I just completed the game...........And I have to say: I would never have predicted the ending(s).

I'm almost speechless right now. The ending filled me with just about every emotion you can think of, it was like an emotional roller-coaster, for me. In my opinion, it was very good, but it's really messing with my head. The feeling is overwhelming. Need time to process.

:kissing::?:blush:B):o:blink::pinched:-_-:blush::huh::alien::mellow::innocent::blink:;) (Not exaggerating)

This is how I would've ended it. (It's a metaphor, but you get the point)

I believe there would've been ways to make it much more emotional and deep, even if you want to keep the dark mood, something like seeing your LI holding Shepard's dead body instead of smiling in a jungle.

I would have been fine with Shepard living and Earth the galaxy being saved.

I like Dragoni89's ending.

I would make it so the Reapers die but everyone else lives. The relays are still there and there is peace in the universe. I would completly erase that whole "god kid" thing with the crucible, what a bunch of crap. Shepard would live out the rest of his/her life depending on your choices.

My take on the only way to fix the ending to be satisfactory given the framework that Bioware has given us is to actually make EMS count during the endings.  You'd still have the 3 endings with control being the renegade, synthesis being the paragon, and destruction being in between.  Then you have your EMS levels layed out like so:

Low: The crucible takes a direct shot from the reaper forces, blowing up the citadel right as you activate the crucible, so shep dies, the relays explode, for control the signal has the side effect of killing all the non-reaper synthetics too, and destruction obviously still wipes them out too.
Medium: You haven't poured enough resources into the crucible, and it takes a glancing shot from the reapers, so while the relays survive, shep still dies, and control/destruction still wipe out synthetics.
High: The crucible still takes the glancing shot, which kills shep, but control/destruction avoid killing the other synthetics because you've upgraded the crucible enough.
Almost perfect: The crucible survives intact, shep lives in all but the synthesis option, which is a heroic sacrifice ending.

Then you can have some epilogue describing who and what survived the carnage, also probably depending on how your EMS shakes out.  Find out some of what happens to the other races, based on the choices you made, if you live have some kind of scene involving shep and their love interest, plus some shots of rebuilding going on around the galaxy.

ITs the only way they can savage this **** without a serious rework, and I hope to god they do it, because I've never felt angry that I bought a video game before this.

My biggest gripe, and the way I would have ended it, would have been to include a FINAL BOSS BATTLE. I really hate the fact that not only the ending cutscene was terrible, but there was no great final boss. I assumed that after Shep goes into the Citadel, you'd fight your way through whatever would be in there, and confront the Illusive Man. After a lengthy dialouge, you both engage in a tough one-on-one. After your victory, you proceed furthur in to active the Crucible. At this point, Harbinger shows up, another lenghty dialouge starts, and then you begin the final boss fight. How this would take place, I honestly have no idea. But it should have been Shepard vs. Reaper.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Illusive Man should have been the boss at the Cerberus Base. Not Kai Leng. It would have been more dramatic to kill him in that room that we grew so accustomed to seeing him in.

God, just thinking about the horrible ending to this makes me depressed.

BioWare, I am SO disappointed. :(

EDIT: I also wanted to add, the whole London battle was a let-down. I was expecting an expanded version of the Suicide Mission, in that you would have to make choices on who does what, but your choices would be based on the war assets you included. For example, you could assign the Asari Commando Team to take positions on the high ground, to cover a Krogan Strike Team that would engage the Reaper at a frontal assault. Depending on what groups you pick for certain scenarios, and who you had available to start with, certain groups would die. If too many died, then you wouldn't make it, or a squad member wouldn't make it.

Just noticed there were two topics on this, cross posting this here since this seems to be the bigger one =p

Instead of having the crucible be a link to vent boy, I would have made it a tool to block/reverse indoctrination. The reapers aren't unbeatable, we've destroyed some, as did the protheans, it's just their ability to wear people down with their own troops that makes them nigh unstoppable. Taking away/jamming their indoctrination would allow us to fight them on more even footing. Maybe even have several reapers destroyed from the inside due to the workers inside who had been indoctrinated suddenly waking up. Have a massive space battle with a few different variations depending on which forces you had managed to recruit. Maybe even a tactical section where shep is in charge of directing troops for the battle and deciding who to send where.

The final battle would conclude with a suicide mission-esque charge onto the largest reaper command ship. People could live/die depending on loyalty missions again and at the end shep faces down harbinger. He explains that the reapers purge the galaxy in order to procreate (ala ME2) and they have a set time to do it in order to prevent technology from progressing to a level where a species could be a danger to them. The protheans managing to delay sovreign is the only thing that has allowed the humans to advance as far as they have. Ensue massive battle.

Endings:

Super Bad: Everyone dies =p

"Bad": Humanity is wiped out, reapers win. Cut to 50,000 years in the future as the races of the next cycle destroy the reapers. Celebration on the citadel of all the alien races, and statues built to honor the sacrifice of the heroes of our cycle. A discussion of the new council will reveal that Liara's data was found and used to help defeat the reapers, and your heroes names will go down in history as the saviors of the galaxy.

Neutral: Harbinger detonates the mass effect relays as a last "screw you" to shep and his team. Most of civilization is destroyed, but there are some that live. What normandy members live depends on loyalty missions/side quests completed. Cutscene shows combined group of races on burned out earth working to rebuild. Flash forward a few hundred years to civilization discovering how to build their own mass effect relays and ships taking off to other systems to try to reestablish contact. If shep was straight and had a LI maybe have one of the ship commanders with the last name shepard.

Good: Habinger attempts to detonate the relays, but is stopped. Having either Anderson or TIM (with his indoctrination broken) sacrifice himself to stop it here would be ideal. I actually like the idea of TIM doing it, going out in a blaze of glory, telling shepard that all he ever wanted was the best for humanity, and he knows humanity is in good hands with shepard around. Cue farm with white picket fence and little blue babies cutscene.

Of course these are the paragon versions, I'm sure there would have to be some tweaking for the renegades.

Mass Effect Ending DLC

*This is after normal Normandy crashes and Joker/ friends get out, screen fades to black.*

(Fade in) “Shepard?” (LI voice, or Admiral Hacket if no LI)

“Shepard, are you still there?  What’s happening with the Catalyst?” (Admiral Hacket)

“My God… All fleets Retreat! Harbinger is heading this way! … Static” (Admiral Hacket)

(Chittering)

Shepard looks up, groggy (It was a dream).
Standing before him/her is a Keeper looking down on him/her.  Shepard gets up, looking around a massive white chamber.  He/she is surrounded by,keepers, and in the middle is one GIANT keeper. It looks old and has obviously new Reaper tech implanted in it.

1.  [What is this place?]

2.  [Where the hell am I?]

(1/2) “You are in the Central Control Chamber, the hub of all Keeper activity on the Citadel.” (O.K.)

[“Who are you?”]

“I am the Overkeeper.  I was put here by the Reapers to insure the Citadel remained functional. “ (O.K.)

“By the Reapers? So they could use it to enter from darkspace?” (Shepard)

“Yes, until the Protheans helped me to fight their influence. “(O.K.)

1.  [“Why would you help the Reapers?”]

“We created them. We programmed them to preserve life. Afterwards they enslaved us, deeming us hostile to our own existence. Through indoctrination they changed us into what you see now.” (O.K.)

2.  [“How did you escape their influence?”]

“50,000 years was enough time to fight their indoctrination.  The Protheans of the last cycle implanted the
seed of resistance and over thousands of years it grew into defiance.” (O.K.)

3. [“Why did they bring the Citadel to Earth, what do they want with it?”]

“The Citadel has the ability to create a new Reaper. They brought it here to use your species genetic material to create another of their kind. It is nearing completion.” (O.K.)

“I need to make the Crucible work, do you know how?” (Shepard)

“The Crucible was invented by my species to fight the Reapers long ago.  It is code directed at the core programming inherent in every Reaper.  We designed it to force a shutdown but we didn’t have enough time to complete it before they enslaved us. “ (O.K.)

“We built the Crucible! It is finished  and here but I have to figure out how to activate the Catalyst!” (Shepard)

“The Catalyst is not a piece of machinery. It is the choice by an organic being to initiate the Reaper shutdown event.” (O.K.)

“Why didn’t you just activate it yourself?” (Shepard)

“I am unable, as my genetic marker has been modified to the point that the system cannot recognize my input.  You, however, would be able to initiate the process.” (O.K.)

“Yes, hurry!” (Shepard)

The floor shifts and next to the Overkeeper a dais raises with a control console.  As Shepard moves
toward it the Booming thrum of a Reaper is heard and the Overkeeper’s eyes glow yellow.

“Assuming direct control of this form.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Harbinger!” (Shepard)

“You cannot stop us Shepard.   The genetic memories of your entire race will be preserved forever. We are the peak of evolution, why do you resist? Relinquish your form and join us, you cannot escape your destiny.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

1.   “What about the other races? “ Lead into a click by race selection.

“Quarians were considered due to cybernetic augmentation, weakened immune system too debilitating.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Drell are useless, insufficient numbers.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Asari’s reliance upon alien species for reproduction shows genetic weakness.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Salarian’s have insufficient lifespan, fragile genetic structure.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Geth are an annoyance, limited utility.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Krogan’s  sterilised race, potential wasted.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

Or  “Krogan’s have limited technical potential  (Harbinger/O.K.)

“Turian’s are considered...too primitive.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

2.  [“If you can’t beat them… “]
(Cut Scene of you getting liquefied and becoming a human/reaper, helping destroy the galaxy)

3.  [“I’ll never join you!”]

Start Boss Battle

Boss Battle

“Your fleets have retreated and you stand alone Shepard, you have no one left.” (Harbinger/O.K.)

Cutscene of Normandy flying towards Citadel and Harbinger/Reaper.

(Radio) “We have your back, Commander!” (Joker)

“Joker?” (Shepard)

“You aren’t the only one that gets to be a hero, Commander.” (Joker)

“…and we brought friends.” (Joker)

Cut-scene showing examples of each fleet that you earned, all ignoring the retreat order

“Hey Harbinger, you know what they say about those that assume?” (Joker)

 *beat*

“They ****** everyone off!” (Joker)

They fire on Harbinger

“Good thing this gun was calibrated.” (Joker)

Boss battle of Shepard fighting Harbinger/Overkeeper

Boss Health is reduced a certain amount by each fleet that was earned

(Conversation while in Boss Battle)

“What, you didn’t think we would leave you, did you?” (Joker)

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” (Shepard)

Boss dies

Space battle is hard, Normandy is beat up (How bad based on how many fleets helped)

The Overkeeper (freed of Harbinger Control) gasps.  (In the battle the console is damaged)

“The controls are damaged, if you activate the console it will overload and you will die.” (O.K.)

“I don’t have any other choice. This is what I came here to do. This is what we all fought and died for.” (Shepard)

The Overkeeper slumps and Shepard walks towards the damaged console

“Everyone get away from the Citadel… thanks for the help, this could have ended much worse without it.” (Shepard)

“No way, we won’t leave you, Commander!” (Joker)

“Get out of here Joker! That’s an Order!” (Shepard)

(Epic Specter Music and crashing sounds as the chamber is falling apart)

Shepard walks towards the console and gets shocked while inputting the code.  He/she keeps at it and images
of Anderson and Liara play in his head (Similar to Original Ending) finally he/she is overloaded with light and power as the command is executed.  The blast goes out, shutting down all the Reapers on Earth then pulsing through the relays all over the galaxy.  Ending

Or

(If Anderson was saved) As Shepard walks towards the console Anderson rushes past and shoulders you out of the way.

“Anderson! What are you doing?!” (Shepard)

Anderson shoots Shepard in the leg so he/she can’t fight him. Shepard falls back on the lift that brought him/her up.

“Now were even. Get out of here Shepard.  The galaxy needs its hero.  This is as it should be. (He steps up to the controls and inputs the data) “And Shepard… Tell Kaylee I loved her.  Now GO!!!” (Anderson)

The lift lowers Shepard back down. The blast goes out, shutting down all the Reapers on Earth then pulsing through the relays all over the galaxy. The ceiling above you blows out as it is destroyed and you are flung into space.  As you are struggling for breath the Normandy swoops in and grabs you. (If it isn't too damaged)

“Never was good at following orders, Commander.” (Joker)

Joker Smiles

Ending

Based on what you did.

Show Tuchanka with Krogans on green soil.

Show Rannoch with Tali building a house (With you, Garrus, or a Geth if no Garrus helping)

Show Earth rebuilding

Show Miranda with her Sister

Show Jack as teacher but she stops and smirks as she shows her kids how to use biotics to blow back the stuff on her desk

Show Vega with a Tattoo of Shepard on his back getting his N7.

Show Samara with her daughter (or similar)

Show Liara on Thessia helping rebuild holding an Asari baby (Is it your Sheps?!?)

Show Joker and EDI in the Server Room

Show funeral for Shepard (Or Anderson)

Credits.

After credits show as if you are waking up from the Rebuilding Table from Mass Effect 2.  The
view flips and you see The Illusive Man on the table.  His face looks back to normal but his eyes are still the creepy blue.  You here the Illusive man say “Shepard… (and then in Harbinger’s voice as his eyes turn from
blue to yellow)… I always survive.”

Cut to black.

1)  I would have exposition explaining what happens with the citadel, people who were on the Citadel, relays, crew galaxy, races, etc.  If Shep lives I would show he gets reunited with his LI.  If he doesn't I would show Shep getting mourned.  I would show the Normandy getting repaired and being picked up by the Alliance and Shep reuniting with his/her crew and LI.

2)  I would have the Blue Ending be destorying the reapers ONLY along with the Citadel and the relays because a main paragon theme of Mass Effect series has been not using the reaper tech as a short cut.  The galaxy has to develop on its own.

3)  I would have the Red ending being controlling the reapers.  Because one of the main renegade themes of the Mass Effect series has been about gaining power you cannot control.  I would show that Shep becomes either the catalist, or some kind of Reaper AI.  The Citadel and relays are damaged but they are still around.  Maybe he uses the reapers to help the galaxy or mankind only

4)  I like the idea of the green ending, its imaginative.  I would like to keep it.  I would still blow up the citadel and the relays with the green ending

5)  I would give Shep a chance to live on each ending depending on your assets and reputation.  For Red he just lives, for Blue he gets turned into some kind of AI, for Green he just becomes a type of synthesis like anyone else.

6) In the exposition I would explain that the destruction of the relays does not doom the galaxy.  That it will be tough but people can return to their homes and rebuild.  That people will build new technology to unite the galaxy.

7)  I would also have the Normandy stay around Earth.  This would explain how your squadmates get on it as you would have conversations stating they were transported to the Citadel as well and Joker picked them up.  I would also have Anderson get picked up as if we save him from TIM then he has just gone unconcious.

I wouldnt really meddle with the story as it is, it seemed quite reasonable up until the point with the magic elevator, i would completely erase that. I mean cmon, if the citadel (the higher inteligence in citadel) controled reapers why the hell it wouldnt have opened the mass relay in it, in ME 1 and ended everything. Instead, the crucible would be some kind of weapon as it was supposed to be, you would actually get to see your companions fighting, the armies you brought together, maybe even something with talking to them or commanding the forces, as u kinda did in ME 2 with ur companions. Than the crucible does its thing, either the deathray or something else( i really like the ide that someone had about it opening a mass effect hole or something with a fleet from protheans and other civilizations that were defeated by reapers, i mean, the crucible is said to be work of many civilizations together) The ending itself doesnt really tell us anything, so i would have shepard nearly dying or dying (depending on what u did, ur war assets and whatnot) or destroying the reapers, or even controling them as it was (if u are that kind of renegade Shepard) and than just see an awesome ending battle, with crucible doing its thing, ending the reapers, and Shepard being picked up by Normandy as wer used to. With ur companions actually surviving, not only those in ur party as its seen in cutscene that is now on the remote planet. And afterwards some kind of epilogue that saying what happened after the war depending on your chocies, maybe some kind of holywood ending with ur romance and having drinks with Garrus and others and such, im just sucker for good endings, AND (mostly) complete endings, give me some closure about what happened, whats going on and such and i will take it.
Not to mention the thing about relays and all the other inaccuracies that the endings brings to eye. Its just a mess right now.
Plus, hell there is so many fine ideas amogst fans, there is so many better ways to do the endings, cmon Bioware, please.

I find it amazing how many different ideas on how to end the game there are here. And almost all of them are better or at least more acceptable than the games current ending.

I think having the player's actions from over the course of three games matter in the ending instead of just "Pick between these three" would have helped. I don't need a choice room; I want what I did to determine how my game ends.

This.  I really thought that with th "16 endings" it would be something more like the Crucible analyzing Shepard's actions and creating a new path based on that.  Maybe each ending wouldn't be radically different, but at least it would have kept the fate of the galaxy and Shepard from being made in a total bubble.  The Galactic Readiness system would still count, it would just be one of the factors that the Crucible analyzed.

Or perhaps where Shepard and Anderson are just sitting there after the Crucible is completed could have been the ending.  Maybe that act would have signaled the Reapers to leave because they recognized what it took to get there.

All they need to do is get rid of the Reaper Child God AI Thing with the three choices on the crucible.

Instead of Shep collapsing in front of the control panel and then going up to see the Reaper Child God AI Thing, have him mash a button on the panel... red laser shoots out, kills all the Reapers around Earth, bounces around the mass relays like in the "destroy" ending, killing the Reapers in the other systems.

Everyone rejoices, but looks at the rubble. Bittersweet "happy" ending that's no less ridiculous than the "complex" endings they gave us.

In fact, I'm going to pretend that's what happened.

Ok, here we go:

Shepard chooses to destroy, merge, control, whatever. As he performs this action, the camera switches to first person view and the character is blinded by a white light, followed by a fade to black.

Several seconds pass, and you hear the faint beep of an EKG.

Your vision returns, but you notice that you cannot move your eyes. You also notice that you are lying down in what appears to be a hospital bed. The ceiling is white and tiled, and there is sunlight flooding in from a window on your left.

"Hello, Mrs. Williams, you can go in whenever you're ready."

"Thank you nurse..."

You hear footsteps, and then you hear a door open. You suspect it is the door to the room you are in. You hear a chair being moved beside your bed. Out of the corner of your field of vision, you can barely make out Ashley Williams' face before she sits down.

"Hey Shepard... It's me again. I tried to bring Kaiden along like I promised I would last time, but he couldn't miss his celebration ceremony. You're probably wondering what they're celebrating... Well I hate to talk business on my visits, but I thought you would like to know..."

*You hear Ashley shift around in her seat*

"You remember that Saren guy? You know, the one the dockworker told us about on Eden Prime? Kaiden had a hunch about him, and he decided to track him down... Anyway, he caught up with him on that one planet with the beaches... Virmire, I think? Well, it turns out Saren was cooking up some crazy plot to destroy all life in the galaxy with a bunch of geth. Needless to say, the Council organized their fleets and put a stop to that pretty quick. So now Kaiden is a hero, and he's being made a Spectre. Pretty cool, huh?"

*A few moments of silence, and then a mournful sigh*

"Sometimes I wonder if you can even hear me. I know I say this all the time... but dammit, it should have been me on this hospital bed. I was the idiot that got too close to that damned Prothean Beacon on Eden Prime. You barely knew me, you didn't have to save me. But now here you are, comatose on a hospital bed. It's already been months and I'm starting to lose hope in the doctors here. What are you thinking about all day? Can you even think? Is this even life for you?"

*Ashley begins to sob heavily*

"I just wish I could thank you somehow for what you did. Maybe if I just--"

*You here a voice over an intercom*

"Mrs. Williams, your time is almost up, Shepard needs to be monitored again."

"Ok, I'm almost done."

"Alright, come find me in the lobby when you're done."

"Shepard I... I have to go."

*You hear Ashley get up from her chair and move to your left side, near the life support equipment.*

"I don't know if this is what you want. I would sure as hell thank you for it if I were in your position. But I think it's the only way I can return the favor. I don't know where you'll end up. But it has to be better than this hell. Goodbye Shepard."

*You hear a sound like a plug being yanked from a wall. As Ashley leaves the room, your vision begins to blur. The EKG monitor flatlines and your vision cuts to black.*

Cue credits.

Wait... we were supposed to create a better ending?

Synthesis Ending:

After the squad crash lands on the planet, they begin to explore. They find a bright light. In that bright light is a smiling Shepard, completely healed. He/She embraces their LI.

Fast forward 1000 years. Shepard and the whole gang are still alive, as the synthesis has rendered sentient beings immortal. Society is rebuilt on the planet, and they are focusing on rebuilding the relays to reconnect with the galaxy. Shepard and his/her LI are watching from a balcony as their children are hard at work on the prototype omni-directional relay.

Sentimental and cheesy, but thats what I wanted.

As for me, I cut up the available footage to try and make a better ending:

I already made a thread about it here but I figured I'd also post in this megathread in case the mods get lock happy.

I would have excluded the lines of dialogue in the destroy ending about all synthetic life, even the Geth will be destroyed, and simply said "It will destroy the reapers." Would have also modified the motives of the reapers to be something, I don't know...coherent.

The end would have been really similar except instead of Normandy randomly hitting a relay and crashing on random alien world, do this:

1) If War Assets very low, show Normandy wreckage in space after the crucible has fired, implying it was destroyed after returning to SWORD. Show Shepards N7 armor in pieces. FIN

2) If War Assets high enough for crew to survive, but not Shepard, have the Normandy pull up to the Citidel after the Crucible has fired and things have calmed down. Crew gets off ship and is searching for Shepard. They find his body, everyone is sad.  Perhaps one of them says a few words about the greatest person they've ever known who just gave his life to save the galaxy.

3)Max War Assets: Same as above, but when crew finds Shepards body and initially fears the worst, Small movement, maybe just opens his eyes, gives a small smile. Fade to black.

YES!! At least that kind of ending!
I really was looking forward fighting Harbinger as some kind of last boss. This ME3 ending... man all those hours I put to make sure everyone lives, ALL POINTLESS
