It pains me to say it but i think that every game like ME should strip story control away from the player on the last installment.
Agreed as there was way too much self-projection going on which is not what they were going for ever! It shouldn't upset you at all.
My view since I've been exposed to the general consensus: (and I haven't played he game yet)
I think the damage has been done. That being waiting five years to "Release Control."
I bet we all realize how the Collector General in ME2 felt! If some didn't feel his anguish, they do now!
Talk about a real sick sense of humor, but no one's laughing!
I mean, we have the Council/Alliance, they betrayed us
The VS feels we betrayed him/her
If the squaddies in ME2 weren't loyal, that was a "betrayal"
TIM/Cerberus (sans Miranda/Jacob) betrayed us!
Notice how if so-and-so platoon is denied help for whatever reason - that's betrayal
The writers given the endings to ME3 or "our" Shepard in general - betrayed us!
Can any see what the theme is here?
That's the reason for all the angst, but how many read between the lines to see this is where it was going to end up?
However, I still don't think it is all that serious as its no worse than a "contrived/convoluted tv/movie plot." Yet, what's such in front of our eyes pales in comparison of that in our imaginations and that is something we do have control over!
If anything, it won't bother me now that I know what to expect going in and I'm gonna "Deal with it!"

P.S. I'm a 28 year old guy who has been in the military. I play the game as a soldier, not as someone whose priority is to romance someone.

All well and great. Loads of new players and loads of money for you hopefully. But just like in Dragon Age 2, you forgot one market. You know, the old faithful market that buy all your games, love all your games and really just wanted a decent ending to something we started playing 6 years ago, a decent face for Tali that shows some imagination, a reflection that our choices mattered and most importantly the conversation system we've been using for the whole series.
Seriously what were you thinking? "They are going to buy it regardless, we've got their money in the bank, lets concentrate on making money elsewhere"? Because thats what it seems like. Do this stuff on a new franchise by all means, but come off it, you don't even give us a decent ending? Or maybe you're planning on selling it to us later? It's bad business and people will stop buying your stuff.
Wake up and smell the coffee. The choices you made in ME1 barely ever mattered in ME2 either. Whether it was Ashley/Kaidan, Udina/Anderson, Rachni kill/save, or Council die/live ... Barely any of that mattered, you'd get a nod here and there, and it would change a line or two of dialogue maybe. But the universe remained mostly unchanged. Whether humanity was leading or the council stayed the same wasn't the game-changer the end of ME1 would have led us to believe.
It's like in Skyrim --- you can ally with the Stormcloaks or the Imperials, but the world runs just the same afterwards anyway.
Forget big world changing choices. These cannot happen unless they'd put massive work and budget on huge parts of the game that a majority of people might not even experience.
Like many of us, wake up and stop believing the hype. Enjoy these games if you can, for what they're worth, and don't expect more than has been demonstrated before --- or go play some tabletop RPGs, because those are the only ones where your choices actually MAKE the game.
Much as I love the CDP guys, The Witcher 2 was a much shorter experience than even ME2. The third chapter does have many possible outcomes, but it is not a sprawling RPG either. As well, you do not create any character, and the experience is a bit more streamlined in that sense, if you will. There are less variables involved in the production, even though the storyline (with its transparent and more realistic system of choices, unlike the more obvious and 'bipolar' basics of games like the recent TES and ME games) is tighter and better directed.
As well, the production values on TW2 may seem through the roof, but it was done on a much smaller budget than BW could do. I suspect that CDP's guys, while being a smaller team than EA's, are perfectly tailored for their jobs.
You can also count out the more obvious big expenses, such as the big name voice actors and the heavy marketing.
In the end, I still believe it would cost way too much money for EA to make something on the scale that we want --- which would involve massive changes to the ME universe depending on the choices carrying through all three games, a much larger roster of characters, changes in environment, etc. Which is why it's great to have smaller outfits like CDP who can do wonders with the smaller budgets and more concentrated efforts. They can afford to aim for a more hardcore base.
1.5 million sales wasn't bad, though. I'll give em that.

I am with you on this one, BUT there are things, that BioWare did very wrong in ME3. The worst is the requirement for MP to get the very best ending with all cutscenes and what not. I know they denied it, but we proved it, they lied. It just boggles my mind, that a BioWare RPG would require you to play online to see everything related to the story.
I can imagine a year or two from now, finding people to play with online to get the best ending, will be a sad experience.

But who would care to do that? For all that has been said, the three endings (including the best one) are not so differente from one another. Just go see the damm thing on you tube lol

Well, I disagree totally. I am the fanbase, and I LOVE Mass Effect 3! I like all the changes they have made. I feel the game is a lot more streamlined, combat is more enjoyable and the game just seems to be more polished. I don't like hte story so far, it's really quite depressing, but I suppose this is what ME1 and ME2 were all leading up to. I like the fact that they are catering for a wider variety of gamers with Action Mode and Story Mode. I think more games should do this.
There are a few issues, but certainly nothing to make me think the game is anything less than a 9/10. (I haven't finished the game yet. I created Alternate characters to see how the combat played out with different classes. I don't know why I did that *sigh*)
I hope we get DLC for years to come, but I know normally we just get about 4 new stories.

Dude. Untill yesterday i used to think just like you but then it hit me. Why the hell they changed everything we expected on the freaking LAST game to draw new players. It is sheed stupid. They enraged have the fan base and did not draw new players as far as i´m concerned. It was a stupid move.

Anyone who doesn't think like you do must immediately be inferior and wrong.
