Hello fellow Mass Effect lovers!
I was wondering if someone can help me clear this up... I was in a silver lobby last night waiting for a 4th player to join when BAM, a level 56 sentinel joins... I do know in the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Demo the level cap was 20 and I do know when you attain level 20 in the retail version of Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer you can take that character to the main story, but I thought that when you choose this option, it resets the character.

It's 20. If he was actually level 56, he cheated.

I think you confused his N7 level with his character level.

Oh, right his N7 level was 74. He said over the mic that when you get a character between level 50 and 60, you can use one of them instead of a story character

Then I would assume he hacked his copy of the game since the cap is 20.

The N7 level refers to the total number of times you have leveled up in ME3 multiplayer. If you have a level 10 Soldier and a level 10 Engineer your N7 level displayed next to your character level will be 20

That should mean that the maximum possible N7 rating can be 120 (20x6 classes), but currently there are 360 people in the leaderboards that have more than that, with the top guy having 910.

I believe if you promote a MP character and reset him, your N7 rating does not drop, and as you re-level the promoted class it continues to add to the N7 rating.

Doesn't explain a class level 56, though. hax.

There is no cap for the N7 rating - aside from the integral data type of the database entry which I don't know, but its probably a very, very long digit.

true enough I've respeced once and my N7 is 134, the N7 rating doesn't show skill however, I've seen more then enough 90+ N7 people who just suck something nasty.

After you promote you gain N7 levels, and you continue to gain levels as you level up again

What does promoting a character do?

another dissapointment , although i enjoy the multiplayer ( at this point more then the whole single player , because of the endings that pretty much gives the finger to the whole series ) but anyways
lv 20 is pretty easy to reach , i did not know of this cap until i noticed my xp not doing anything..

would not mind a increase on this cap.

If the cap were higher, then skill point progression would be slower, else you'd have max everything and there would be less customization in builds beyond weapons.

If you just like to keep making progress, you can promote an infinite number of times and keep on going.

n7 rating is based on character training. Your N7 rating goes up by 19 when you increase a class from 1 to 20, and when you promote a player then you get another 11, meaning if you grow a class from level 1 and promote him, you will earn 30 n7 points. So the top player has a rating of over 32000 points, meaning he has promoted over 1066 classes, i'm still 650 promotions away, but am trying hard to catch up to him.

When you are in the lobby, a players information will keep changing, you will see his
1. n7 rating(training points),
2. his promotions for the class (how many times he has promoted that class and it has a circle icon )
3. challenge points.

The level that the character is on will always be displayed directly underneath the players name and it will be followed by the class name. This will never go past 20.
