Everytime I try to go to Denerim, my game freezes while loading. After a while it crashes. It worked just fine for a few weeks. This problem first occurred a few days ago. I've been looking about on these forums and I tried several things, but none of them seem to be working.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Thanks!

I've started having problems in Denirim now too after handign in a few quests to the Bartender at the Gnawed Noble tavern. I reload my savegame and try to enter other buildings in Denirim and everything is fine on entering. It's on exiting to the Deneirim Market square that my game gets stuck on the loading screen with the flashing progress bar at bottom right crawling along and eventually stopping.

At this point I have to reset my PC because I'm unable to ALT-TAB out to shut down Dragon Age.

This is the first time I've had problems with the game. Not seen anything like this issue at all and I've been playing for days and days.

Hmmm, my post didn't seem to submit so I did it again and found it appeared twice. Edited to delete duplicate post.

Quick reply appears bugged. I click submit and did not see my post appear, so I redid it and find it suddenly appears twice. Not impressed with this forum software :)

Ok this loading screen crash on exiting any buildings off the Denerim Market square is also happening on very early save games too, so it doesn;t appear to be restricted to a possible corrupted savegame.

I guess a reinstall is needed but I'm wondering how this will affect my downloadable content and savegames. I'm about level 19 and do not much fancy starting over :)

I've decided to reinstall DA over itself after backing up my character folder and savegames. I'll report back if this fixes anything.

Reinstalling over existing install did not fix things :(

To recap, this only started happening late today while finishing off some side quests prior to progressing the game past the Landsmeet. I only had quests from the Bartender in the Gnawed Noble Tavern left to do. My character is level 19.

Here are some observations about the loading screen lock ups:

1. They only happen when I am exiting any of the small buildings in the Denerim Market Dsitrict such as he Gnawed Noble, Goldannas house, Wade's Emporium, Brother Genetivi's, Wonders of Thedas etc. I can enter these places and they load fine, exiting is where the lock ups happen.

2. I can travel to other areas of Denim using the overland map, such as the Alienage, The Pearl, Royal Palace, Dark Alleys etc, just fine. I can even return back to the Market District from these areas without problems. Again it's only when exiting the buildings within the Market area that is the problem.

3. The Denerim problem persists even if I load extremely early save games. One save in Denerim I have is when I was level 10. This Deneirim problem only started happening today at level 19, many, many hours of gameplay after level 10. This suggests it's not specifically a savegame corruption problem. Assuming that is that each save game in Dragon Age is a standalone data file, which they cetrainly should be.

Also, for a game that supports Windowed mode and ALT-TAB (as it needs to consdiering you can click on Online Profile to launch your Internet Browser and taken to the online profile site), Dragin Age Origins is poorly designed. The developers need to patch things so that when you ALT-TAB out or minimise the game, it throttles back on it's CPU useage. To make troubleshotting easier, I've been playing in Windowed mode and when the loading screen problems in Denerim occur, it totally locks up my system...bad design if you ask me.

I'm now going to uninstall and reinstall. I'll even reinstall to a different hard disk. I hope I don't encounter any nonsense when it comes to reinstalling my paid-for DLC content (Warden's Keep, Blood Armor).

I'll report back after the complete reinstall...wish me luck :)

The reinstall went well. Once installed I ran the game once in order for it to create the local Bioware directory and config files in My Documents. I then applied patch 1.01b. I then ran the game and it took care of downloading the DLC I had bought automatically with no problems..."Sweet", I thought.

Sadly, despite a full uninstall and a reinstall, even onto a totally different hard disk, when I load any save games for my character Seefer, the loading screen lock ups when exiting buildings in Denerim are still happening. This is really puzzling. I've even gone right back to save games before I ever set foot in Denerim and when I enter buildings and try to exit, the loading screen appears, the flashing gleam indicating progress is extremely slow and intermittent, it finally stops and the game appears hung. I've left the damn thing trying to load for 10 minutes with no joy.

I even chose not to install the Toolset for this new reinstall in case that was causing problems.

This is totally bogus. Quite why this problem is now permeating ALL my save games is weird. Surely the developers have not designed things so that every savegame is ludicrously intertwined with all the other save games...that wuold be lunacy.

I'm suspecting that the problem may be related to my installing the Toolset during my play time with this character. There's some talk of this issue at the thread below if you're interested. It certainly sounds plausible but I assumed Toolset issues were restricted to people with Windows XP running Service Pack 2...I have SP3. It may be that the Toolset is rather unstable and prone to messing up the single player portion of the game.

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/124869/1#125123

I guess the only thing left is to scrap my level 20 rogue and start from the beginning, making sure not to bother with the Toolset at all, which is over a week's gameplay time down the drain.

Bioware...I'm not impressed :(

I haven't downloaded the toolset, so I doubt that's my problem :(

I have been experiencing the very same problem with Denerim for the past week. Game crashes randomly while exploring Market and trying to progress quests. Had to skip few quests just to push game forward. To be honest same happened with Lothering, but loading previously saved game helped. Denerim is just hopeless. Have updated all drivers, game is installed as recommended, all DLC are working fine. Assuming its just my old 8800GT causing problems...

I doubt it's your graphics card, VistulaLegion. I'm using a 9600GT. Exact same problem.

I'm still hoping for someone to post a solution! It's kind of annoying having to avoid Denerim at all costs :<

Another development, it seems if I leave Dragon Age on the loading screen when I exit buildings, after 12 minutes it finally loads. Quite why it's now suddenly taking 12 minutes to load an area when exiting a building when previously it was between 8 and 10 seconds is beyond me.

The thing that's beyond me is the reason this just happened. I went through the game three or four times with no problems at all, and now it simply refuses to work without even giving me an error.

Same kind of experience here. Been playing for 76 hours to get to level 20 and not a single problem until now.

One thing I'm going to try is to install Dragon Age in Windows 7. I have a dual-boot machine so I can copy over my player profile and save games easy enough and see how things play in this OS.

Just spent a half hour waiting for Denerim to load, it didn't finish the load. I have a feeling we're screwed, Darrenecm.

Thins with my loading are somewhyat random now. Sometimes it takes over 10 minutes, sometimes just five minutes (still too long though) and sometimes it just locks my computer.

I'm going to try playing these save games on a Windows 7 installation of DA.

Just finished installing Dragon Age under Windows 7 (64-bit version too) then transferred my character directories over from Windows XP and so far (20 minutes playing) all the problems I've been having are gone. Loading screen times for my save games when exiting buildings in Deneirm that were once ranging from 5 to 12 minutes are now loading normally within 6 to 10 seconds.

This is another big win for Windows 7 in my experience with games. Batman Arkham Asylum, GTA IV, Resident Evil 5 and Bioshock are other examples of games that I had various problems with under Windows XP which worked perfectly in Windows 7.

I'm having crashes and graphic issues in this town as well. I've had zero issues or crashes until I got here. The ground in the market will go black. My helm, the blood dragon helm, will randomly change looks depending on camera angle and when I'm moving. It will crash sometimes going into a door from the market, sometimes if i get to close to the middle market area. Sometimes talking to an NPC. I did follow the steps in http://social.biowar...58/index/189269 about fixing the memory leak. I've got an i7 but i disabled 2,4,6,8 cores not 5678. When i did 5678 it still crashed but 2,4,6,8 seemed to work much better. But I'm still getting some random CTD but not as much. I'm on Win7, i7 960, 6GB RAM, GeForce GTX 295. No toolset installed. I hope bioware gets a new patch out soon to fix this towns issues.

Ok, I finally managed to fix it. With an incredibly simple solution, which I should've done much earlier.

I simply uninstalled Dragon Age: Origins including all DLC (Warden's Keep, Blood Dragon Armour, Stone Prisoner) and reinstalled it... worked like a charm.

Getting random CTD's in Denerim only. I haven't had problems anywhere else in game, and for me it appears to be at a time when the party members are about to start a random discussion while exploring. I can re launch the game and play fine for a while but it seems to happen at least 2 times every few hrs if I am running around the city. I have a dual core Intel 3.4 with 3 gig of ram and an ATI Radeon HD 4350 (not the best vid card out there, but surprisingly good considering the price :P). After following this thread, I hope that this issue doesn't start getting worse as the game progresses. Are the dev's even following this issue?

Just a hunch but... any of you guys using HDTextures mod? I was having the exact same problem in Denerim and Deep Roads, if I delete the override folder, problem is gone. Using win7 x64, gtx295 with the latest drivers
