I'm still in the "honeymoon phase", where I feel like the game is incredible...I love it more with each mission played...I know I will end up being devastated like so many, but I intend to enjoy the game for as long as I can...and then I will probably jump on the haters bandwagon, given what I've read...oh well, back to more gaming for now
So far so good!!! Thanks BW!

To be more accurate, it's more than the last 10 minutes, it's the entire part after the Cerberus base.
I agree.
I thought the final battle on Earth was amazing. Actually even the part with Anderson and the confrontation with the villain at the end was amazing. It was what happened afterwards that all went downhill fast.
Like Vas said, the assets didn't actually matter in any tangible way.
This was only made worse during the Final Mission.

Okay I'm going to give it to you straight and avoid spoilers because that was really ticking me off, the amount of spoilage going on in this subforum. I stand by my earlier assessment in that the game was absolutely a blast to play, no doubt. Had as much or more fun with it than the others. But the ending...
Well, I'm a pretty generous fellow and I absolutely expected to come back into this thread with happy tales about how everyone has overreacted and such. And I think people largely HAVE overreacted. Maybe its just because I saw so much dissapointment from folks before actually seeing the ending myself that I was partially buffered from potential disappointment myself.
Keep in mind I've literally just finished and haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it yet but I found the Decision to be very thought provoking. And honestly I really did love everything about the game accept for the final wrapup (5 minutes or so). Felt pretty rushed. Horrible ending that utterly ruins an otherwise phenomenal game? Hardly. Certainly not worth all the moaning we're seeing about it. But at the same time, I'd liked to have seen a little more in the conclusion.
Hmmm...definitely interested in diving into the spoiler forums and see what all's being discussed. Like I said, it is thought provoking. All told, still a great game and top notch trilogy though. Thanks for all the puppies, cigars, and drinks though everyone!! I'm headed to the spoiler forum!

Its just very difficult for me to bring a lot of hate onto the game. There were far far too many absolutely beautiful moments in the game for the ending to ruin the whole product. As far as I'm concerned, BioWare packed in more emotionally poignant, high calibre scenes in this one title than a whole years worth of other releases combined. And l'm not prone to hyperbole. They managed to pull two games worth of emotional connections forward into their final title and blasted out scene after scene of such well written and emotionally satisfying character stories. I just can't snub my nose at that. Sure the ending was weak, but it just can't overshadow what I saw leading up to it.FlyingWalrus wrote...
not quite the meltdown the Ending Assault Squad was schadenfreudeing for. it's nice to see someone with a grounded opinion though.

But yeah, I agree, it was just sort of weird. I actually went back through the final 20 minutes after posting last night and did another ending. So I see where much of the complaints are coming from. The game seems largely separated from the actual endings, so that's strange and unfortunate. And besides all that, I'm a little surprised that there wasn't simply a longer wrap up to the ME line, ya know? I was totally expecting some very cool, detailed epilogue or something. So it all felt very rushed to me.
Still, I feel sorry for all the folks that have opted not to play the game because of the face import issue or because they've heard bad things about the ending. ESPECIALLY if they're big fans and have played the previous titles. There's just too much awesome stuff that they're really going to like in this game. That's one of the things that I'm most sad about in this whole outrage debaucle is that some ME fans will not be seeing what I found to be one of the most emotionally rewarding video games I've ever played.
The other sad thing about all this is that there are tons of good folks, regular people that worked really hard on this project and brought us a wonderful game. But because of the lackluster ending, all they get to hear is hate vitriol about the whole product. That saddens me.
Thank you BioWare for the stuff that was so awesome in this game. Amazing work!

Seriously, would you pay for a new ending DLC?
By the way, thanks for being so polite.

Well, no, I probably wouldn't. But I'm not the average gamer I guess. I don't typically buy DLC, even for my most beloved titles. And for me personally, I can't see any sort of DLC ending action that would be more palatable for me. Here's why.kbct wrote...

I definitely would not buy something that I felt like BioWare just put out to appease the fans. I want whatever they legitimately feel like is the culmination of their vision for the series, even if I find it subpar. So a new DLC ending for fan appreciation is a no go for me.
On the flip side, if it turns out that they were planning more ending content all along via DLC then that also doesn't sit well with me. That would indicate that they sold me a game and then wanted to surprise me with a surcharge to get the real ending. Not cool. So in my mind, endling DLC is going to be a pretty sketchy thing either way. I say they should just let it be, a relatively subpar ending to an otherwise phenomenal series. Anything else would at best look like creative sellout and at worst, a very slimy money grab.

There seems to be a lot of negativity floating around here so I just wanted to chime in with some positive zen. I'm only about 3 hours in right now, and only getting to play in snippets (father of a 3 year old) but I just gotta say, thanks BioWare....it feels good to be back. Being a big fan of the previous two installments I was very excited to get back to Mass Effect.
So far the story is gripping (jumped right to it!) and I'm already feeling attached to the characters. There's a lot of emotion wrapped up in just the opening few hours for me. I absolutely can't wait to see where this goes!

I wanted more out of that ending. The song almost made me cry, i was emotionally hooked and 1 minute later it was all over.

It is good to read this - as it has been difficult to read about so many unhappy fans everywhere bashing "the last 5 mins". It seems like many have made it sound like Bioware is disposing the entire mass effect IP.. which i hope is not true..
I'm playing the quarian-geth part now and it has been a great pleasure to immerse myself in what i see as 30+ hour long ending with a twist in the epilogue as a send-off, which may or may not disappoint me.. i have no idea. And i agree that all the good things in the series should not be cancelled out just because of a less than satisfactory send-off.
Having said that, i have this unconditional love for 'mass effect', even with the lacklustre graphic novels and missed oppprtunities in ME2..
Well-written and acted cut-scenes, abundant in ME - another thing that can be easily overlooked because its so transparent until you play, say, Starcraft 2 or 'final fantasy 13' (jaw dropped when i found out the VA for Liara was the same for Lightning in FX13 LOL) - the attempt at dialogue and story in these two games are truly truly painful and skippable. ME has raised the bar others can dream of reaching. This is considering the fact that the place that i actually discovered 'mass effect' in 2008 was in a screenshot in a home-theater forum discussing plasma-tv's - i had to check out this game that had a realistic looking animated character (Liara) with a dialogue wheel at the bottom. That, and the title has an intriguing logo.
Bought the game, booted up, the theme came and the camera travels across the Normandy and i was sold. Apologies for the off-topic nostalgia..
