I'm experiencing a little trouble with the limited space on the quickbar when it comes to playing a mage.

Mages, as we know, have a greater array of abilities available that need to be activated manually.
Given that there's no such thing as the radial menu any more we're forced to allocate our spells to the quickbar.
Of course, on some resolutions there are more spells than quickslots, so half the spells can't be accessed as easily.

Is there or will there ever be a viable work around for the quickbar limitation that mages have to deal with?
(Barring the fact that you can access the spells from the talents sheet)

Edit: FYI, I already have the quickbar expanded to its maximum size. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

have you already expandet the quickbar ? click on the right side of it and pull. Then you should have sufficient slots.

You didn't mention it, so a reminder for the sake of surety: You can extend the quickbar by dragging to the right.

Same here, extended but that's not enough. However OP said that the higher the resolution the more quickslots. Is this true? (although I don''t think my pc can handle more resolution).

Yes its true ... and IMHO a bit silly.

What I'd like is for the hotbar to be expandable heightwise. I.e. just moving it one step up would double the amount of slots.

Judge yourself: 1920x1200.
If it does, that seems very silly. But with this resolution, I don't really have any quickbar problems.

Or perhaps something like the quick cast menu that Obsidian Entertainment introduced in Neverwinter Nights 2.

Rofl. I can't belive you PC guys are complaning about quick slots for spells. In the console version we have only six quick slots, end of story. I would jump with happiness if I had as many as the PC players obviously have. Sadly, my PC ain't good enough to play DAO. Im stuck with Xbox version.

So, if you don't have 2000000x2000000 resolution, you don't have enough spell slots. Mmm, clever! I think we need more quickbars - like in NWN - in a patch. It will be frustrating if we have to finish the game by opening all the time the spell sheet for spells in battle. Really, it is weird!!! Didn't they think of this? No radial menu and only one quickbar? Please do something in a patch.

The GUI shrinks as resolutions increase, much like old 2D games, so yeah more slots at higher resolutions (and text becomes microscopic).

The save game files have unused multiple quickslot fields and a selector in them, so at one point Bioware was considering multiple quickslot bars.

Let's defy the laws of physics, shall we? :P The alternative would be way smaller icons, how would you like that?

By the way: Widescreen-users also get more quickslots. :innocent::D

Agree with OP. I've requested a mod over at DA Nexus. I'd love to see the same system as NWN2. Hopefully someone will be able to figure it out.

Bioware much have made it hard to mod the interface or something because the same problem occured when NWN2 came out and a mod appeared within a week or at least pretty soon.

But then again I've yet to see any interface mod at all, can it even be changed?

I have a 30" 2560 x 1600 resolution screen.

I actually cannot expand my quick slot's all the way to the end of my screen, it stops about 3/4 of the way, so there is a max on the number of slots, you just wouldn't know it unless u had a large screen.

This.  All I want is a simple way to move it up and add another row.  That would make me a happy camper.  Sure hope some of the BioWare gang can consider tweaking that.  Mages advancing over level 15ish or so need more room for spells!

Agreed. The quickbar is just too darn small.

I'm not sure if DA:O's interface is easily mutable via mods, but I sure hope it is! There's much that could be improved, not the least of which is the quickbar.

If we can't expand it up (doubling its size) having alternate quickbars like NWN did (Shift, Ctrl, and Alt) would work just as well.

I know this isn't exactly the same topic but... are their any plans on allowing players to customize hotkeys for extended quickbars? I realize you can customize keys as you wish but you are still only allowed the ten quickslots regardless how far your bar is extended.

I do agree though the quickbar is far too small.

The big problem with limited quick bar space is you can NOT tell when a spell is "Cooled Down' so you can recast it unless that spell is on Quick bar. I'd be satisfied if they had the cool down indicated in the talent window, happier with a bigger quick bar though!

@op - why you need that much quick bar then the maximum can provided? Its not like you gonna be a buff bot, heal bot, nuker, cc , summoner, shape-shifter, debuffer and stealing your enemy while at the same time drinking a cool Aids with your other hand.

And why not, pray?

I remove spells that are part of my tactic set-up (companions) and when I played a mage myself, I just got rid of all the unnecessary buffs and limited use spells. I also dont have any pots locked onto my hotbar. You do need to do a little management, but you can get everything on that you need.
