One of the last things I did before I got the black screen was scan planets, and I got the 10/10 needed for the Lost and Found achievement but never got it. Meanwhile, before the same glitch occurred in my boyfriend's ME2 save, he had gone over the necessary Overload uses needed for the achievement but it hadn't clicked.

Could this have something to do with it?

^^ maybe. The .gpd file which gets corrupt and causes this to occur does get modified when you get achievements, among other things. At some point this file synchronizes with Xbox Live servers which is how you can redownload your profile and get offline achievements. Hopefully when a fix is released there will be some patch notes on what the causes were.

Prevention patch yes....I've a feeling though they'll have to repair each broken gamer tag on their end....I'm probably wrong though

Too early to say but when I think about it, it could also be the cause of the "achievement progress reset" bug  experienced by some 360 players:

If this is true then it sounds like they have multiple things messing the file up in different ways, and depending on what those ways are it could be a simple fix or a complicated one. Also, the fix is going to depend on how they can get the bad .gpd off your system AND off of the Xbox Live servers.

I still wanna know if they will be giving me the two packs from Multiplayer, since I can't access them because of this. (Killing 1 million brutes and beating Reapers on Silver)

Also, I'm REALLY tempted to just return mass effect 3 and get ORC instead until they fix this. Only thing stopping me, is that i'd bought the ME3 collector's edition, and I'm not sure how returns work with those when I'd used all the codes that came with it.

You know, looking through this thread, also like Resante mentioned our camaraderie.  It does feel like Day 1 again for us in this damn boat LOL. 

Everyone here is getting along so well! because of a game-breaking GLITCH LOL .

Nope, you won't find any bickering about the ending here! no arguments about DLC, or story at all!  I feel like adding everyone here to my friends list, BSN and XBL.  Maybe we should start doing that if we haven't yet.  Lol.  

Then when we can actaully get past the "PRESS START" we can celebrate like launch day again, WOOOO!!!!  =D

Yep, because the copy of the .gpd that I got from redownloading my profile freezes up too. I redownloaded my profile a second time, got offline, tested ME3 and it froze like it always does. I looked at the profile and it is not the same version of the file that ME3 recreated when I deleted the .gpd during my initial testing. The one MS had is much larger than the initial version, like 400 KB for the version from MS vs 36 KB for the fresh one that ME3 created. So yes they will need MS help unless Live is getting the .gpd from EA on demand when you download the profile (highly unlikely IMO).

I don't know if EA / BW has a way to edit the file prior to the game attempting to utilize it. The game uses the file as soon as it loads, so I don't see how they could use it by just fixing their servers. I think it will come down to a normal MS patch because you have to fix the file before the game even attempts to connect to EA servers.

Of course I could be, and hopefully am, completely wrong about all this and we get a fix tonight.

At this point I just want to finish the game. I have stayed away from details so I don't know what the endings are but so far the game has been epic. I have played plenty of games with terrible endings but I just don't see how a Mass Effect game could have an ending as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

I have heard of those programs you mentioned when you discovered it. Modio, USB XTAF, or Horizon. I just don't wanna risk screwing up my profile. So I leave em alone.

Hi EG Resenate has a workaround for playing offline single player if you are comfertable with doing it.

Otherwise just contact EA so they know how many people this is affecting but DON'T do any suggestions they have in that they won't do anything and are a waste of your time.

Yes yes, I know my older posts were full of rage, but thanks to the progress and help by Ryan warden  and Thomas Abram, I'm feeling better.  I am actually a meditative guy in real life.  It's why Thane is my fav character

Thanks. In real life, I am in fact a Buddhist, and martial artist since I was younger.

There's other reasons I can relate to Thane since I played ME2, but if I got into that I would really bring this board down, as its a real downer, or flat out depressing... lol.

But years later, I truly am at peace, and moved on in my life..
I shall return to my meditations.

Could be part of the problem, the mission I was on to rescue the krogan female had me destroy the Atlas mech dropped from orbit and I got the achievement, then went to the normandy talked to 2 people then game froze.

I'm down to play with some of the people here (when/if we ever can haha) GT: TheGovNa real name: John (everyone on my friends list I know by first name, seems nicer than calling people by their tag, plus I know them all in the offline world too so calling my buddy by their tag would be kinda weird to me too)

Compensation for N7 Challenge Weekend - Operation: Goliath

Dozens of your customers are unable to play your game due to a game-breaking bug that causes the game to freeze at the "press start" screen.  Because of this glitch we are unable to play the game and therefore are unable to participate in this weekend's N7 Operation Goliath challenge and reap the rewards. 

This is no fault of our own and we should not be punished because of a faulty product.  I ask that those of us that are suffering please either be given another opportunity to participate in this challenge shortly after the issue has been resolved or be given the rewards as compensation for the gameplay time that was lost due to this bug.

Oh hey, a revised list. Cool, thanks. It certainly has been funny being part of this thread. It will be bittersweet when they finally fix this. We won't be complaining together anymore! and then I won't see you guys again. Its like graduating all over again!

Although it would be fun to see if we can create a multiplayer group for those who suffered through the Black Screen of '12.

And to the new sufferers, welcome! Sorry to hear about your problems, but you've come to the right place. Keep it clean, and no harshing Bioware reps or the folks over at the Academy thread(they're suffering too)

I did the almost exact same thing when the glitch occured!  Just beat the Sur'kesh mission, talked to a few people on the ship, saved, went to multiplayer, game froze on loading screen, restarted, then the game froze right before the "press start" screen.
