With all of the immense complexity of the variables in this series, the number of locations and the emotional investment we've established with the characters, worlds and species, I think the only kind of ending/epilogue that would satisfy people (myself included) is one in which we're shown how our decisions made a colossal impact upon the galaxy.

This type of epilogue is a hallmark of the Fallout series and can be found in all of the main games; they're also usually incredibly fulfilling and make you feel like you've made a legitimately huge impact on the setting. Here's all of the available epilogues for Fallout 3 as an example:

For each major faction and character, you're given different outcomes, images and narration based on your decisions in the game. You feel as though your decisions actually matter, and you're given a suitable emotional conclusion to both your relationships with NPCs and to quest lines. Compare that with what we got for ME3, and imagine we had something more akin to Fallout instead. I sincerely hope that BioWare decides to implement something like this in the future.

Anyone else who has played these games agree?

Well, the more people talk about their disappointment, the more Bioware should pay attention to us. Maybe they'll give us our satisfying ending/s. Here's a poll to vote for how you feel about it.

I've been a BioWare fan since the original Baldur's Gate and these endings shocked me in how thoughtless they are. I honestly think they quickly wrote some changes after the script leaks and ended up really dropping the ball. What impact did my choices have on Thessia, Palaven and Sur'Kesh? What happened to the Normandy crew and the rest of the surviving cast?

I never really thought I'd see the day when Fallout games have better, more satisfying storytelling than a BioWare game, but I think people have come to expect a Fallout-level of quality in their RPG storytelling, at least with regards to the endings of choice-driven narratives.

Ironically, as I'm sure most people here know, Fallout 3 originally had an ending that people felt was underwhelming (though for largely different reasons than ME3), and they patched it with DLC. That makes me very hopeful.

I agree. I don't see the need of a happy ending, as long as it feels like "your" ending, that is brought upon you due to your actions.
I would actually want an ending where the reaper wins! There could be two different outplays of that one,
1. Not enough Paragon/Renegade to defeat TIM. He kills you and he Reapers wipes everyone out.
2. TIM is defeated, but not enough war assets remain, and in the McGuffin/Crucible fails. The galaxy is wiped out.

I'm hopeful about it too, and I'm not gonna give up until they acknowledge us and hopefully make downloadable content giving us better endings, happier endings hopefully, and showing the impact of our decisions.

Mass Effect is all about decisions, so why would the endings/epilogue not reflect the choices you've made all throughout the series? It's incredibly disheartening, especially when other games (some over a decade old!) have done it so much better. The variables involved aren't any more complex than what they've already been integrating from game to game so far anyway, they'd just have to put together a few dozen short pre-rendered scenes and string them together based on which variables are active in the save game.

And yeah, I was also disappointed that there isn't a "Reapers win" ending.

I would like an epilouge too. Like, what happened to the Krogans? Did they start a new war, or did they become more peaceful?

Honestly, I don't really need an ending with the LI's. Didn't have one through all the games (unless for achievement).

It just ticks me off that your actions really don't matter and that you just get to choose your ending.

Epilogue downloadable content sounds like a good possiblity. Showing that your choices do have an impact, and for the ones who want a happy ending, it would show you end up with your love interest or something along those lines.

I support this 100%!!!! I did every single side quest possible and did everything in my power to strengthen alliances to take back earth, with the simple hope of rescuing Jack(my LI) who I never get to see much in the rest of the game and then...... these endings happened. My jaw dropped, unhinged by catastrophic fail.

If new epilogues were added to the end of the game we wouldn't necessarily need drastically altered endings. Although the Normandy/mass-relays-ALWAYS-destoyed stuff is kind of bad too, IMO.

The epilogues should be about Shepard and the consequences pf her/his actions. Not a grandpa and grandkid walking around. I expected him to start talking about what happened after the war, in a fallout style, Images with text and some guy reading it out loud. But no, not even that.

The entire series has been about decisions and their ramifications, but this pretty much makes everything null and void. The more I think about it the more disappointed I become. We not only need DLC for epilogues (which is pretty much a must, I think), we need DLC to fix the last fifteen minutes of the game.

if we don't get a 'happy ending' or the chance for one at least- this would be just perfect and fine for me. i always enjoyed the epilogues of fallout. they actually showed that your actions mattered.

I think it's also the huge possibility that we'll never get the answers we want regarding characters, species and worlds that makes this all so maddening. If this wasn't the end of Shepard's story, and we got to explore this universe in ME4, people would be disappointed but probably not livid.
