Well if this happens due to the host hacking his game files the only way to avoid this is to either host the game yourself or have a friend host it. You don't necessarily have to do private/premade groups, you just need to avoid going into a game hosted by an unknown player.

Needless to say all of this should be handled serverside and it's beyond me why credit gains in multiplayer are even affected by local game files.

Between this and the disappearing unlocks bug multiplayer is pretty screwed up at the moment.

This is not nice.
Banning people for their own mistakes and errors in online game mechanics?
Can anybody from Bioware comment this issue?

If you're worried about getting into hacked games;

Wouldn't you be able to see the that the amount of credits you receive for the objective waves is way too much? If so, you can simply leave the game.

ah, EAat it's finest as usual,
gues i'm gonna stick with frends or host my own matches till we get to more about this.
hope your ban get's lifted soon jack, rly sucks.

seems best avoided by witing all the players names down if you bump into anything like this and send it to support, after a while there should be a clear picture on who these modders are

Problem is EA wanted to make a profit out of micro-transactions so they will act accordingly to their policy - stomp every bugger that tries to cut 'em off of their ravenue.

But did they take countermeasure for this scenario? Clearly they didnt! And now PC players will suffer because of this. How am I to act if I end up with this kind of creds on my part? What is the legitimate reason for banning ppl out of the game here? They are not stealing or breaking rules of conduct, just taking advantages of exploits possible thanks to some config files taht can be modified.

I say they shlud adhere to 'let the 9 gulity go to avoid punishing 1 innocent' and FIX the problem.

Seriously, its a trend in this time and age: lets bomb 'em first, look for the weapons of mass destruction later (aye, everyone's edad so no one will complain, right?). And I see it everywhere, almost all game companies react this way.

Well, maybe except CDPR...

This is absolutely absurd. It shouldn't be too difficult to verify that you weren't the one messing with files, and as such do not deserve any type of punishment whatsoever.

I guess EA is randomly banning. Look at the leaderboard. There are a couple of people level 500+ already, and they are still playing.
On another note, it's so painfully easy to mod the files that this sort of thing was to be expected.

This.

I'm desperately trying to avoid the temptation to now go and mod the files myself so that I can continue playing single player with the DLC squadmate. I was really enjoying the game, and was taking them on every mission because I thought the dialogue written for them and peoples reactions were very well written.

I'll hold off on the temptation for a while though, I'd rather prove my innocence and continue playing legitimately than sink to that level. Would be nice if they could fix it for the weekend though, I left it free especially to play Mass Effect :/

The last co-op match I had on the demo was with two modded asari adepts. I chose to connect to random gold game, and got connected to a very laggy server. One of the Asari had a sabre assault rifle, I think. The other one was using an automatic widow sniper rifle (yes, automatic, imagine the carnage). I left before the game was over.

Does this mean I can potentially get banned for "cheating"?

According to EA policy, I believe so...

Few times it happened to me that I joined a game at round 11. I was in game for about minute or something and it was all over. There would be absolutely no way that I could realize if someone would use altered config files.

I've just searched youtube out of interest.... There are one minute long 'tutorials' on how to hack the game, and use it in multiplayer. This is gonna become an epidemic unless some sort of security is put in place, it will completely undermine the multiplayer.

Was really looking forward the MP after playing so much of it in the demo, now I don't think I will :(

Does PC not have punkbuster or other anti hacker software?

If ME3 has Punkbuster I'll gladly remove it from my system (note: Punkbuster of course, not ME3).

All it had done for me in the past was blocking me from playing BF2 online. And I didn't even do anything!

Terrifying issue. Let's hope this gets rectified. I'm completely thrown off of MP when I'm not with friends now.

This is a serious issue. EA should definitely block hackers from playing the MP part, but banning legitimate users that run into these hackers is unacceptable.

Pretty ridiculous to ban a player over something they really have no control over. Looks like I won't be playing multiplayer after all...

At least I suppose I can get a full refund since I'm still within the seven day cooling off period under UK law. They legally have to refund me under the Distance Selling Regulations. I guess I'll give them till tomorrow to fix it, else I'll just pursue a refund under UK law.

If it's a digital version of the game (i.e. you downloaded it rather than buying a physical copy) you might struggle to get a refund through the DSRs, as a lot of downloadable products are considered 'services' rather than 'goods'. :(

Wish you luck in getting this sorted out though - not fair that you should be punished for someone else's cheating

Am I the only one thats thinking that you should'nt have bought all those spectre packs for all those millions of credits that you got by "accidentally" joining a game that had been modded?

Your alarm bells should've rung the moment you saw that you had gained millions of credits, and you should've contacted bioware/EA to sort it out. Its like finding a wallet on the street with 100.000$ in it and you spending it, and not expecting to get punished for it...

Now it sucks that you cant play your DLC, but getting banned is legit in this situation.

Worse thing is it's not only MP but SP and any other games linked to that account. It's a very serious problem because of that.

Only thing I can say after reading this, it's safest way to play MP with people you know and not to get involved with random matches.

In the opening post, I said that yes, it's fair enough me getting banned, since I was stupid enough to spend the credits. Of course alarm bells went off, but I wanted to get multiplayer finished with as soon as possible and the temptation to spend them was too great. I also thought the actual credits being there was a bigger flag than what items/classes I had, didn't realise that by buying packs I was also levelling up my classes and thusly my N7 level until after I'd already done it once. I'm not sure what my N7 level was in the end but it was HIGH. And it's probably why my account got flagged.

But regardless of that, banning me from accessing single player content? Single player is what mass effect is all about! I bought the game for single player, not some tacked on multiplayer mode meant to appeal to the masses.

It's like going to watch a movie and getting kicked out halfway through because you were on your phone during the trailers.
