So I unlocked this in multiplayer recently and this weapon is a beast. I also have the widow but this blows it out of the water. It can fire 3 shots before a reload and drops most everything (cept the bigger guys) in 2 hits depending on class build. It can also fire through the balistic shields the guardians carry!

I usually get around 50-60k points a match thanks to this gun!

A few downsides though.

Its very heavy. It will usually take half of your weapon weight limit.
It does not have a lot of ammo 15 shots I believe without mods.
Upgrading it will be a pin in the ass. I only ever pulled 2 N-7 Ultra rares (They are black cards instead of gold)
Like all snipers hitting fast moving targets close to you can be very difficult.

Regardless I was very happy when this popped and is my go to weapon for a lot of the classes I play.

If you want to play a round with me send a message to StormbringerGT on Xbox Live!

I'd trade ya one if I could KoramaFox. I almost never use it, more likely to pull my Paladin for headshots and mail slots.

The only sniper rifle I still don't have. I have the other N7 one, the Javelin, the delay between firing and the bullet is half a second and it doesn't knock off as much as the widow imo. Looking forwards to the black widow.

Black widow is good, but the Widow is also great. Widow can knock down a Prime's armour from full - 2 Bars left in 1 shot, it takes 3 for the Black Widow to take it to half (That's with level 1 Black Widow though, would be different with more damage).

M-99 Saber.... best weapon in the game imo :) Equip it with extended barrel and larger clip and  you're ready to rock.

I dont have extended barrel so I use a scope. To land those sweet headshots.

I have it, I don't think the damage trade-off is worth three bullets, because you're going to end up using at least 2 out of those 3 to kill someone, and you'll end up having to reload anyways to repeat the process, because just having one bullet in the chamber isn't going to cut it.

Both Widow and BW are great weapons, it's more a question of preference and circumstance. BW on bronze one shots all base enemies with a headshot or cloaked body shot, and you can take out three (or more if you happen to get a penetrating head shot on the one in back) with one cloak. On higher difficulties it is a toss up which is better, but the general consensus is BW, with Widow still being good, especially if you have to maxed or close to.

I prefer BW because it does good damage, has three shots, and I generally top scoreboards with it (not that it matters, or that I can't do it with the Widow). So what mods do you guys use? I use extended barrel and penetration mod. Yes the BW has SOME base penetration, but the penetration mod adds to the armor damage and makes it so you can shoot through fairly thicker walls, I've made some surprising headshots through walls I never thought I'd make it through.

I like the versatility of the Black Widow. I am not the best sniper, so the ability to put two more shots into a target or body shot three targets in a row appeals to me. It is a great weapon and has been paramount to my success in the multiplayer.

I only have the Talon, but it's awesome. Weighs as much as a Katana Shotgun, but is much better than it (in my opinion), mostly because Pistols have better mods than shotguns. I want the Falcon or Black Widow though.

BW > W simply because of damage not bleeding through defenses on gold.

It's difficult to say that. In the early waves BW > W, because of what you say. But the Widow against big targets will literally drop them in no time at all.

For small targets BW > W, for big targets W > BW (Well until you level up your BW so it can put out more damage).

That's more a matter of dps. I'm curious about the modifiers against defenses.

Look at the damage bar in the info during selection.  It's ~20% less powerful than the widow.98 at lvl1.

I'm not exactly sure really.

When I was playing with the Widow earlier I could take down both the Geth Primes shield and armour down to 2 bars in 1 Cloaked headshot each with armour piercing rounds. With someone else they were dropping extremely fast. Pyro's can be 1 shot killed with a Widow, if you make sure you hit them at such an angle where the shot goes through their head first and then it hits their fuel cannister. Troopers also die in 1 hit, it's just the Rocket troopers and Hunters which take 2 shots.

The Black Widow is really good, but the Widow is nothing to be sniffed at.

Edit:
Take into account the fact the Widow has a higher base damage too, which gains a 90% damage boost from cloak. The black widow won't benefit as much from cloak as the Widow does.

I have the widow, and black widow.

Sadly, I have not been getting what I've been wanting. I want my asari adept. What do I get instead? Geth Plasma Shotgun Lv3. Paladin Lv2. Widow Lv3. Krogan Sentinel customizations down to pattern.

On top of that, I haven't even been able to get the Falcon, or the Saber. -.-

Lucky you, I got the Falcon X and I don't even want it.

I've had the Black Widow for a little over a week. I have the Widow X, but can not get a Black Widow upgrade. I cant stand the single shot either.. so I refuse to use the regular Widow.

You can fire two (or three?) shots before uncloaking with the BW. Looking at the numbers, that would give you WAY higher damage than with the W. The thing is: What are the multipliers against armored targets? Assuming that "higher damage per shot -> higher multiplier against armor" is in fact valid, it would give the Widow a higher multiplier against armor, making your statement against beefy targets correct.

Edit: Arguing on which weapon is better is futile. In a perfect world, all weapons would be equally strong while maintaining their niches. I'm just interested in the theorycrafting :>

It's two shots, if you're fast.

But even then it doesn't drop armour in 3 shots as much as 1 shot with the Widow. I've tested it, it's also kinda weird because some times hit reg is pretty bad, and even if you do all 3 headshots on a Prime it won't really dent it's armour, and others it knocks it down by half.

What I'm saying is entirely basing it on a Black Widow being rank 1, and a Widow being rank 7 with Barrel mod (Full damage bar). Don't take me with regards to saying "Oh, Widow > Black Widow in all cases" because I'm very sure once a Black Widow is leveled it will easily drop a Prime from full armour -> Dead in 3 headshots and be superior to the Widow even on bigger targets. But until it's leveled (Which could take a while) the Widow is definitely able to contend with it.
