Why do they do this? Because they're control freaks. If you don't like it, don't do business with them because complaining on the internet about it isn't going to help you.

That's my solution -- as long as they force Origin, react irrationally against modding the single-player game, and generally treat their long-time customers like crap, I'm not doing business with them.

Well, I found an easy way to deal with that problem:

When I play SP, I'll use MY coalesced file and go offline with my origin account.
But when I'm gonna play MP, I just switch the files with the original. And go online of course.

With a game restart this is done in 20 second (I checked) and it's save.

And FYI everything works fine offline (all DLCs work. The items and From Ashes).

PS: That game is so freakin awesome!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I dont see how modding the coaleced.bin to let my shepard use the alliance beret instead of a helmet like in ME2 is cheating

I wish I had seen this sooner. I enjoy MP, I hope I don't get banned for wanting to take the helmets off my character in SP.

I hope not, because tweaking the coalesced file was literally the only way that Mass Effect 2 was playable on PC since the controls were completely out of whack.

If we are forced to fix the game through modding, they shouldn't be punishing us for fixing it for them.

Apparently they have gone with a half assed approach to multiplayer if altering your SP files affects MP gameplay. It is stupid if they ban you for altering something with the intention of changing your single player experience. That is literally one of the STUPIDEST things I've ever heard about in the history of gaming.

EA

that just about sums that up....

This was my concern when the MP cram-on was first announced, and again when forced Origin was announced.

EA comes across as being pretty hostile to modding to begin with.

Without modding, replay value goes way down, to the point that the game isn't worth the initial purchase price.

That's exactly the point. They don't want you to replay or extand the life of the game. They want you to finish and then buy the next game which in EA's case is normally the same game with maybe better graphics and the next years number on it. They cut service to old games pretty quickly to force people to buy the next installment, the last thing they want is some mod coming along and giving you more value for money.

A lot of people are modding the file to change the FoV or for cosmetic reasons without realising they might be banned for it, they aren't cheating.

Any hard evidence that tweaking SP will get MP banned? I'm taking precautions now but it may be too late. And yeah, I'm not cheating, cosmetic changes.

I wonder if you add armor mods to SP ME3 will you be banned? I had so many armor mods in ME2 (Asari Spectre Armor, Asari commando armor, Aria outfit, head gear, some ME1 armors too) that I like to add to ME3 tho, continue my Shepard story. Anyone trying to add new armors or should we wait if bioware/ea make a dlc?

Wow if this is true never gonna spend another $60+ on a EA product again. I only make changes to make the game look better - ie. improve consolized low resolution textures, shadows, ect. I play on PC so I should have the best looking game for it. If this gets me banned, or even gets the DLC I paid for, then no more money to support them.

I've always wondered, if you buy the game and the DLC, why couldn't you pirate it? Then you don't have to worry about origin, about internet connections and authentications, about inserting CD's ect. You did pay them for everything, so... Simple logic.

You can use Widescreen Fixer to change your fov without touching the .bin file. It works well with cut scene (it's adaptative) and it automatically turned itself off in MP.

I always do changes to the pistols because well... a pistol shouldn't have more recoil than a shotgun.

Now that Origin is required to play ME3 I was wondering something:

Do we get banned if we play that game with a tweak coalesced file?

Do we need to stay offline then?

Thanks for your responses.

I think yourgood to go

I've had no issues playing multiplayer with my edited coalesced. The only problem really is that because I changed some of the hotkeys to run console commands instead of items off my hotkey bar, those buttons now do nothing in multiplayer.

If you look, most of multiplayer (including the weapons) is in its own separate part of the coalesced. I'd suggest just not editing it. However, I have played part of a few multiplayer games where it seemed the hosts were using edited coalesced's |= Like on one server, all enemies had 1 hitpoint.

I finally bit the bullet and played the MP with a modded coalesced.bin. I changed the FOV and some key bindings. So far, I have not been banned. Haven't been able to play Mass Effect 3 today though to see if I can still get online.

I'm close to use a modded .bin too! I can't stand the default FOV in MP. ME 3 don't have an anticheat like PB or VAC, I don't think they monitoring our config files. The live team is probably focus on the leaderboard and credits abuse.

Anyway do you know how to separate sprint from cover/use in the coalesced.bin?

Simple solution. Don't give EA your money.

If they want to encourage people to pirate games while crying about piracy then that's their choice.

**** origin is my opinion.

I was hoping to alter the FoV to something resembling normal, but I don't think its worth the risk of getting banned for altering the *.bin file.
Unfortunately, that file also holds all of the MP information as well, so if they do even a simple CRC check on the file, they may not care what actual alterations were done, even if it was as simple as changing the camera angle to something more realistic that doesn't cause headaches.

There no ban for FOV atm. It's a speculation that we have.

Chris Priestly wrote...

Oh, and one more thing.

I see people talking about activating Javik and the From Ashes DLC without actually paying for it and how it is your right because it is on disc and yadda yadda yadda. We do not recommend you do this. We don't recommend it because without purchasing and activating the DLC using him will break the dialogs and cutscenes you encounter. This will bork your story. This likely won't stop people from trying, but please make a save before you start so you can revert your game to the save point and replay.

{smilie}

In this post (about the dlc) he don't recommended to do this (altering the.bin to unlock Javik) but he's not prohibited it. Changing your fov is not that different.

SPRINT : ( Name="YOUR BUTTON", Command="StormOn | OnRelease StormOff")
DODGE/ROLL : ( Name="YOUR BUTTON", Command="Exclusive PressAction | TapAction" )
COVER : ( Name="YOUR BUTTON", Command="TapAction")

This doesn't completely separate the actions, but it helps.

Technically, it is! They used to call stuff like that the developers left in cheat codes for a reason. The difference was we understood that in a single player "cheating" didn't harm anybody and was therefore acceptable if that was the experience the player wanted.
