The main reason why it came up in the first place is that the Vault hasn't been that alive and kicking anymore recently, and even though Maximus posted more again, there are some major points why some of us thought a Nexus site would be a good addition, mainly for the ease of use for both players and modders. It has some functionality the vault sadly can't compete with anymore. It's not meant as a replacement, and not as a direct competition (although competition can be healthy), but mainly an attempt to revive the community a bit again. It'd be sad if some people take it as an assault on the Vault and go into some kind of fight/boycott mode, I hope that won't happen.

I use the Nexus often, especially for DA material - however, for NWN material, I rely soley on the Vault, because I know where it is.
IF all of a sudden, those CCers from NWN started depositing their work (updates, etc) on Nexus, it would be very harmful to the Vault, of course. But there is another side effect that you obviously have not considered - and that is updates to currently available content, fixing bugs, etc. This would not be possible to really follow if one suddenly changed to Nexus, of course, because the continuity would be broken. Posting a link from the Vault to Nexus to allow for continuity (allowing those interested in the content to follow the creator to his new fixes, content, etc) would be paramount to a declaration of war on the Vault.
I sincerely doubt that you are advocating disparity here, but obviously you have not thought things through.

This is not about "competition", but about continuity.
Though if one started posting links from the Vault to Nexus (or vice versa), I think one goes over a rather vulgar line - it is like a slap in the face to the respective website.
For those who post on both, please, feel free to do so.

Perhaps you were absent for the discussion that led to the Nexus' creation. I'll attempt to summarise it. The Vault has been showing signs that concerned many of us. Many people have had their passwords reset unexpectedly, and were unable to recover it because the webmail form and password recovery system has not worked for many months. Many people are/were also unable to upload to the Vault or manage their work for the same reason. IGN has stated that there will be no further development done on the Vault, but that it will be maintained. Of course, they didn't say "forever".
Considering what happened with the old Bioware forums, establishing an additional place to upload our material is the wiser choice. Your continuity is in far less danger of being interrupted by the unlikely event of a builder forgetting to upload part of a series to the venue in which the series began, than by that venue simply ceasing to exist with no clear alternative in place.
Now, I'm glad we have your permission to upload our work in both places. Since your new argument seems to be simply against people who switch exclusive venues in the middle of a series, and since I join you in opposing that, I trust we have no further disagreement.

Personally I'd like to aplaud the creation of yet another NWN-files place of venue.
The vault has not only lately been overfilled with non-current/non-updated information.
Not saying that anything can ever replace the vast amoun of NWN-information avaliable there but just take a trip on their NWN1 PW game servers list and you'll see what I mean...(most listed there are inactive yes, and have been so for a long time).
Some of the HAK's can be hard to find because of confusing version naming by the same or different authors....
So...again...i'd like to aplaud Tchos for this attempt and hope it works out well...looks good so far me thinks....
Already a valuable NWN-asset apart from the vault.

A minor correction in a very agreeable post: The applause belongs to the Nexus crew, not to me. I'm just one of the players/builders who voiced support for its creation when I saw others here on BSN proposing it, and one who subsequently has been spreading the word of its availability. I have no affiliation with the Nexus other than uploading my mods there and posting in the forums.SuperFly_2000 wrote...

And, for the record, both sites clearly welcome the linking of external mirrors for the files uploaded there. On the Nexus, there's a tab on each file's page dedicated to external mirrors, where you can link to the Vault pages. Likewise, the Vault has a similar functionality, where you can specify a link to an external mirror (such as the Nexus) in the file upload form. If they didn't want people to link to other file locations, they would not have provided the explicit means to do so.

I know they both have external linking capabilities (though the clearly welcome part is something that I am doubtful of - have you asked the respective website owners about this?), however, I don't think that they had in mind that one use them just to connect to external websites that store the actual content - otherwise, there would clearly be no need to have The Vault or The Nexus, would there?
Now, to address this :
I thought I would give you the benefit of the doubt before criticising your unnecessarily condescending attitude toward others: calling people "naive", accusing them of "obviously not thinking things through," etc. I cordially suggest that you attempt to express your opinion without rudeness.
Ok, no problem with you calling me out here - except you then go on to do the same thing here
Now, I'm glad we have your permission to upload our work in both places. Since your new argument seems to be simply against people who switch exclusive venues in the middle of a series, and since I join you in opposing that, I trust we have no further disagreement.
Calling the kettle black, hmmm?
This has first of all, nothing to do with my permission - I am really no-one, and I certainly don't decide things for others. Second, it is not my "new position" as I have held it since posting here in my first post
And yes, I still hold (and seeing that you have not even tried to address this) that it is not a good thing to "break" continuity - having a parallel place to hold content is, however, a good idea as I have repeatedly stated (in other words, one should not abandon one in order to soley use another).
Also, the Nexus was around far longer than the "problems" that you have posted concerning The Vault. I have been using the Nexus since DA first came out - and that was far, far earlier than any "problems" that The Vault had.
So, as it seems that you do not really think things through to me (as I have posted in the above), therefore I posted accordingly. This is not meant to come across as an attack, etc - rather, I was pointing such out. I should of used a different form of communication, however, to express this.
My apology on that.
So, to sum things up :
I am in support of having parallel places to store content, as long as that does not break continuity of content. I, however, will not be using the Nexus for NWN content - I use it for DA content, and use The Vault for NWN content.
