Does she receive any in game mention of her death? Or is her death relegated to the fake twitter feeds Bioware did of the reaper invasion on launch night?

No unfortunately, she was killed off in a series of twitter posts for Alliance News.
It's really annoying that she was killed this way. Emily was an established character who was there at the very beginning. Replacing her with Jessica Chobot's character Diana Allers is pure fan service, and for that reason I wouldn't recruit her.
It would have been so cool to have had Emily on the Normandy, she was there at the beginning.
Oh Bioware, you are so blind now.

She simply isn't around. She just vanishes for no reason whatsoever.
In game or didn't happen so she's not dead... unless you want her to be. Like Gianna Parasini, Sha'ira, Toombs, etc,
