AWW man you had me all excited for a minute there, I went into my avatar items too and found several currupted avatar items too and come to think of it I  think I unlocked an avatar award the last time I was playing before I turned off the game and lost the ability to play

(fyi i deleted the avatar items it froze, then i deleted my profile only and recovered it and it froze again so deteting the items is a good idea but not gonna get the game working, ****bioware take note I think I may have with Tombstone's help stumbled upon a possible root to the cause of the glitch****)

Last thing I did before I was unable to play (slight spoilers) was I rescued the female Krogran from the salarian homeworld. I got back on the normandy and I started interviewing all the crew members again, first the Turian general then Wrex. I didn't even get to teh security check point to leave the war room and i saved and quit and ever since I've been locked out.

Thought sharing what we all did the last time we actually got to play might help bioware track down how this glitch is happening and fix it for us faster so please share your experience

It's not hard to track down whatever the code says after the picture of earth but before the start screen is the problem as to what caused the problem could be anything.The game has to ask for something from your gamertag after the earth screen what only bioware knows

Same.  I had just rescued the female Krogan, resumed the conference, then immediately saved and quit.  Later I tried to start multiplayer when the game froze on a loading screen.  When I restarted my Xbox froze right before the title screen.

So after playing ME3 (normal edition) for a staggering 3+ hours I now also have the black screen
issue. From the get go ME3 was struggling. After the first hour or so the game started to freeze regularly. In about 3 hours of playing the game it froze 20 times. It would freeze during cut scenes, hectic combat or just walking around. Thinking it might be my aging standard Xbox 360 (service date 28-2-2008) I tried ME2.

 I played ME2 for about 30 hours or so and it only froze one time (even with film grain on and holstering my weapon numerous times).  I then deleted and reinstalled the disc from my HDD, did not make a difference, played directly from disc, did not make a difference, deleted Avatar award, also did nothing. But at least I could play, although barely.

Then I got the message that my 3 month Xbox Live Gold membership had expired so I reverted to a Silver
membership. From that moment on I got the black screen at startup. So I looked through this forum and trying a few solutions but nothing worked.

Then I tried starting ME3 from Disc 2 and for some reason I got past the black screen and into the startup screen. But unfortunately when I tried to resume the game or start a new game, and after I put Disc 1 in, ME3 still would freeze after 15 seconds into the loading screen.

I hope this info can help find a cure for the black screen. It seems only humans are affected by it for some reason.

I've had some of the 'failed to load' bug throughout my playthrough but a console reset always allowed me to pick it back up.  Theres also a lot of other general 'fail to load', especially in regards to outfitting your armor.


Sometimes I can simply press and hold my xbox guide button to bring up the 'turn off console/controller' menu, and then press the b button to back out of it, and it will cause what I'm trying to load to come up several seconds later.  About half the time, I have to reset the console.  (It has happened atleast 17 times that I counted)

I've never played a game that had such a viscious bug that was so prevalent.  Every single one of my friends that play this game (except for one co-worker) has experienced this 'fail to load' to varying degrees.  A few only had it happen once or twice, so it wasnt that big of a deal for them.  (This is a few dozen people). 

I'm just about to finish the campaign, and all the freezing and load fail has been a hassle but now I'm dreading everytime it happens afraid its going to be a lock out.

How in the heck did this bug make it past QA?

Now I'm not sure if I have a variation of this problem or a different problem entirely. Similarly I was 18hrs in and everything was fine until I tried to load the next day and it would freeze or tell me loading failed. Everything else was fine. I tried all the solutions suggested for about five hours and now I can only play, under any profile, if memory cache is cleared, which uninstalls the update and logs me out of xbox live. If I install the update at any point I get black screen freeze. So I can play singleplayer under my own profile as long as I don't ever update, but I cant play multiplayer.

I'm not sure if its the same thing but it must be related??

Finally I can post on the forum! I've been pulling the hair out of my head for the last week. I have been getting this same damn black screen of death since last Thursday (3/8), about 3 days after the game came out. I have been writing the gaming blogs about this in hopes that they can shed some light on the subject and posting godof360's video everywhere I can. This is beyond frustrating, never had a game completely block me out from playing it before, not even Skyrim's bugs did that. I saw that they're working on a patch which is good news but is there any word on some sort of compensation for the people that bought the game but have barely played it due the black screen at start up? Some free DLC would be nice, and I'm not talking about avatar awards or themes. I mean future expansion or something. Any news on that? That would be a great sign of support for the ME universe faithful who have been standing by during this gaming debacle. Right now I'm really wondering if I will ever buy another EA game. BF3 was f'ed up right out of the gate as well. I really wish Bioware had gone to another developer.

 I just got this issue yesterday. Game will freeze when the profile signs in. I only need 3 more achievements and just got 4000/5000 kills, bummer. I was on Thessia when the game crashed on a loading screen. I hope the wait is not too long. I'm playing on a newly created offline profile cause I can't get Mass Effect out of my head.

That sounds like the bad disc bug mate I could be wrong.  With the gamertag bug you aren't getting to the start screen on your profile no matter what you do.  If you go to the start sceen on a different profile and try to load up yours, it freezes

Bad disc bug? As in the copy of my game is dodgy? But its installed and worked fine for hours with no problems, and it plays now with no problems, but it doesnt load at all if updated. It worked fine with the update for 18hrs which makes me think its somehow linked to signing in to xbox live?

Didn't have any corrupted avatar items. The dlc corrupted so I deleted and reinstalled. Removed my save on USB, same problem. Same problem with or without dlc, installed game or straight off the disk.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION: I DELETED THE DLC with the Prothean dude, and now it work??
Not saying dirty disc anymore.......it was the damn DLC i paid for..
Now i redownload it to see if it will work somehow..if not..well ill have paid 800 MS points uUSELESSLY thank you Bioware

OH my GOD!! it working, now, it feel almost too good to be true. I deleted the DLC , redownloaded it, and EVERYTHING work back to normal. must had been my DLC that got corrupted somehow

Yeah the dirty disc error you delete corrupted dlc.  

The gamertag bug is something else sadly

Yeah but I deleted it and it still didn't work. Reinstalled it and still didn't work. 

Is there a problem with the update? I can't find evidence of that but it seems relevant to me because when that is installed I get a black loading screen freeze but without it game loads fine.

follow up, I posted on the mass effect 3 facebook asking when this will be patched and they asked me how long I have been having the problem so I explained what the problem relates to and linked the video Godof360 made so hopefully it gets the word out more and gets fixed soon.

I'm having this problem too. Mine started oh, two days ago. But I got fairly far; just past the traditional romance scene with the LI before the screen went black completely. Now nothing works.
Also, oddly enough my gamertag works for the datapad app, just not my 360.
