Good Stuff
1. Tales of Graphical and texture ineptitude appear to have been greatly exaggerated. (unless you've played Elder Scrolls). Someone put up a profile config for the NVidia Inspector app in another thread which I'm using and the game looks better than any ME title to date.
2. My fears of looking like a draugr in-game, fostered by the difference between what I designed in the demo's face creator and what I got, were unfounded. Not only does my FemShep not look like a skeleton, she's looking like she stole Miranda's booty! And otherwise like a healthy in shape woman. I imported her from ME2, where she was imported from ME1, and while in ME2, used face code from ME Universe or whatever and an editor to get the messy haircut, and in ME3, she looks even more beautiful than she did in ME2. The only thing that changed is her eyes don't glow anymore, and she's got a different haircut. Her look persists through both cinematics and real game action, and in all lighting.
3. Vanguards can not only tell one end of a sniper rifle from the other, they can actually shoot people with them! BAAAAM!!!
4. Although there aren't as many dialogue choices as previous games, they aren't so scarce that the game feels totally passive. And the interrupts appear well placed and not spammed.
5. Bioware DID listen to us over the last few games and tried to find common ground in many areas. The return of elevators. The return of weapons slots and mods. Both refined, both very welcome and appreciated. As was the refinement on each. The Normandy is clearly a mesh of the two previous versions with the expanded hangar, relocated arrmory and return of the on-ship vendor. Very nice!
6. The new powers rock. Nova and Carnage are insane. Headshots look like they should. Which is to say just like in Unreal Tournament (mods please incorporate a grim and evil "Headshot!" declaration to complete the circle.
7. Although I still roll entirely too much, it is far less of an absurdity and saboteur in the full game - especially when outdoors.
8. The cover items are much better thought out and seamless within the terrain. Though the bar wasn't exactly sky high.
9. Bravo on the envrionments, which are far closer to ME1 and what rural planets should look like, as opposed to planets on the edge of the galaxy that somehow come "this" close to having "coincidental" man-made cobblestone pathways.
10. The game has been smooth so far, with an engaging story and without obvious plotholes to someone who is not examining it through an electron microscope, a year removed from the story. It's well paced, and very well balanced.
Not So Good Stuff
1. The unholiness that is a Best Buy distribution channel.
2. Everyone still runs like a Yeti. You really could have just returned the ME1 movement styles Bioware - I can't see such monumental changes in the character skeletons that the old movement scripts and files would have the new characters spider walking like Regan in The Exorcist. Although that would be cool too. Mods!
3. Hair options are "un-how". No that is not a made up word, it is a technical term. For failure.
4. The jump function should have been on its own key - not integrated so that Shepard jumps over crevasses automatically. That would have allowed for the hidden benefit of allowing her to actually jump up a 3' tall rock face without having to climb and butt slide like a toddler on a jungle gym. It's embarrassing.
5. Stooge Mode should never have been included. Telling me every single cover point I need to run to in order to avoid a turret is the graphical equivalent of a Dummies book read in the front seat of the Short Bus. Let us figure these things out. It's not Chinese arithmetic.
6. I was dating Liara for both of the previous games. In the one I imported though, I don't believe I had gone through Lair of the Shadow Broker yet (I'll have to look again). In this game there's not much clue we are in love except FemShep touching her face when speaking of "loved ones". Is this on purpose?
Really that's all I can think of so far, as early into it as I am, and this mind you is only for the SP game. I don't multiplayer with others when I can't even get past the first counter in the MP demo on Normal without getting killed.
Comments welcome (except "tldr")
