Shortly in the mission Rannoch: Crash Site (Save the Admiral), the game will crash to desktop, everytime.  After the intial cutscene, the path leads to the right towards a sheer cliff, which curves around, to a short straight path that leads to another curve to the right. About halfway across this straight the game will freeze, and the generic Windows 7 crash/error message pops up (Mass Effect™ 3 has stopped working). Happens every single time, seemingly at the exact same spot.

Things I've tried:  loading the Restart Mission save, Restart Mission with different companions, loading a manual save from just before the mission. Setting visual settings all to as low as they get (game runs flawless for me at max settings), using task manager to close everything that wont crash my computer.

I'm at a loss here, any suggestions? Also is there a log file for this game? None of the usual spots seem to have one.

Basic Specs (DXDiag on request)
Win 7 x64
i7 2600k
16GB ram
Nvidia GTX 580
Realtek Optical Out (onboard sound)

Windows Error Details: (Contents appear the same with every crash)

Well buddy, you are not alone. I have been fighting with this error code for 2 days now. I just played a different game and caused the same C0000005 code in it. I looked through at least 2 dozen supposedly helpful threads and none of them got me anywhere close to resolve this. One thing for sure, it is not ME3 related. Windows is the whole problem. There is a repair tool that claims to fix this thing, but them crows want $100 bucks for it. We have a few things in common btw. I use Win7 64 bit with 16gb ram as well. As for the audio I am on the Realtek optical atm but I also have a 24bit soundblaster card that makes no difference. I am going to try the game on 32 bits and let you know.

My stuff:

Win7 64bit
AMD 8150 (8core) CPU
16gb (Vengeance) ram
Military class II 990FXA-GD80 Mainboard
Sapphire Radeon 6950 HD
Realtek optical / Sounblaster Audigy4 (oldschool baby!)

Steps taken so far:
1) updated all drivers
2) confirmed system integrity with diverse tools
3) reassured all hardware is installed and up to date
4) tried multiple save games (any other mission work anyway)
5) removed and added windows startup items
6) limited system services to the minimum
7) threw a pencil and punched the table top
8) altered Physx application
9) re-installed DirectX11
10) checked registry for unused or corrupted items/keys/strings/entries
11) checked and re-checked for viruses, malicious software etc.
12) stopped and closed all other programs
13) applied latest Windows update and patched everything to new
14) scratched my head in doubts and frustration
15) Started ME3 in admin mode
16) reproduced error code in Arma2, same text no results
17) checked game files and replaced (mission specific) suspicious ones
18) ran restoration utilities and confirmed system integrity (again)
19) altered memory allocation, maximized virtual memory

!20) Will try game in 32 bit mode (second windows 7 installation)!

I am currently unwilling to go through the installation process of origin and ME3 and wait till sometime next week....hope we can find a resolution soon, cuz otherwise we can't finish the game.... :P

Assuming we're talking about the same mission, you CAN skip it by doing the other mission available (the Fighter Base, or something like that) then afterwords whatever the one that follows. Of course skipping the admiral leads to, uh, less optimal story stuff. I was able to finish Rannoch this way, and haven't encountered any other errors yet, not that I've gotten far past.

$100 !? Yeah I'd be a little doubtful about that too. I'd like to see what causes you to think it's windows related. My own researches suggests that C0000005 is a kind of generic "Buffer Override" error code, suggesting that ME3 told the cpu to divide zero by a martian number or something. If it had been causing bsod or other windows apps to crash that would be telling, but I'm not seeing it. As for ARMA2 , I never had trouble running it on this machine, so I don't know what to say about that. I'm gonna reinstall it though just to be safe. More later I guess.

So far no success getting around the missions. You see, the one mission you mention I get the freeze just like you, then crash. The other mission I get the loading screen and the same crash. So I am stuck, literally. I will try the re-install. As for that code, it is windows based and you are correct it refers to the memory buffer. There is a lot of applications that cause this error code to appear. I guess I will play with my RAM modules. The weirdest thing is the crashes occur ALWAYS in the same spots. Very odd this. I am thinking maybe 16gb ram is too much, lol.

Well well, I have discovered that Windows 64bit is the whole problem. In 32 bit the sound is perfect as well, no crashes. I played both missions on Rannoch and had no problems what so ever in Win32bit. I played with the ram in 64bit and other settings in the hardware and nothing worked. 32BIT is the solution!

360 player here, and I kind of had the same, odd problem. I'm not sure if this is exactly the same as you guys are talking about, but right when the kodiak goes to save the admiral, and you get on the machine gun, I've had it freeze up on me as i start shooting (an odd freezing, like my controller is shaking as if i'm shooting, but I have to hard reset my console). here were the chain of events:

1. I did the mission for the first time, no problems

for some reason I had to redo the mission, can't remember why exactly but

2. I try to redo it, it freezes right as i start shooting the machine gun
3. reset, try to redo it again, freezes in the EXACT same spot
4. tried it again, and it seemed to work...one thing I DID make sure that I did was to wait a few seconds before I started shooting. No idea what caused it though, my only really glitchy part of the whole game

I have the same problem as previously described at the same point on the mission.

The game also crashes the same way always at the same point on the Rannoch: Geth Base mission.

I have also Win7 64-bit. Is there a solution for this problem?
