I just tried playing offline (internet connection disabled) and it worked fine, including all my DLC - the weapons, the squadmate, etc. It doesn't look like this is a problem at all.

How did you do it? Can you list the steps?

When I do it, it gives me an error: My DLC is not authorized.

It won't let me play at all unless I maintain my connection.

Oh and you are on PC right?

There were sporadic reports of ME2 requiring a constant connection, weren't there? Maybe they're using the same system, and it's failing the same way for a handful of people.

On day one I thought I can't play the game offline but you can plus all of your DLCs.

Here are the instructions:

1. From Origin launch Mass Effect 3.
2. Let the game authorize/reauthorize your DLCs then load up a saved game to check your gears. If you are confident that everything is there, your preorder items and CE stuff save your game again then close.
3. For Origin, just close it. DO NOT LOG-OUT or PLAY OFFLINE.
4. Launch the game using its desktop shortcut. DO NOT LAUNCH FROM ORIGIN.

Happy hunting!!!

Yes, on PC.

I really didn't follow any steps; to be fair, I've had the game since yesterday, and passed all the initial connect to server/authenticate DLC stuff.  Today, I just disconnected my wireless (to disable my internet connection) and launched the game via the desktop shortcut (origin was already open).

I went in to see if any content was missing, but no, all was there, so the DLC is still active.

I wish I knew what to tell you here, it's crap that yours won't work without a connection.

This does not work for me. The same thing happens, with a DLC not authorizing thing.

Closing origin and then launching the game from its desktop icon just launches origin anyway.

Are you actually disconnected form the internet when you follow these steps? I can run the game with Origin in Offline mod just fine IF I still have a connection. The game works just fine with origin in offline mode: But it does not work if I have no connection at all.

I dunno what might be different between us. Maybe because you connect to origin, and then pull the plug while its still open?

I'll keep messing around with it. Again I question what exactly this system is supposed to accomplish. I don't condone piracy at all, but if I had simply pirated it, I'd be hapily playing right now. Instead, I am punished for buying the expensive edition...

you can play the main game but DLC doesnt work without an internet connection. And that makes no sense. This has been the case since DAO and is the single most frustrating thing about Bioware games.

I also keep getting the release day check, hope that goes away soon. Thought that was a one time thing.

But but but... that doesn't make any sense.

Why would I be able to play $60 worth of my CE offone but the other $20 worth of my CE can't.

Edit: and anyway, how can I play without the DLC? It is installed directly with the Collector's Edition, its the same key, there is no option to not install it, and no option to remove it.

I took a screenshot of the message, in case that helps anyone torubleshooting...

I wish Mr. Priestly would come back and give us a real answer instead of sarcasm... :(

Haha oh don't mind Christ Priestly. He had to ingest some essence of troll in order to survive the ridiculous tomtrollery on these forums. It has slightly corrupted him, but he means well.

I am disconnected from the internet and it works for me. During ME3 start it only says connecting then it disappears then it checks my DLC stuff and then it disappears also.

If I do a manual check on my gear its all there. I finished From Ashes using this method.

To authorize the DLC on first time use, you must have a connection. Once it's authorize then do this while offline.

When you start the game, Origin will pop up. Put in your password even though you are not connected to the internet. Origin remembers it apparently. Origin will be put in Offline mode but the game and everything in it will work. (except of course Multi-player and no update to Galaxy at War number)

PC player here. I have been playing in constant offline mode with no problems and the DLC content is there as well in the game.

I have had some problems too. I've found a workaround for it in the meantime. These are my observations thus far:

1. From Ashes needs to be authenticated everytime you start up Mass effect 3 if you are connected to the net when you start it.

2. The authentication process NEEDS the program to connect to the EA servers right after start up. If the connection fails, it won't authenticate even if you manually connect to the EA servers after the game has started.

3. Other DLC's don't have this problem.

4. You can't load a save game if you saved it with From Ashes authenticated.

5. EA servers (At least from where I am in the Philippines) are really, REALLY difficult to get into. It succeeds only once every ten or so attempts.

Now isn't this stupid? The only way that I can load my save game is if I can successfully connect to the servers during startup, which rarely happens. I had to start and exit the game for 20 minutes just to load my friggin' game. If EA servers in your area are finicky, authenticate your DLC first, then just disconnect from the net when you start up ME3. You can connect afterwards.

I've had problems with the PC version a few times as well.

As Jayzr and a few others said, if the game fails to connect to the EA servers on startup - happened to me five or six times in a row last night - the From Ashes DLC won't validate and you can't load your save game. And it's all the more annoying that the game needs a restart - and then hopefully gets through to the server - rather than being able to validate if you manage to get through with the connect button while staying on the menu screen.

But...but... but.. you'll only ever need to "authenticate" once for single player! Chris said so!

I would say there's something wrong with your install. Because I've not had this issue.

^ Well, the above has convinced me to delay buying From Ashes at least until these problems have been confirmed to have been fixed.

I was kinda on the fence on whether or not to buy the DLC for my first playthrough, and this settled it.

Nothing wrong with my install. I redownloaded From Ashes twice before I figured out what was causing it. Stupid EA servers.
