I am noticing a short period of operability crippling lag upon entering the Multiplayer section of the game. It routinely goes away, but it is routinely present as well. The delay slows or prevents menu navigation, and there is visible delay from the animated background effects.
I am using the PSN Download version of the game.

My current theory is that the lag is caused by the background particle effects being loaded all at once and bogging down the cpu and hence the menu. Even the oscillating menu highlighter slows down during the load and then it runs really fast after it's done loading all the intensive graphics.

this only happens at first start up of the game, as far as ive seen. Just wait 15 seconds before you start doing anything and youll be fine.

Happened to me.
But it's not really a big issue, just waited 10-15 seccond and everything started running fine.

Same here, every single time - but like the poster above me - a little wait and it's over.

Same here. Every time also... I have to wait a little for it to go away. It is no deal breaker, the coop is nice, but still it gets tiresome after a while...

And i can second that, thought it sometimes takes my ps3 up to half a minute to be operational when i enter multiplayer

I noticed the same thing. Interestingly enough, it did not happen on the demo. Maybe it has something to do with loading from the disk?

I was about to ask this same question, guess since everyone has it, it's ok.

Every time....being able to patch game after release just makes poorly QC games~~~~sigh..

I have to wait like 30 seconds for mutiplayer to finish loading up as well.

I hate that as well, but what's even more annoying is the number of menus you cycle through to join a friend's invite, even if I already have a character selected. Why not send me to their lobby, where I can make any changes if needed instead of going through multiple menus?

Same here, but as long as I get into matchmaking it usually stops. Until then selecting anything is super-laggy.

yes, do encountered this problem. What I do, is just wait it out. Usually 15-20 seconds. Hope bioware will fix it in the upcoming patch.

Loading times in general are a pain in the ass in MP.

I've got this issue too. The lag is really, really, really bad once you fire up the game, but it's fine afterwards. It's quite strange. My brother has also reported the same problem.
