I'm on a mac as well... It's kind of ridiculous that they make you essentially destroy your setup at home to fix something they broke and haven't fixed yet...

I've had the game for a month or two and finished singleplayer weeks ago.

For the last week or two I have been enjoying multiplayer on Xbox 360, but today I got the black/blank screen after the Bioware logo (and Earth loading image). Just before this started happening the batteries on my controller ran out before the menu appeared successfully the last time (although this might be a coincidence).

So yeah... did a Google search and found all this info about this problem still not being fixed which seems incredible to me. Are there any steps I can take or will I just have to wait for a fix? I don't really want to do the DIY fix because I don't see why I should have to, but also because I don't have a Windows PC.

Does this ridiculous sounding "home fix" actually fix the game? It sounds like the multiplayer will be broken still from what I've read.

Your achievement progress for anything that has a counter (kills, levels played on insanity, etc) gets reset, but Single Player saves work and Multiplayer is exactly as before since all MP info is stored on Bioware servers.

***What I don't get is how the DIY fix is a fix at all if you're interested in Multiplayer. From the reading up on it that I have done, it appears that logging in to the play MP would re-break the game....*** (Edit below)

I'm just astounded that this has gone on for so long for so many people. I was hit by this crap about a month ago. I chalked it up to an aging xbox and was looking to fix that.

I'm rather pissed that I wiped out my xbox twice, reconfigured my home network, exchanged consoles, and spent hours on the phone/chatting online with EA and Microsoft only to find that this issue was created by the buffoons telling me to run the Troubleshoot-marathon...

Game breaking bug for what accounts for at least 1/3 of your player base isn't addressed, fixing the ending for internet-whinners is on their To-Do list?

I'm sorry... but what the crap is that? I've seen this happen with smaller firms (i.e S2 games and their title of Heroes of Newerth, broken Mac client for nearly 6 months)...

But really? Bioware? EA? come on...

*** Edit Ok, so the MP works. but this is still a work around that needs to be done on part of the user that still seams to leave you with a ticking-time bomb.

Also, is this possible with a Mac? Or Linux?

You're right, the game is a ticking time bomb for everyone who plays on Xbox, regardless of whether or not you've done the fix... I've had to do it twice. New players are still getting the black screen of death. Not aware of any Linux or Mac profile editors but who knows, might be out there.

Well, thankfully I have a virtual windows machine setup, so I may be able to do this.

Thank you your help, Resante. Though none of it was directed toward me personally, it's great to see a guy that knows what he's doing helping others like this.

*Edit* Does doing this fix fall under the Modding-umbrella? It'd be pretty funny (not so much of a "haha" funny) if people get banned for making a game playable

I don't think it will result in bans since we are just fixing the game so that we can play it. The only thing the fix does to the game is it resets the achivment progress which hurts us, doesn't give us any kind of an advantage over other gamers. Also bioware does know of the fix, but I don't think we should advertise the fix on other sites just to be safe.

Hey Vermonster, FreezeGodzilla, et al, have you tried the fix yet? If not, you should try it! Just follow the steps in the group, and it's easy! Better than waiting for an official fix which may never come, right?

I would do this except I'm on a Mac so unless someone has a program that edits GT's that works on OSX this is not an option for me.

No mod tools for osx trust me I have one too I checked.

Actually building a pc soon, pretty excited about that....still won't be playing this broken game though, really just too annoyed with it to enjoy if you know what I mean.

Very easy to do, provided you can actually read instructions.

You should keep a photo blog of your progress.  It would be hillarious if the fix finally came out and you looked like "Gandalf: The Early Years."

I've run 100km since I black screened and I'll likely run 100 more.

448 fix kit downloads since I started the counter (so it's actually a bunch more than that).

I can't believe that they STILL haven't fixed it. I bet they are concentrating more on DLC to get more money... oh and the extended ending that I don't really give a crap about anymore. OK, I know bugs happen... but to not have a hotfix kicked out in the first week that this was discovered is amazingly stupid on Bioware's part.

Basically they have just ruined all the good credibility that they have gained as a development studio. You heard the straw that broke the camel's back... this is the game that broke the devs cred.

Forget the ending controversy... a bug that stops you even reaching the main menu should have been fixed within 24 hours and a hotfix rushed out. Other companies have done it so why can't Bioware. I'm just gobsmacked... hell, Resante did half the job for them in tracking down the cause of the lockup.

I guarantee they have not actually put in an hour's worth of work into fixing this issue.

A community member made a fix so why should they put in any time, effort, and money into putting out a legitimate patch?

yeah two months for a game breaking glitch is ridiculous. I also don't believe they have put much time into an actual fix.
First they have an on launch DLC,
then they have a horrible ending that makes it feel like wut ever u chose the you will see the same thing and nothing will change.
Then they have this game breaking glitch which they seem like they don't put any effort into fixing, and they never give any real updates on a fix.
Then they make a patch that causes problems with connecting to EA servers which is making even more people unable to play the game.
so they have lost all of my respect for them as a development studio

(Beards scratches) the way I see it I'd love to play me3. But its at the point where it working would be better. I can deal with a ****ty ending have seen a few I'm my day... But if it hit this summer and it still aint fixed I done I won't care anymore bioware cuz then ur just like infinity ward. But I'm off 2 play sniper elite V2. Atleast assassinating adolf hitler might satisfy me for awhile.
