Funnily enough, my first run-through saw Shepard survive.stwu wrote...
I have played this series over and over again made sure my games were ready for this and then I find that no matter what I've done my Shepard has to die.
Maybe you're just doing it wrong.

I just hope maybe i haven't seen an available ending or something. I feel... depressed.
I envisioned my Shepard fishing or having a drink at the end. Something mundane after all that horror.
I guess i'm simple.

My big problem with the ending is that it in no way lined up with my expectations. ME1 and ME2 gave me a false impression of how ME3 would turn out, so I thought I already knew what I would get in ME3 and I avoided spoilers and had no idea that I would be so disappointed by this ending.
Some people may say, hey - that's my problem for having those expectations in the first place, and, yeah, maybe, but let's break down the series:
ME1: Through determination, badassery, and general awesomeness, Shepard defeats Saren and Sovereign against all odds, survives, and gets the girl.
ME2: Through determination, badassery, and general awesomeness, Shepard defeats the Collectors against all odds, survives, and gets the girl.
ME3: Shepard dies, and leaves behind either organics, organics and synthetics, or organic/synthetic hybrids, destroying the ME universe as we know it in the process by destroying all the relays. Every person in the galaxy is stranded wherever they were when the relays blew, and it is unclear whether or not the relay explosions took out the systems they were in, like in Arrival, or if there's some explanation for why that wouldn't be the case. There is, in fact, no explanation for anything that happens after Shepard's final choice.
I expected past performance to be an indication of future performance. Some people were perfectly happy with the ending, and I think they're lucky bastards because if you didn't find the ending deeply disappointing, you a truly great game for your money, and I kind of wish I could feel the same ... but ME1 and ME2 left me with the expectation that in ME3, through determination, badassery, and general awesomeness, Shepard would defeat the Reapers against all odds, survive, and get the girl.
I honestly thought that was the game I was buying, and given ME1 and ME2, that's just not an unreasonable expection. When I played ME1 for the first time, I thought that was how the trilogy would end, on a more massive scale, and I was all-in for that. That epic ending of defeating insurmountable odds, and triumph and resilience, and refusing to be defeated ... that's why I played this series. I wanted to get to that epic, awesome, triumphant ending. I played and replayed ME1 and ME2 more times than I care to try to count, always with the expectation that ME3 would have an ending available that I would find satsifying.
And then it didn't.

TOR is garbage a ME MMO will fail and EA will get rid of bioware so i suggest they don't get cocky and try that.

1) TOR sucked. If they spent as much on it as rumors say they did, I doubt EA will be green lighting another so soon.Rawgrim wrote...

2) 2 out of the 3 endings kind of destroy the tech that makes Mass Effect what it is.
3) ALLIANCE VS REAPER PLAYERS IN A SPORTING EVENT IN SPAAAAACE!

Just curious how people many will not be purchasing another Bioware game? Based off the endings I personally will not be purchasing any further Bioware games if they are single player story based games. SWTOR is an exception due to it being an MMO.

EDIT: This series was all about HOPE. To have that hope shattered in 5 minutes is unforgiveable. We all want a formal apology and resolution to these endings.
IMO this is not the first series Bioware has destroyed, Dragon Age 2 killed that series and now ME3 brings down another. Please Bioware, restore our hope and bring peace to our galaxy.

I won't be buying any more Bioware games.

These ending just leave a bad taste in my mouth. I have no interest in playing ME 3 through again until i get a different ending. There are some that like the endings and good for them. if you want to say its just a few go right ahead. Its more than just a few i think. its just a few who take the time to actually post. So far as i know i'm the only one of my friends actually posting but all the ones who have finished the game are just disgusted. so for every poster triple or more people feel the same way lets say. This is fixable though. Let BW put out a dlc with new optional better endings etc. Ill drop my $10 for that and ride off happily into the sunset with my LI

And what pisses me off the most is the game was and is great up until the ending. Bioware trying big, smart and deep and falling flat , lame and just nonsensical at the end. "Oh lets be like NGE..." yeah but see the difference that NGE endings provoked debate. "Lets be like Deus Ex and Deus EX HR." same thing those ending prevoked thought about what happen. These endings are just ... I don't know what they are... The absolute worst is The Catalyst Explination of whole deal. " Oh see there is the problem of Organics and Synthetics... the Creators and the thier Progeny always going to war." Even that really just window dressing because the problem and core conflict is more than that... but Bioware botched the job so bad. When the could have used moments like Thane and Koylat reconcilling, Wrex joy at being a father, the Geth and Quarians, EDI and Joker and even Shepard himself as example of why that Brat was wrong. There is not thought being provoked because I know what Bioware in tell this story was trying to get a across..

I'm a Bioware fanboy, I used to say they can't make a bad game. I was wrong.
You know, I thought the same about them. But it was very reminiscent of Nicholas Cage's acting career since DA2.

Stop buying their games because of a bad ending? Lol. I probably wouldn't buy games at all if I were worried about bad endings.
It's not the bad ending - it's the unavoidable bad ending. I'd have played one or more of the currently available endings and enjoyed it with one of my Shepard's if that's not all that was available. BioWare's track record, from Baldur's Gate to DA:O is one of epic stories with high stakes and awesome endings, both good and bad. DA:O is, in fact, my example of how to include a "PC Dies" ending without pissing people off, in stark contrast to, say, Fallout 3 (after I finished Fallout 3, I googled "Fallout 3 Ending" to see if I'd messed something up, and google helpfully filled in "Fallout 3 Ending Sucks").
The difference between DA:O and the original F3 ending is, you, the player, have to choose that ending. Whatever your reasoning is, to get the "PC Dies" DA:O ending, you make an actual choice. Because the player makes an actual choice, that ending has way, >way< more emotional weight to it than ME3 does. Other than the stunned amazement and deep disappointment that BW actually did that, I didn't have an emotional reaction to my choice in ME3. With the three choices that I had available, I simply didn't care anymore. As for why I'm on the forums if I don't care ... the faint, faint hope that BW fixes this like Bethesda fixed F3, and that thing where total strangers start talking to each other saying "OMG, did you see that?" after witnessing a car accident.
If I didn't care about how a game ends, I wouldn't play RPGs. Video games are a unique storytelling medium in their ability to offer up different endings based on choices the player has made, making it a kind of collaborative effort - within obvious constraints - rather than the more simple interaction of storyteller and audience like in a book or a movie. With all of the choices leading up to that final moment in ME2, it was a huge let-down that none of them mattered in the end, and I didn't find it satisfying in the least. Being totally dissatisfied with a product is a perfectly reasonable reason to not do business with a specific company anymore.
Personally, I'm not at that point yet, but I am at the point where I'm going to have to know all possible endings for one of their games to make sure there's one in there that I'm actually going to like before I pay money and spend my time on it.

I loved Mass Effect 3! I thought it was a great remedy to the disappointment that was DA2. Great game play and an awesome story. I do admit that the ending was extremely depressing since I hated watching my Shepard that I've been playing since M1 die, but to say that it ruined the entire game, destroyed Mass Effect, and will cause you to boycott every Bioware game just makes me laugh so hard.
I didn't even really care about the ending since I knew it was going to be; Shepard stops Reapers, the cycle is over. Am I saying that it was great? No, I'm not! I for one wished for a bit more closure since it's the final game. But did it ruin the entire game for me? Of course not!
I guarantee that if Bioware did go back and change the ending they would still be ****ing and complaining about it.
That's just how the internet works....

If possible, I like to be one of the first to call BS
His quotes on ME3
"Your story is customised around your Shepard and who you are - we stay faithful to that concept"
All our choices were not even implemented in that ending.
"ME3 is a completely different setting; literally the entire galaxy is at war. All these races are now face to face with a war story that they have to overcome."
War assets contributed nothing to the story of the game. War assets was just a stupid number.
"We want the outcomes to be satisfying to the player, and that doesn’t
necessarily mean they’re all going to be happy or positive, but they
have to be satisfying and they have to understand that the choices that
they’ve been making in this game and in previous have an impact, and
that they’re an architect in what happens."
80% of BSN hate the ending. None of our choices mattered at all.
