In DA:O, I wanted to be nice to everyone and be friends with everyone.  With Zevran, I was very friendly and supportive and understanding of him and his past and that whole trying to kill me thing.  I was just trying to be a friendly guy.  Somewhere along the way the game decided that I must be trying to romance him.  There was never a love scene or any delcarations of love or anything, so imagine my surprise when Morrigan asked me if I was thinking of Zevran when I turned her demonspawn plan down and otherwise assumed Zevran and I were a thing.  There wasn't even a "Um, you got me wrong here" option.  It separated me from my character.

So, finally getting to the point, is there some way I'm going to be able to tell if I'm choosing the romance dialogue options?  Or, if Cortez decides to make a move (or thinks I'm making a move) is there an option to say, "Sorry, didn't mean to mislead you," or something like that?  I just don't want to run into a situation like I had in DA:O where my character got of got away from me.

tl:dr - Can I accidentally romance Cortez, or is it pretty clear when things are moving down that path?

P.S.  I don't want this to turn into a homosexual romance option vs. no homosexual romance option argument.  That's not the point of my question; if you want to express your opinion on the matter there are other places to do so.  Thanks.

You won't ninja romance him, the options are pretty clear cut.
Diane Allers is another story, she just couldn't keep her mouth shut, Liara didn't want to touch me after that.....

Well, with Diane, she might follow you home, but you can always send her back to her kennel.

If Shepard chose Allers over Liara...then he'd just need a kick in the face and to be fed to a Reaper.

How could you trust someone to save the galaxy when he's poking Allers instead of Liara...it's just...it's madness...

Liara is an alien who literally ****s your mind.

Call me crazy but I think most men would rather be with an actual woman. I doubt Liara even has anything down there that's compatible with human gentials.

The Asari are all female, and have sex mentally. Why would their biology have gentials that are in anyway designed for pleasure?

Sure giving birth is implied to be similar but why would Asari have had sexual gentials for thousands of years when they are all the same gender and reproduce mentally?

I'd be like ****ing a toliet roll.

You're not thinking. They're designed as Female. Ask any prothean. You're retort enforces the circumstance. Sure, it's mental ,but as well must be physical. We're not privy to the gory details. It would be dishonest to 'act out' such stuff, without finality, or consummation.  No need to be derogatory, it's just medicine.. lol I have no idea about the value of toilet rolls in such cases?Image IPB

So the Asari body adapted to Turians and Salarians within a couple hundred years? Even though they never needed to in order to reproduce?

How does that work?

Prothean medical science. The Asari are their.. experiment. They tinkered with them over a long time. It's why Liara is so freaked about Javik...they go back a loooooong way..maybe to the beginnings of the Asari.. according to lore.

edit: Apparently, Asari can 'mate' with anyone/thing, short of synthetics..(how the do it is scantly explained in the codex/lore.)

edit 2.. they look mostly human, and that is kind of a writers cramp really..must be attributed to 'human error'.. )

typo fixed.

edit: forgot to add, or really, just remembered, there was talk of the Prothean's "tinkering" with Humans on Earth, back when they were around, before Humanity became fully space worthy. When, or around the time the beacon was left on Mars. Could be why Asari resemble earthers so much? That was the theory here on the BSN a while, or longer, back.

I'm guessing the asari were hermaphrodites before their species developed the mindmelting abilities.

Besides, my neck isn't designed for reproduction, but if a girl runs her fingernails across it it feels darn marvellous.

^ Perhaps but a male can't fornicate with your neck. At least not in a pleasant way.

Now imagine an alien unlike you with genitals unlike yours fornicating with your neck.

Seriously ninja romances in ME2 and ME3? With clear big neon lines as - I want you Thane or Let´s have sex Garrus, oh Shepad what did you thought it´s going to happen when you join me in shower?

Really with options like that?

And moreover you have like three option to shot Steve down. And he doesn´t even ask you if you are romancing someone, he is the one who shots you down if you try something.

And beside you realize the only way to romance Zevran is to sleep with him? If you did no wonder he loves you after the Denerim events.

I'm currently doing a playthrough with my "evil" Shep, who happens to be romancing Liara and in Lair of the Shadow Broker when you're chasing the Spectre at that "exotic" hotel Azure, Liara talks about Asari "nether regions"--Azure is also apparently the slang for it and it's located in the same general region as a females from what she says, so I think it's safe to assume that from a physical standpoint, the Asari do share similarities with human females in that department.

Steve won't get the wrong idea if you are already in a romance. When we were sitting in the nightclub and he is admiring the talent, I tried the option "what about me?" with my male Shepard and the response was something to the effect that "you've got a girlfriend." However, normally I just took the other option where I said I liked the girls on the stage and everything was just fine.

The one you have to watch is Kaiden if he is still alive. I was treating him no differently to how I had always done but because I was caring, took him a bottle in hospital and was generally being a nice guy and a good friend, suddenly he opens up and declares his love for me - now that was awkward.

Really? And you never did any obvious romance dialogue?

That's strange. In the only ME playthrough that I really pulled through until the end yet, Ashley was the VS. I never encountered any romance dialogue in ME3 unless I practically asked for it. I would find it strange if Kaidan was different.

Similar to Cortez, if you lock into a romance with someone else, Kaidan will give you a friend speech instead. If you select "what about me" with Cortez while not being locked in a romance, the romance would proceed to a lock-in moment as well. I still don't understand why so many people call Kaidan "Kaiden".
