Wow, when I read the first few lines, I was like "I didn't start MP yet :(" and when I finished, I was like "I didn't start MP yet, yay!!!"

Srsly, thought, I hope you get this resolved soon.

Still bashing my head against the wall here. No reply from EA yet but they're not the best communicators. I get home from work in a couple of hours, will get back on to them then if I still can't play the game.

I'm only going to buy this game for the multiplayer.

I plan to buy it this Saturday.

But if what the OP said is really true, then I guess I'll have to think twice about it now.

I wouldn't worry too much, I doubt they can keep things like this, I'm sure they'll have the common sense to fix it somehow.

This really sucks, and unfortunately the support line and live chat are no help at all. I've never actually had an issue resolved when using the support. Its always "I'm sorry I cannot do that for you".

The thing about it though, is that your friend could mod their host files to do this you get the credits, and say "its not my fault it was the host". Then you mod your host files, your friend gets credits, and he says "its not my fault it was the host" etc...

All in all it shouldn't be the customers (our) problem in the first place. Hope this gets resolved for you.

I am surprised I payed for this ...

The main thing I'm surprised at is that more people aren't coming forward with the same issue. Surely it must have happened to others?

When I played the demo and realized that it was being hosted locally, I was completely shocked. What is this, are we back to the 90s or something? It is pretty cheap for EA/Bioware to run their own servers. And considering most games in the future will have some social/multiplayer aspect to it, they should have built up their network already, like what Blizzard did with Battle.net. It's not like creating the server network would only be used for ME3. It would be used for all future shooter games, MMOs, etc. I connected to some laggy hosts and to some hosts that simply afk, that certainly screws with the user experience. Now there are hackers.

I honestly cannot believe that they can be so stupid. You want to make money from microtransactions but you don't make it secure? An entire generation of gamers are of working age now, which is why many games have trended to be more casual, more story driven, more mature themed. We don't have time to attempt the same level in Mario over and over again 25 times to try to beat it, we are no longer that "hardcore" any more. We do have large sums of money because we are no longer 13 and we have jobs now. I'd gladly pay $100 to play ME3 if everything is smoothly polished. $100 for 50 hours of entertainment is a lot cheaper than watching mediocre movies at the theater at $12 for 2 hours. I'd gladly pay $20 for the multiplayer alone if it was properly hosted and maintained by EA/Bioware, it's a lot cheaper than most DLC content on a cost per hour of entertainment basis. Instead, we product with great promise, but has all these flaws with it. Steve Jobs showed that if you fix up the last 10% of the problems, you can mark up the product 30%, and people will line up to buy it. Blizzard realized that you have to get the game right before you release it, that is why Activision Blizzard is being valued by the stock market at 2x the price of EA. You spend all this money hiring these story writers, professional voice actors, creating this epic game music, making everything so great, and you don't spend that last dollar to host the game on your own server? Come freaking on!

And don't think that the XBox or PS3 is safe either. You are less likely to encounter hackers because it is harder, but it can definitely be hacked if it is stored locally.

Well, maybe you alerting EA helped them ensure other players aren't affected? If that's the case, silver lining for everyone else.

Sure hope just reset your MP account and restore your DLC instead of banning you permanently, seeing you were a bystander.
You would think that they can do that, wouldn't you?

Since I've yet to try the MP, is there a way to tell if the host is cheating and leave before the Ban-hammer hits your head?

Although I agree that this is quite an old thing to do, maintaining servers is not cheap either, is the salary of 4-6 employees more if you consider how many srvers they would need to keep up.

That would cost them over £100.000 a year, plus som other insane costs for bandwith,  and then, if they stop paying, that means we all go offline, at least this way we can play as far as the internet exist :)

(Off-topic) seriously why does the check spelling only work with quick replies? :s)

Hi guys, real quick: cheating is a top item under review/investigation by the live team. We'll have more info soon, but I'll pass along your situation (OP) to them to look at fixing you up. Please note that the intention is NOT to ban people who are "victims" of these kinds of hacks (ie got credits they didn't ask for). If this happens to you, I recommend not spending them :)

Thanks for the update bud, glad to have some kind of update.

I suppose at least there are people getting banned, it shows that you are taking it seriously. Honestly if people get away with cheating multiplayer will just become a joke :/

But how do we just "not" spend them if we keep playing?  I mean, if I fall in a match where the host hacked and I earn the extra credits, then I move onto a clean match with no hacks, I can't spend the credits from the clean match either out of fear that I'll be banned.  This is a really crappy situation.

And how do people know that they have gotten credits they didn't ask for? Are there some kinds of warnings in MP mode?

ME3 is a Single Player game with a non-competetive MP addon. Since when does it matter if anyone would cheat in a single player game so why ban at all?
And credit rewards based hosts settings seems like just a big oversight and should be easily fixed.

If someone went around defiling all your hard work, you'd be pretty irritated too. Bioware/EA are just doing what they believe is right. They made the game, they make the rules for hacking. Deal with it. It's not our place to complain about hackers being punished, but it is our place to stand up for those who are unrighteously punished for someone else's actions. I hold nothing against bioware banning people, but they should ensure that "civilians" are not burned as well as hackers. That's not disagreeing with them, that's encouraging developers to fix the issue they have likely unintentionally made.

Does not Call of Duty also have a multiplayer mode? And a singleplayer mode? When published this game, servers were available at EA for MP mode, were they not? I ask because even if I have played CoD I only ever played the campaign, not the MP mode.

Well, it matters to Bioware because they're flogging credits for actual money

I guess that it is because you can buy Bioware points, if you can cheat you will be less inclined to buy the points and just hack. I am absolutely not interested in using Bioware points for that kind of stuff (especially if random).

I believe that is a more important issue on security level, but I am not an expert in the matter to confirm so, and for this reason I prefer being informed about it.

Thx for the answer. What is "OP"?

Sincerely is gonna be difficult to say "do not spend points", it is like to put a cake on front of you and not be able to eat it.

And I guess that the reason of not spending, it is because there must be some control in check it out spikes of buying products, vs hour of gaming/games actively played/bioware points. So only that you hit this pike you get noticed and banned automatically.

Anyway, I hope that you can fix this quick because I was positively suprised by Multiplayer, and now I am scared of playing it and ruin my Single Player experience.
