For the record I'd side with the Geth in a hearbeat. But I think that the Quarians getting wiped out and Tali killing herself because of it is over-dramatic and pointless.

You need to get "5 diplomatic points out of the 7" if we call them like that.
+2 Tali Loyalty Mission done, Exonerated Tali (else it's 0)
+2 Legion Loyalty Mission Done, Destroy Heretics (rewriting give 0)
+1 Talked Legion and Tali down with a P/R check
+1 Rescued Admiral Koris instead of the Quarian Troops (N7 Mission in ME 3 during the plot)
+1 Legion's Mission ME 3.
Do I need to follow them up with conversation or what?
I don't understand at all. This is my first frustrating moment in the game so far.
You also need high reputation from what i've heard.
@ 4 Bars of Paragon the dialog options were closed
@ 5 Bars of Paragon the dialog options were opened.
At first I decided to side with the Geth, then I saw Tali's suicide scene and nearly stopped playing ME3. Went back to a prior save once I found out the ONE sidequest I didnt do would keep Tali alive.
Tali helped me kill Saren and Soverign. Tali helped me kill the Human-Reaper Larva and destroy the collectors base. And now i need her in my final squad to defeat whoever the final boss is.

I'm like 1/8 of an inch from 5 Paragon bars. It's gonna suck hunting down ways to raise it.

Nobody felt that the Quarians (Or at least Heavy Fleet) deserved to die for their sins? Throughout the series, the majority of them have just been jerks. Tactically inept jerks. The only person I feel bad about losing was Korin. And maybe Tali.
...On second thought, I don't feel bad about Tali. But definitely Korin. Even though he was a jerk in 2.
... ...Actually, all Quarians are just jerks.
Edit: Well, I mean besides Arlionis. QUARIANS ARE JERKS FOR LIFE.
Wait, so, genocide against a species is justifiable if a couple of them are jerks?
I could argue that we should just kill all humans if that's the case.

Sigh... so the option appears with the Upload the code/Kill the Geth part? I've got Paragon and Renegade options after siding with the Geth but it looks like they don't do a damn thing.

I just spent some hours doing random "sidequests" on the Citadel untill I went and attempted this a 3rd time. Isnt really that hard with an imported ME2 char (dont remember if you get Morality boost or not like in ME2 but im pretty sure you do)

Who ever wrote that bit in ME3 is a
moron. You should be able to reunite them. Have the Geth and the
Quarians work together. Instead, like nearly all the "choices" in ME3,
they just toss random crap out.
But........ you can? If you pull the right strings, they -do- work together. Quarians return to their planet, geth *DRASTICALLY* help them rebuild and readapt. And there's almost total peace.

You can get both fleets by uploading the code and then if your paragon level is high enough when the code is all most complete you order the Quarians to pull back

Pretty much. And (this makes it more difficult but it's still doable) if you rewrote the heretics in ME2, you get -even more- assets with the geth. Like I said, it maxed my bar after I did it o.-;

(1) You had to have done Tali's loyalty mission in ME2
(2) I've heard it helps (meaning you don't have to do 3 or 4) if you destroyed the geth heretics in 2. But if you didn't, it's okay--you'll actually receive more geth units
(3) You had to have saved the admiral that was stranded
(4) You had to have destroyed the geth fighters in Tronland (It doesn't matter if you recruited the geth after this--no adverse effects)
(5) You need to have a high reputation

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else sided with the Geth, and how they felt about the outcome. I ask mostly because I know that a bunch of people prefer the Quarians over the Geth.
I originally sided with the Geth, since I felt since the Tali conversations with ME1 than they had sort of drawn the short end of the stick in their creation. My only concern was of the Reaper Code, but I felt that I should risk it if for no other reason then to give the Geth a chance. My thoughts as I watched this scene unfold.
"This will be painful, the Quarians will be annoyed at me, but they'll have to back off when....
Oh man, I can't tell them to run....
They aren't that stupid they HAVE to back off, I'm just going to lose the Heavy Fleet, right?
Oh, this is bad. Tali is never going to for- PARAGON BUTTON, PARAGON BUTTON!!!!"
Tali, FYI, has always been my favorite ME character.
The string of explicatives that followed had my roommates convinced I must have dropped one my free-weights on my foot. But I stuck with it after seeing the quarian option.

The option isn't 'Genocide Quarians or don't genocide Quarians'. It's 'Genocide Quarians or genocide the Geth'.
The Geth have been nothing but nice to me, barring the heretics (Very small minority) and the mind controlled Geth who were forced to accept the Reaper's help specifically because of the Quarians. The Quarians have been nothing but jerks the entire time, and the Geth problem is their fault in the first place.
Also, look at it this way: Every time the Quarians and Geth fight, the Quarians lose badly. You're gathering an army to fight the Reapers. Since the Geth are significantly more powerful than the Quarians...
But if there was an option for Shepard to betray the Alliance and join up with the Reapers (In exchange for becoming the dominate personality of the Human Reaper or something), I would totally take that option. Screw humans, too. The only good one is Anderson.
