I don't get the point why Duncan is for most playes best NPC.

I for myself liked Ban Teagen much more, i think he has a great personality and is very carismatic!

Wasn't especially fond of any of them really, liked Lel but her accent was bleh...

For Duncan with my chars so far they saw more or less a mentor out of him but that didn't last...

It's the beard, I think.

That said, my favorite non-party NPC is Dagna, the dwarf gal who wants to study magic. She is so enthusiastic, so prepared.

I didn't like Duncan. He does save your life, but it's for his own purposes. Other than that, he doesn't give the player a chance to know him. In the human noble introduction, for example, he promises that we can talk later, but it never happens even at Ostagar.

Personally I only think of Duncan as someone who's in charge of Ferelden's Grey Wardens, who happens to recruit me due to strange circumstances. So he's not my best NPC.

My best NPC so far is Loghain, because he is like a real villain. I liked his voice acting, especially the part in the Landsmeet where he goes "Ahhhhhhhhhh! There is the Grey Warden!", which was laced with sarcasm, insult, etc.

But I don't feel anything for Duncan other than the default respect for being a leader. They didn't flesh out his character more before he died.

Bhelen grows on me, despite playing the dwarf noble. He is a magnificent bastard.

Never really got attached to bann Teagan. Always though of him as boinking his brothers wife behind his back due to rumors. He isn't that charismatic either.

I personally really like Daveth Jorey, Teagan, Ser Perth, the head templar guy in Lothering, Flemeth, Jowan, Niall, Bhelen, and Eamonn.

Wasn't too impressed with Duncan, but then he has a beard (which in RP terms means that he's a beardy player and therefore a min/maxing ****!).

My female elf really was quite nasty with Duncan given her suspicion of humans but you do get some dialog with him where you find out he tried to recruit your mother.

Jory? Really? He is more whiny than Allister and you don't see him but for a fraction of the time.

Many people like Duncan, because many people read the Dragon Age- books.

Duncan is besides Loghain the only surviving Book-Main-Protagonist, and the latter became now a real jerk.

Hoping that returning to Ostagar features it.

I think it is his armour to be honest with you. He's there all shiny and fancy when you first see him.

I agree about Ser Jory.  However, I would disagree with the time length bit.  You know Daeveth only slightly better than Jory and he's about ten times as interesting to talk to.

Poor guy, I almost felt like he would be a bro.

I love Duncan for killing Jory. I also love him for getting me away from those idiots at the Circle that wanted to punish me after I was FORCED to follow Jowan's stupid as **** plan.

I did like Daveth and was upset when he died at the ritual. I also liked Jowan on my first play through. Even though I knew he had a grey background he was willing to atone for it.

I also liked Daveth. I actually would have preferred him to Zevran in my party.

Jory on the other hand was very odd. He looks so cartoonish and out of place.

Yes, really.  I think he's an interesting and realistic character, and consider Daveth and Jorey as a pair.  I think Morrigan is whiny, hypocritical and annoying yet apparently lots of people like her, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I suppose.

It's the beard. Duncan's beard is the true main character of Dragon Age.

It really must be the beard, there's no way everybody who likes Duncan has read the books. The books do add a lot of depth to Loghain and Duncan though so it's hard to discuss this without establishing which sources should be considered.

Heh. Jory annoyed me in the Wilds enough that I'd have sent him back with the wounded soldier - without hesitation.

His doubt and lack of committment endangered the "mission" in my eyes that much.
