So, didn't bioware promise that you can play the game offline once you activated it via Origin?!

It's not so! Everytime you want to start the game it checks whether the DLC is really tied to your account thus requireing internet, why for the love of god is this happening??? If you are NOT signed in into Origin with an ACTIVE connection YOU CANT PLAY THE GAME.

Edit: The issue has been fixed in patch 1.02

Actually, yes.

Its kind of a big problem for my set up because we have two computers in my house but no way to hook them both up at the same time currently.

What the hell, I would like an official statement why we were lied to.

I've always hated this kind of DRM. It does nothing to stop piracy and typically just inconveniences the user. I guarentee you the DLC protection will probably be cracked by somebody in a week or two. This has always been the case.

Yes. They did.

Look back at some of the locked Origin threads for proof.

The exact wording was

Is constant Origin connection required or is it a single one off authentication when the game is first installed. Is there also a limit to the number of installations available?
Mass Effect 3 will require a one time, single authorization for the single player game. There is no limit to the number of installs. Playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will require a constant connection.

A week or two? More like day 1 or even prerelease haha! Screw pirates and DRM though. I paid my $80 for ME3 DDE (plus another $20 for ME2 DLC to complete before ME3 hit so it'd carry over, so it really cost me $100). Gotta love being hassled by the software companies because they are afraid of piracy though.

It does about as much good as the UN issuing a stern warning letter to a "rogue nation."

I was wrong.

I apologize to the original poster and agree that BioWare has mislead us. This is disappointing.

Actually, this is a trick question. I have asked EA Support directly and I got this answer (translation from other language, so it might look a bit awry):
ME3 will always require a log-in to Origin after the startup. No internet connection is necessary for offline play, once the initial verification succeeds.

SO, in order to play it, work it or whatever, you have to be able to get Origin running for some (unspecified) amount of time. Then you can cut off the Origin or even the internet connection completely.

Um, you CAN play the single-player off-line. ;)

I just tried it, disconnected my internet, started the game. Origin still runs in the background in off-line mode but I had no problems playing.

Still got the DLC check message, but since the DLC is already installed and verified to my account, there wasn't a problem.

You only need to be on-line all the time for the multiplayer part for obvious reasons.

I admit to having issues with this. I understand the urge to combat piracy, but I think this might have gone too far. I think things like Origin can be useful for those who want to use them. Real ID from Blizzard was useful for WoW, and letting other folks on your Real ID list know when you were playing a Blizzard game that wasn't WoW (which is currently just Starcraft 2). I think Origin can be useful for the same reasons: you're letting your friends know that you're in TOR or Dragon Age 2 instead of playing Mass Effect 3.

I don't like that I *had* to install it. Ignoring the issues I had with installing it from the disc (I wound up having to download it straight from Origin's site), and ignoring the issues I had with the release date checker (I had to go into Windows Firewall and put in an allowance for it to get it to work, and I keep Windows Firewall turned off as it is!), I just don't like having to install third-party software to play my games. I don't mind a quick online check when you launch the game to insure it's a valid installation, and it isn't an issue for me because I have a persistent connection anyway, but I realize there are those who don't, and they deserve to play this game (if they want) as much as anyone else who paid for a copy.

I have hopes this isn't the shape of things to come. You don't have to compete with Steam.

So if our internet has an outage, we can't even play at all? That sucks.

Edit: Just read Mooglenut's post. That's good if that's the case.

I just unplugged my computer from the internet, exited out of Origin, then clicked my ME3 icon. Origin came up asking for password. I entered it and ME3 started. I pulled Origin up from the icon and it said I was offline in Origin. And inside ME3, it had the "connect to EA servers" up instead of "connected to EA servers".

So apparently Origin client has the information necessary to still play store on your machine.

Problem probably was because the OP tried and that Origin logon thing popped up. People don't know you can enter your password and be offline and it will still pass. Maybe that information could have been clearer.

I think it was said a long time ago that PC players can play offline.
