I've just started my first play through with her on the ship...

I thought the reports of her voice acting were exaggerated...but holy hell. She's supposed to be reading the news about planets being blow apart and she's reading the lines like that. It's like she isn't even trying. So monotone and dead. Isn't reading news...her career? I mean the real Chobot...how did this possibly get out of the recording booth? She definitely licked more then just PSPs...

Yeah she works for IGN reading news, reviewing games, and she did lick a "PS Vita" recently

...among other things I'm sure. <_<

I just wanna know why she was there. You don't even get a real interview I mean come on. Why not have Emily Wong on the ship instead?

Apparently Emily Wong died from the reapers as according to the marketing stunt they did (apparently on twitter, don't ask me for the details, I was busy trying to get through the week when ME3 came out.)

Emily Wong > Diana Allers for sure, by a long shot. Too bad Bioware killed her off pre-ME3.

Can I ask a solid and honest question? Anyone can answer this so please participate.

Anyways, would you [in your opinion] come to the conclusion that a lot of the "hate" of Jessica Chobot in ME3 is also because of what she stands for? What I mean by that is.....well.... Ms. Chobot has made a career [Just like Olivia Munn did] out of pandering to the notion and even stereotype that all male gamers are horny....nerdy men who are socially awkward around women and have VERY few sexual encounters with attractive women.

So when people see that she is in ME3, it sorts of irks them.

Is there any truth to this?

This is pretty much what bothered me about ME2.  The voice direction, Miranda's ass being a focal point by the camera (TWICE!!), the Eclipse sisters condescending remark about Miranada's wardrobe, Samara's entrance official introduction which is exactly(?) like EDI's introduction in ME3...funny enough I can forgive EDI's intro.  Probably because of all the stuff I imagine Joker saying about it and this is largely influenced by a comment from Seth Green about Tricia Helfer.

Also, I'd like to amend that for me, it wasn't the nerdy bit that bothered me, but the condescension I seemed to interpret from the whole thing.  It went from nude Liara, Ashley, Shepard in ME to incredible amounts of tawdry innuendo in ME2.  Haven't seen the rest of ME3 yet, and I'm having trouble wanting to play it now after spending $80 on it too.

I don't like her because she's one of the worst voice actors in the game.

No, she's -the- worst voice actor in the game.

I can hear her reading the lines off a piece of paper in a recording booth.

I love how dismissive my Shep sounded when telling her that reporters don't belong on a stealth ship. It was almost an "Are you freaking stupid?!" tone. <3

says 99% of the ME fan base. lollll....but even tho very few people know who she is, it is a conflict of interest that a VA works for a video game journal, online or print. But hey, since when have conflicts of interests stopped a project from going thru....

Also, maybe we're missing a simple and base thought process here: Maybe the game developers wanted to work with someone hot. I swear its the reason they decided to use not just Yvonne Strahovski's voice but use her face as well, extra time to have attractive women around. Not to say these devs can't get any but they are programmers, Audio-visual nerds, and techie types. They dont get to hang around people who look like Jessica Chobot often.

Funny thing is using Yvonne isn't a bad thing.  How they used Miranda's body in connection with Yvonne's face was horrible, however.  Yvonne's been acting for some time and had three seasons of Chuck (the third either being underway or finished) when she got the gig, and she's still working.  Jessica Chobot, though I've heard her name from time to time, never struck me as someone memorable.  I remember Olivia Munn more so than her and even she is forgettable.

Fact of the matter is, Bioware could have picked any person they wanted for the gig or been smart and use either Emily Wong or Al-Jilani.  They didn't do either.  It's just another case of something being done where you can't help but scratch your head and wonder what they were thinking.

I have no idea who she is, but I spent the whole game wondering why she was hosting a war news network and not the new season of Taradise.

Me personally I do not think the use of Yvonne's face for Miranda was a bad thing because she is one of the more better known actresses of the series and she is in the same age range they are after for the character and she is definetly not a minger.

On the Jessica Chobot note I do use ign quite a lot so I obviously knew who she was but never thought anything of her (no offence) and do not get me wrong I am happy for her but she should not have had such a role that is meant to be Shepard telling the galaxy why he did what he did. Instead it seems like we have a C grade news reporter talking and interviewing the most famous person in the galaxy at that time.

We hate her because she is by far the worst voice actor in the series. My wife, who has seen me play through the series and gotten as far as ME2 on her save, would just shake her head every time Diana had a line. She was laughably bad and everything about her was just cheesy.

This. She is the only voice actor in any Bioware game I've played that reminded me I was playing a game. Bioware managed to find literally hundreds of superb voice actors for SWTOR. Her being in the game is pretty much an undeniable marketing ploy.

I thought the dialogue about her growing up on a colony was quite nice, but that was almost at the end of the game. Overall I'm indifferent to her, though I don't think all the hate is necessary. She was offered to become a character in a game she enjoys; I bet a lot other people would accept as well.

Like or dislike Chobot, I still would have preferred a professional voice actor. People trained in voice acting getting over looked for someone who is a bit internet famous is a bit silly.

She was a pointless, badly voiced character portrayed by a IGN employee. That's right, BioWare hired an employee from a review site that's supposed to give unbiased reviews of games. Why? Easy. If hiring Chobot is not a desperate attempt at getting in bed with IGN and ensuring a 10/10 score, I don't know what is.

God, I hate EA so much for ruining BioWare. Kotick is a douche and all, but EA... goddamn EA...

I wasn't even aware she was part of IGN until this topic. I only recognized her because she's part of G4. How does she work for both? Seems kinda strange.

Anyway, yeah I agree her character is extremely dull. I won't jump to thinking it was entirely her fault like most everyone else, but that was probably part of it.

I wasn't aware of this connection until I read about it on the wiki.  So what?  It's hardly worse than the allegations about IGN being in the pocket of game publishers, biased, etc. etc.  I take no stand on those accusations other than knowing they exist.

That being said, she's an optional character who you can tell to GTFO if you want.  Honestly, I liked the idea of an "embedded reporter" in general--made the game feel more gritty.  This is probably why her character isn't as developed as the full-fledged squadmates (other than being a major flirt).

I don't hate Diana Allers because to hate a character implies that you have to feel an emotion for her.... which I don't, at all - she is a completely pointless, mundane, useless character that ultimately serves no purpose in this game aside from improving a few war assets (yeah, all 3 interviews with her and most of those upgraded assets really aren't that improved at all), who has no personality or personal story that impacts the plot, and is acted by someone who clearly has no background in voice acting.

Although, the fact that she replaces Emily Wong (and that BW decided to kill Wong off in some stupid Facebook stunt) does ****** me off a bit. <_<

Oh no, I agree, Yvonne Strahovski as a VA and character design was a rare find that fit the character they had written. But as far as this Jessica Chobot person is concerned, I think it was dudes acting like dudes "hey, why dont we get that cute IGN chick to do a voice? trolllololll".....I didn't even notice she had a lot of lines because I chose to not have her on my ship. But now I realize she has a lot more dialogue and it has people up in arms lolll....
