Yeah, I got frustrated by Mordin in that mission too. Why Mordin? We had agreed the Genophage had to be done for the good of the galaxy. Why did you have a total turnaround? Why did you force my Shep to pull the trigger on you? She felt absolutely horrible having to do that.
At the point where Mordin had agreed with your Shep, the Reapers weren't attacking en masse. WIth the Reapers attacking at such a rate, any means to gain resistence would be necessary, meaning the curing of the genophage if it lead to the Krogans joining the fight.

Mordin was always struggling with it. He knew it was best. But his feelings questioned that. The Elite Elite wrote...

Without a doubt this is the best part of ME3 especially if you played as a paragon. Let me explain why.
In ME1 you had Wrex, who explained in great detail why the genophage was wrong and how the future of the Krogan race was at stake. In ME2 you got Mordin who explained the reasons behind genophage. You got both sides of the story by two very likeable character and you also had the chance to see the ruined Krogan homeworld and got all the necessary background info to understand its importance and the possible risks of curing them.
In ME3 they raised the stakes. Your principles, friendships, the future of the Krogan, the future of the entire galaxy (getting the salarian help) were put on the line. Even the small details were perfectly put together to build up the pressure. Mordin’s obsession, Wrex’s devotion, hell, even the Krogan female asked you multiple times if there was anything wrong.
And the slow-motion renegade cutscene...perfect.
As you can guess I shot Mordin, and after watching his death scene I felt devastated, empty. I betrayed everything I believed in for the „big picture”. It was epic, thats what I call 10/10 scoring.
I also shot Mordin on my main Shepard and I completely agree with you. As if it wasn't painful enough to listen to Wrex + Eve talking about the future of the Krogan, I thought at least Mordin would go along with the plan. Nope! I had no idea what I was going to do after his emotional breakdown. I went along with it hoping he'd back down and before I knew it I was shooting him in the back. I've done some pretty evil things in video games but nothing has ever made me feel like such a scumbag as this did. I think a part of my soul died watching Mordin crawl towards the computer.
"No, not yet. Not yet..."

BioWare just had to reprise the song "Vigil" to cap it off.

Argh, that got me too. The song that used to symbolize the beautiful unknown suddenly became his death knell.
I shot him as well. It was horrible, heart-breaking, and sad... But incredibly done. I like how they played it just well enough that both sides can feel justified and not necessarily evil. That you could look at the Renegade option as stop a former friend who's lost it, and it tears you up. I wasnt carrying a pistol in game at the time so Shep pulled a "default model". I don't know if this happens if you're actually carrying one ingame, but Shep throws the pistol away in sadness and disgust.
The conversation with Joker and Garrus only compounds the emotions.
This was true BioWare. We need more of it.
(And yes, if Wrex is dead and maybe even Eve you can talk Mordin out of it.

I shot him, too, with my Renegon... Both outcomes are very moving, and there are a few scenes after that betrayal with Eve and with Garrus back on the Normandy that really rub it in while making you worry you'll be discovered. Will you shoot your own friend in the back to secure the allegience of the Salarians? Truly, one of the best-written moments of this or any game.
