Don't know how fast EA are at escalating things to senior personell, but when another game company 'escalated' my problem, it took them four or five months to eventually fix it. It was not as serious as a ban, but still.
I hope they answer you soon. This situation sucks for you.

Does PC not have punkbuster or other anti hacker software?
I recall Origin has Puknbuster (or at least some of its features) build-in. It's funny that Origin is eager to scan your files but the only file it should be scanning - the coalesced.ini, which, AFAIK, is the only way to hack/mod the game - is left alone. EA at its best.
I also fail to understand why it's ridiculously easy to mod that file when it's also used for MP. I don't think it's that complicated to have one for SP (which should be modable IMHO), and another one for MP (which shouldn't). That would solve the issue, but is EA's responsibility so don't count on it

Btw Semtex Jack, PM one of the Bioware guys to tell them about this and hopefully they can sort it out reasonably quickly. Although how you will actually prove that you didn't do anything wrong (as in showing that you didn't exploit anything, especially after spending those credits) will be difficult.

Man, good luck you will have anyone the FAN support if anything really bad it would happen. And do not feel guilty about spending the money, you had a problem that wasn't taken care of from the possibility of them, and you shouldn't flag yourself about it. It is a vulnerability like when hackers attacked SONY, they should think about this kind of issues.
I believe that even if you noticed the problem, and asked for help, nothing would have been changed and you would be banned anyway after a period of time (like I would want to carry to play multy, and I have to buy some more credits stuff, otherwise it wouldn't be possible for me to face GOLD difficulties).

As it is now, I will not be playing MP at all until it's fixed.

All I can say is "Thank god I am on console". Not really interested in the ME3 multiplayer either. Much prefer first person for multiplayer games (loving Syndicate, hating the crashes).

I'm the sort of guy who buys every call of duty game then only plays the campaign. Haven't stepped online except while at a friends house, on his console. I also have fully completed every Assassins Creed game but haven't even TRIED online.
I wouldn't even touch the multiplayer game if they didn't have that freaking galactic readiness rating on the main menu. I'm a completionist and seeing that at 50% prompted me to decide to get it to 100%. I'm really anal when it comes to games and seeing anything but 100% every time I log into the game really bugs me. So I decided to play multiplayer first to get it to 100% and make it easier to get the best endings.
Typical the first time in ten years I try and play a multiplayer addition to a single player game I get bit in the ass ;/

Could we have an official answer on this?

I agree I would DEFINETLY to want to know more on the matter in an official way
I would want to know what would be the best course of action if anything happen to me, because I do not want to get banned for for a product that I cannot use anymore because the design was faulted/flawed.
And I am Lawyer ready for any kind of trouble of this kind, because I really had enough of bad EA support, attitude and politics to how treat their customers (which Bioware it is not affected because it has all my pure love and dedication for their good works and products that they made).
I am not a student, I work and when I want to distract myself with gaming I do it for relax, and having an hassle free gaming it is REALLY important to forget some small daily problems of life. We are playing to save the earth, and a bit our humanity, and when a company it is soul less with their customer it really doesn't merit any support.

The cheats that people are using only work on the PC version as far as I'm aware sulia, It's not something console players need to be scared of.
While Borderlands didn't have servers like this game, I believe the PC cheats eventually made it onto consoles as well.

Will cheating in single player run any risk of getting banned? I've always liked to mess with the files after I've completed my first play through...
You have to mod the exact same file.
The odd thing, however, is that the OP hasn't changed the coalesced file at all. He or she only played with someone else who did. The person hosting the game apparently controls the rewards for completing a match, and based on what the OP is telling, that is enough for EA to ban you. It's ridiculous

I remember in Phantasy Star Online on dreamcast of all things, people used to be overwrite your characters with NPCs and permanently delete your save data by altering data in very simple ways. It happened to me once and I was gutted.
In fact are there any other multiplayer games that store local data? I know Borderlands was one and that was hacked to hell and back.
And the only reason Borderlands and Phantasy Star Online had locally stored data is because they both had the capacity for single player, offline play using the same characters from multiplayer.
Multiplayer and Single Player in Mass Effect are totally separate, the only data offline single player needs from the multiplayer is Galactic Readiness (which is one value), and promoted squad data (which is also one value). Imho the rest of the data should be stored on a server somewhere.
