginnings are always the first impressions of a game and endings are the last impressions, nobody cares about the stuff in between. So yes beginnings and endings are the real game changers.

I don't even listen to most reviews. The only reviews I kind of heed are the ones where you can tell the writer knows and enjoys the series. That way, you can be sure they're seeing some of the more minor tweeks made to games than maybe more "generalized" fans (for lack of a better term) would pick up on. A lot of reviewers are just that: reviewers. A good chunk of them aren't what I would consider gamers to begin with, nor are they programmers or devs or designers.... so unless their taste is somehow more refined than mine is, I'll judge most games myself.

Oh, and friends. I listen to friends ****ing about games and take notice, because I know their tastes.

It never will until Metacritic figures out that it's the height of idiocy to let every mouthbreather on the Internet write a review and rate a game without any attribution.

No different than any other site, Write a review on Amazon sometime. If it's a good review that haters will down vote, if it's a bad review the fanboys will down vote.

Demo's are the only honest way to experience a game these days.

Interesting . . . .

While I agree in principle, who gets to judge what constitutes a review "devoid of criticism" and "disruptive, offensive material"? Sure, I believe I could, but that's just my opinion, and that's a subjective judgement. And on the other side of the spectrum, what about those reviews that have nothing but praise for the subject in question? Sure, they may not be "disruptive, offensive material" but I'm sure quite a handful fall in the "devoid of criticism" category.

Bottom line, I believe I can judge for myself the merits of a user's review.

I understand that, and that isn't the debate I was having with the person. When you post on a site you agree wo do it on their terms and I'm ok with that.

I was debating it that it shouldnt be illegal to say what you think, not that metacritic isn't in the right here. I don't agree with it but if it's in their rules then they can do it.

The honest thing to do would be to scrap the average rating all together, particularly if you're doing this sort of pruning.

But I guess it results in page views - and interest far out of proportion for the rather tiny number of people who actually rate so it's not going to happen

Tread carefully. This is a "no spoiler" forum. and although not revealing details, some people dont want to even read that some think the ending is disappointing. I'd rather go in with no preconceptions.

Because your view of free speech is ridiculous. As if you only know of it from school or college or whatever but don't really understand what free speech is about. In reality. I said it in the other thread. There are always rules that keep people from doing stupid things. Because if we let people destroy everything, then they will destroy everything. If you defend people bashing a game in a most childish demeanor then why should I act mature towards you? Don't like fire, don't go into the kitchen. It's just amusing how you feel offended and probably have the Board rules in mind and at the same time defend those Bioware bashers over at metacritic for their 'free speech'. How comes you don't support my free speech when I say that my opinion is that you are an idiot? See what I did there? Supporting free speech when it is to your advantage is easy. I want to see you do it when it turns against you.

We are discussiong if it is illegal? I don't think it is. Even if I say something that gets me banned it wasn't illegal, just against the site rules. My problem is people using the free speech meme for everything and actually think it is their right or something. You can almost always voice your opinion in an educated, civilized way. And I will support your right to do that every time. But you can't say what you want and when you want and to who you want. That's a difference. You can't lie, you can't harrass, you can't intimidate people. Basically like with weapons. Everyone may have the right to own a gun. But surely not everyone will have the right to shoot anyone they feel he/she 'deserves' it.

Metacritic is the game industry 'standard' right now. As long as that is the case (and fans/critics realize that) it will be the focus for user love/anger.

Its just the way it is.

With all the 5/5 herp derp! paid reviews out there, EA has no right to complain.

A perfect 10/10 score is really dumb so why not remove those too ?

A 10/10 score is only 'dumb' if its basically some fanboy saying 'OMGZ0RZ DIS IZ DA BEST GAME EVAR'. IF it's a reasoned review with a 10/10 result then its fair game.

The issue is that a lot of the 0/10 scores come from reviews that whinge about being gay or Origin or how EA eat babies etc etc. That's just digital garbage and should be treated as such.

Only good things come out in 10/10 reviews u know coz it won't say anything about the bad things and that's what a few game sites have done. They haven't spoken on both sides and have said' 'OMGZ0RZ DIS IZ DA BEST GAME EVAR'

Well... I dunno about you, but IGN's 9.5 review made it pretty clear it wasn't the best game ever, but gave credit where credit is due - that seems a fair review in my book.

"How about we remove every post ever made on the internet that some one didnt agree with. Last I checked this is America its your god given right to free speech!"

There is a significant difference between speaking one's mind in public, and speaking one's mind on an internet site, whose domain is ownedby a company, but allows people to speak on the site. It's the equivalent of someone hosting a forum in their living room. Like it or not, if someone starts ranting, or even says something the host doesn't particularly want to hear (even if it's the truth), the host can eject that person because its his private property. The public doesn't own the internet.

Well, I am glad they removed the reviews that are not accurate. For me, the problem is detecting what is or is not an "accurate" review.

As Jarrett mentioned, there were cases of people who had created accounts under names of BioWare staff and gave ME3 a zero. There were also cases that definitely were people deliberately trying to hurt ME3 for whatever reason without any actual validity to their complaint. However, it is possible that some "real" reviews were also deleted and this is wrong. While I would disagree with people who say ME3 is a bad game, I am for their ability to do so IF they have a valid complaint and can explain why it isn't good.

Personally, I think ME3 is a damned good game. I would give it a 9 or 9.5 overall (I am also of the opinion that a perfect 10 is pretty much unachievable). I would also say that no game deserves a zero and certainly not ME3. I can remember a semi-truck driving game where, among other problems, you could drive infinitely fast in revers, drive up the side of mountains, and have your head & tail lights leave your truck. This game only rated a 2 on metacritic, but it still wasn't a zero.

It is a problem on metacritic and similar sites that people with actual valid complaints and dislikes are having their complaints ignored due to "trolls" who are using the sites to only casue problems. Until thise can be fixed, I'm not sue what the solution can be.

Eh, I'm fine with them cleaning out reviews that are obviously of troll origin - both for and against the game. Just saying 'it sucks' and giving it a 0/10, does not help me make an informed choice about whether or not I might want to try the game out. The same goes for people spamming 10/10's with little reason. I wish Metacritic would screen their reviews and weed out any that follow that formula, and only keep the ones that offer some insight into why the game was given the score it was. I'm fine with a 0/10 score if you just EXPLAIN yourself, which most don't seem to do.

And impersonating EA staff is NOT ok. Love them or hate them, I'm leaning towards the latter right now, that's simply not acceptable.

However you advertised an RPG and while I would endorse ME3 as a great game. It's an awful RPG It no longer supports the Shepard personality established through ME/2.

In fact I've taken to playing it as an Inferior Final Fantasy, Yay action mode !
