Basically, in the very first conversation with Liara, she asks if I still want to pursue a thing with her or not. I'm a little vexed by this because I don't even know all of the romance options yet, and it is just thrown at me right away.
My question is, does my answer to her in the first conversation have any concrete effects? Will I be able to pursue other options if I tell her I'm interested? Will I be able to pursue her later if I tell her I'm not?
Just seems really early in the game to toss out that question and not have a middle ground option :/

I'd recommend saying yes to her, as you'll have the option of changing your mind later and choosing someone else.

If you say "no" that romance is closed (really dumb, I know). I kicked myself in the butt about it later b/c the Romances with former ME2 party members is really... Lackluster. Either way Liara turns into your BFF in a way that may or may not be silly to the player.

Saying yes in that conversation doesn't close off other romances.
