If you import your save from ME2, do you have an option to NOT start at max level? I want to get all the story bonuses from the save, but I don't want to start as an overpowered character. If possible, I would rather start from the bottom like new characters. Leveling is a big feature of the game and I don't want this feature taken from me just because I want some backround history.

Well that sucks. I would have preferred the Dragon Age approach where you only got the story. Granted, Hawke was a new character so it made more sense to start fresh.
And not using all points is pointless because then you are just artificially making the game more challenging for you - like those who try to complete the game with pointless restrictions. I want to play the game as it is intended, with no handicaps.
Argh, this is seriously annoying me. I may have to put buying the game on hold.

i imported my ME 2 save which came from a ME1 paythrough so when I started ME3 i ended up starting the game at Lvl 30 with like 59 skill points to allocate. Ive only allocated like half of those right now, just trying to sample everything out before i decide where I want to put the rest of the points.
Although I havent checked if you can unallocate the points when youve used them all or not..
