meine Mail an Bioware:
Dear Bioware,
I am a fan of your company since the release of Baldurs Gate. Bought
everything you developed for the PC since then, except MDK2 and the
Neverwinter Nights trilogie. I was pleased with how you presented and
told a story every time, as for me the story is the heart of every game!
I bought the first Mass Effect in 2007 and was completely overwhelmed by
the almost movie like atmosphere in a computer game. Honestly, what you
created was the most beautiful, astonishing and lively world ive ever
seen in a video game! So it took me not too long and i finished my first
playthrough, just to find myself starting another and another. The final
hour of the game was so thrilling and intense and just perfect. When
Sovereign got destroyed in my first playthrough, i was like "YES, take
that! Good job Joker!" jumping out of my seat, which startled my
girlfriend a little bit back then (i was still young back then).
Then came Mass Effect 2 and it was still great. The game was more about
characters than reapers, but that was good, cause all those little plots
around them were fascinating and exciting. For the main part the game
wanted you to get emotionaly attached to your squad, at least that was
my expression of it. Great final hour in that game as well!
Finaly Mass Effect 3. It was supposed to be my personal game of the year
2012, the grande finale of the best game in the last decade. For the
most part its exactly that, it was a very intense opening and you had a
good impression about the might of the reapers. They were not an enemy
to be underestimated, you made that one clear. The changings on the
citadel as the war progresses, the fight over Palaven, the Reaper on
Tuchanka, Mordins sacrifice... i could go on forever, its everything
great and exactly as i imagined! Thrilling and intense from beginning to
the end.
Then the ending. I still dont know what happened. What happened to the
writers there, how can they come up with something like this and get
trough with it? In 5 Minutes you threw everything away, i mean literally
everything! All this struggling and fighting and sacrificing was for
nothing and meaningless in this ending. I am playing this for 6 years,
thinking that i somehow have a chance to beat the odds and save the
galaxy my way. Suddenly i got presented one ending where everything i
cared about got destroyed. I immediately reloaded to take another choice
at the end. Still the same ending (different color though).
Shepard dying - can live with that, but not how i would have wanted it.
and certainly not in the way he did now, broken and alone...
Space Child / Godkid - The deus ex machina of the deus ex machina? Out
of the question, this decision was bad. Nothing else. Just bad. In a
story you dont want to have a completely new "something" be thrown at
you just to explain everything at the very last minute of the game.
Especially when the explanation doesnt make sense ("We synthetics kill
you, so you wont be killed by synthetics"). Even more so, with no way of
talking back in a game where you are supposed to have a choice all the
time. Should be cut in my opinion...
And the worst part of it all, the destruction of the universe by
destroying the mass relays. This one finaly brought me to the decision
to never touch the games again if you choose to keep it like this! The
relays are vital to the Galaxy i came to love and theyre eponymous for
it. Even if theyre not exploding like the one that killed a hole
batarian colony, theyre gone and with them the possibility to travel
through the galaxy.
Maybe it was better for Shepard to be killed, before he gets lynched by
the Quarians who definitly wont see their homeworld again, right after
they made peace with the geth...
When i saw the Normandy fleeing i was really thinking i missed some
important dialogue which explains that. Joker, of all charakters, is the
oldest comrade of Shepard and he is supposed to abandon his position,
without even contacting Shepard?! They crashed on a jungle planet out
of FTL Speed (he must have been fleeing for a long time, cause the next
habitable planet is quite far away) and the new Normandy must really be
endurable cause she is looking quite fine for that impact.
Joker just crashed on a planet, gets out of the Normandy, looks at the
horizon and starts... smiling?! Galaktic civilization just got
destroyed, your ship is down, best friend presumed dead and he starts
smiling. He has some serious humor...
Right where i thought things couldnt get any worse i saw Garrus exiting
the Normandy. Garrus was supposed to be on earth.... nevermind...
long story short: worst ending in video game history!
You know, i trust in you to make it right. I know you can. I simply know
that bioware is better than this, after ive had so many good times with
your games! I wont write much of an conclusion, i think you get my point.
sincerely and with deep respect,

p.s. maybe you already noted, english is not my native language so
please excuse any mistakes in my text.
p.p.s. sorry if i got a bit carried away towards the end, it was not my
intention to affront someone at bioware.
